Well, my fix was that my monitor's VGA cable was broken. Replaced it and my screen is fine.

@@Zyrex_10 Yes, it is 100% safe, at first after you uninstall your driver your monitor(s) will turn black for a second then it will stay the same as it was. After you restart it, it's perfectly fine and your drivers are there already. Hope this helped Draster.

Try turn off pc. Unplug display port/HDMI cable. Turn on PC and plug cables back in. worked for me.

KTBeat HDMI cable is something you use to connect you're pc to a screen. Basically a video/audio cord. Example my HDMI cord is connected from my laptop to my TV.

Only updated my computer the other day because windows literally forced me to, so as someone who isn't very computer literate I was not impressed with the lack of resolution options available to me originally, I watched a couple of other videos, read a couple of articles and did some trial and error before I found this. After the recent Win 10 update, my system no longer has the slider or Advanced settings. It only has 2 resolution settings (1024 x 768 & 800 x 600). I tried the UNINSTALL & UPDATE methods. Neither worked. I uninstall the driver & it reinstalls as soon as I reboot. My laptop says I have the most updated driver. I got tired of wasting time on this & just did a System Restore to revert the computer back to before the Windows 10 update. Problem solved! Don't know how long it'll last, but it's working for now.

Something worth checking: Change the display mode of the monitor that you are using. This can be done by changing the setting on the monitor by physically pressing the buttons on the monitor and changing the setting for your display port.

return to windows 7, when apps will stop supporting it, just upgrade to windows 8.1, it shouldn't have windows 10 problems, from my experience, it is very good, if you hate start menu, just get classic shell or open shell (open shell is open source)

nothing worked for me but i managed to fix it just minutes ago. when I went to the driver properties i noticed the "roll back" option was grayed out but I thought this was normal. anyway I went to recovery and I chose the option that let you go back to the previous build of windows 10. again that didn't fix a thing but when I went to the driver properties, the " roll back" option wasn't grayed out this time and I can click on it so I did it and this fixed my screen resolution issue. hope this will help you too cus I was this close to give up.

This actually worked on my 1080p TV. The computer kept treating it as a 540p Display. I didn't know uninstalling my Intel video driver would fix the issue. This solved my problem.

I just built my first pc, and everything eventually went in smoothly, and it look all fine, except the bios freezes like crazy...no idea why but it's been linked apparently in the past to smart tv's and msi...I dunno. My question today is why thumbnails look crap, on youtube for example, the monitor is registering 8bit depth, least it was until I checked for monitor updates, not it's changed to 12. The graphics card is freshly updated. B450gaming pro carbon ac, 2700x, msi rx590 8g oc, ryzen 2700x, monitor is smart tv, but I don't recall the quality being poor like this is now on my old pc...I am confused,.

Updating the display driver works if the display driver has been corrupted. However, some people may need to do the opposite by clicking roll back the driver to an earlier version. I have an ATI Radeon HD 4200 driver and a screen with 1920 x 1080 resolution. Recently the display stopped using the full width and height of my screen. When I checked the display settings I noticed the list was not greyed out, rather it was missing the 1920 x 1080 setting in the list. I tried updating but it was already up-to-date. Then I realized the lastest update had been only recently, so I click roll back. It went back to a driver version from two years ago and now my screen is back to normal and settings show a 1920 x 1080 resolution. While your solution didn't work for me, it got me on the right track, and helped me to resolve the problem. Thanks.

1- In Windows 10 search (Cortana) type "Device Manager" and press enter. The Device Manager should open. 2- Click on the arrow next to "Display Adapters". It should then show on the next line what Display Adapter you have. 3- Double click on the name of your Display Adapter. A dialog box with four tabs (General, Driver, Details, & Events) should show up. 4- Click on the "Driver" tab. On the driver tab that comes up take note of the driver date. Also on the driver tab you should see five buttons in a vertical column to the left, and the middle one should say "Roll Back Driver." 5- Click the "Roll Back Driver" button. Click any following "yes" "confirm" or "ok" buttons to proceed. When the roll back is finished you should now see an earlier driver date. 6- Once the rollback is finished shut down the computer, and start it again.

after you reinstall your drivers you're probably going to have to go back into nvidia control panel, or windows display properties, and set up multiple displays again. you uninstalled the drivers for whatever video source you had, so you have to set everything up again.

So I updated my PC and I set the update to go on over night. The update changed my PC to 1024 x 768, now the 1024 x 768 is my recommended resolution for some reason. The update will only let me select "800 x 600", "1024 x 768" and "1152 x 864". When before the update I was able to select "1900 x1080" and lower. Anyone know a fix?

This May be too obvious, but.. If your PC came with a driver CD/DVD, go to adapter settings and update driver. Choose select location and select the folder that the DVD/CD creates, and push next. Then, restart pc after it says it found one. It should load into 1920x1080

It did worked on my PC. Just go for search automatically for updated driver software. It may take a while. But after downloading it will automatically update your display resolution. Or you can change it too.

For all who still cannot find the solution, I just solved it mine like so Desktop, right click, display settings, advanced display settings, adapter properties, "monitor" tab, uncheck "hide modes that this monitor cannot display", go back to "Adapter" tab, click "List all modes" button and choose the resolution you want (at least close to it), at the end, click "Ok" to everything and then let your monitor fit the screen (automatically or manually if auto doesn't do the trick)
