How do you know what position the counter dial should be? Does the "0" have to be in a specific location?

Thanks to your videos I gave a second life to one good old K1000. As of now, though, the counter is not advancing when taking pictures. Have you encountered this issue before? If so.. Any tips? Great channel, I love your work

The counter engagement pawl and free movement of the counter dial itself can be checked.

Can you make a video on how to repair the light meter on the K1000?

Thank you for the suggestion.

I'm kind of curious about that myself. The light meter in my Pentax k1000 is way off. On a positive note it's fully mechanical camera and you can just use Sunny 16 or light meter app.

Hello I was wondering if there was a way to remove the focusing screen in the area around the camera's mount. I just got a spotmatic f and k1000, and both have had their counter retaining screws snapped.

Great video- What kind of screwdriver did you use to remove the counter dial cover. Tip width? Or type/#?

When Taking pictures my Exposure counter doesn't count, so do I have to follow the same process as you did ?

What size is the counter cover set screws? Can’t find a screwdriver small enough to remove them.

I'm sure you have answered this before, but where did you get that excellent spanner wrench? I have a cheap one that I absolutely hate and really need something better.
@FixOldCameras5 жыл бұрын
It is no longer available - that beautiful jewel is one of three that have been in service for over 40 years. It takes the SP-4 spanner blades that are still available. A good quality unit based on the same design is manufactured in Japan, however, it seems it too is presently unavailable.

Hi, trying to remove the counter dial on my K1000, but the retaining ring/spanner nut is stuck and can't remove it. Do you have any tips on how i can proceed?

Apply some heat with the tip of soldering iron for a couple of minutes. Be aware of the plastic parts. Of course contact with plastic and a hot soldering iron will not be pretty.

I have one of these. The film advance lever works but it’s just won’t snap back when i advance to next frame. It just stays extended. I have to push it back to advance the next shot. Do you happen to know what might be the problem?
@FixOldCameras4 жыл бұрын
Check around the advance lever for clearance of the counter dial cover. Minor impact can cause it to rub. Top cover screw partially under the advance lever can work loose and rub. Gunked up around the advance lever so it no longer moves freely. Finally that top cover might have to come off and the upper advance mechanism will have to be inspect, with the likely culprit at this point being a broken or disconnected advance lever return spring. Warning... the spring is a long coil and can release and tangle in a blink.

Hello I have a pentax k1000 when I push the button to take a picture it won't click I have to use a pik to push in the hole to get it to work any ideas?
@FixOldCameras5 жыл бұрын
Sounds like the shutter mechanism itself is in good working order, but the button is stuck because of a residual substance that has dried and frozen the button. Try seeping some isopropyl alcohol around the button where it slides through the button housing.

Thank you for the additional comments and it is good to hear of your successful repair. Off to Portugal, sounds like too much fun and keep'em going.
