One thing I dislike with most KZbinrs is I will follow a particular channel in the beginning or shortly thereafter and the channel is all strictly car content no other crap added or people trying to be funny/actor's or whatever it is then the channel grows and it seems like they get away from just pure car content assuming solely just to get more subscribers and more views cuz that's how they make their money which is understandable however that is just one of the many reasons I really enjoy these videos straight to the point extremely informational I never worry about getting inaccurate or miss information this guy is literally and EJ King 👍

dont use synthetic oil for break in. use conventional dinosaur oil or break-in oil (high ZDDP content). You can download the subaru factory service manual online with a quick google search. The FSM details engine assembly step by step. get an accurate torque wrench and feeler gauges. follow FSM assembly instructions when torqueing head bolts and installing cams/ cam caps. Measure and set valve lash. Use assembly lube on cams and buckets. Use a good RTV or threebond to seal valve covers per OEM instructions. if you want even more reliability get the subaru JDM 12mm oil pump, AOS, IAG/KillerB pan/ windage tray/ and pick-up.

Those rubber flaps kind of scare me.. engineering aside, I can attest to oiling issues personally on track this summer. Even with the Killer B pan kit with a Crawford AOS, I did suffer some oil heading into my valve covers while sustaining lateral G's. One another component that was recommended from Killer B is the Oil Control Valve. Have you guys used the OCV? Would be curious to see a video on it! Great video Mike, love the Subaru stuff you guys have CheeRS!🤙
@motoiq3 жыл бұрын
What's good about the rubber flaps is they leak a lot less than trap doors. I just had a conversation with Dave Coleman about this a couple of days ago and he calculated that the leakage associated with your typical metal trap door was the same as a 2" hole! The rubber flaps are made out of a fluoroelastomer which is pretty heat and oil resistant. The Killer B guys said the oil control valve comes into play if you can pull more than 1.2 g's steady state which is slicks and aero territory. I would sort of think dry sump at this time. I wanted to run the oil control valve on my own car but the KB guys said I would not need it.
@dannyve49823 жыл бұрын
@@motoiq thanks for the reply! I find it surprising that Killer B suggested that I get the OCV and your case no. I had some back and forth emails with a lad named Nick from KB. To be fair, I went back to the shop which installed my pan at the time and there was 500ml too much, so perhaps that was the cause also. I don't log telemetry, however, I doubt I'm pulling anything near 1.2 as my Subaru is relatively stock suspension wise. Anyway, I guess I'll install it anyway for piece of mind! Thanks Mike
@esteve723 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I wouldn't worry about those rubber flaps failing. My old E30 M3 had rubber flaps in the oil pan from the factory and they were still like new after many years.

@@motoiq Thanks you guys! Here's what I did. Stock updated style OEM EJ25 pan, with the different profile, that came new from A-zon. Killer-B "Ultra" pick up, new gasket, new tube of sealant, full oil change and filters etc. Old pan came off in my fingers, it was so loose, explaining all the oil leaks. New pan, and pick up went on fine. Had to drop headers and while they were off, filed all the flanges flat(er) to get rid of some of the warping that they'd taken on. Had the car up on stands, UN-bolted engine mounts just enough to get clearance to last four pan bolts, in the back, and 'voila'....done. Also added new windage tray since I was going to be in there anyhow. Side play on the rods seemed OK, w/i spec. Old pan didn't have crazy sludge or shavings...so good news there, but I was petrified of that old type pick up. Car seems much happier now, and runs quieter.

I have a question: why did you guys choose IAG’s setup for the oil pan, baffle, pickup compared to KillerB’s setup? Not to criticize IAG, but KillerB’s products have been out longer on the market and have been used by many users. I feel like IAG is a little late to the game, though they do offer a very competitive price with the oil combo compared to KillerB’s. Im worried about those rubber flaps in the oil pan being a failure point where it could somehow detach and restrict the oil flow. It seems like it adds to more failure points that could happen within the oiling system. The Cosworth oil baffle has a similar setup with the rubber flaps, and if I remember correctly, a user somewhere on the forums had an issue where some of the rubber flaps had more wear than the others in the baffle. He was afraid that the flaps would detach sooner or later so he removed the Cosworth baffle. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Love the content you guys offer!
@motoiq3 жыл бұрын
We are featuring the Killer B pan in an upcoming video. We like both pans and the rubber flaps are proven in other pans and work better at controlling the oil than metal trap doors. The rubber is a Fluro elastomer and is really oil and heat resistant.
@beaves96592 жыл бұрын
the killer B has too many flaws. I had my heart set on one last year when I had to rip the 207 out of my GF8 but when you look at the benefits of the IAG sump over the Killer B i think it sells itself. O-ring groove to seal it against the block (not RTV crap) plus a threaded hole ready for an oil temp probe. Cooling fins and the sump plug on the bottom face, I don't see how the Killer B has any advantages over the IAG sump. And this is coming from someone who was all in on the Killer B until I looked into it harder.
@beaves96592 жыл бұрын

I wouldn’t say they have oiling issues and or catastrophic oil system failures sumps could be better but they work same for pickups i believe it was only early ej25 in the 2005 wrx and sti Further more in my experience the oil catch can filling up is due to using the nome baffled breathers which were only intended for pcv system But I do agree with everything you said on how much better iag and killer b pickups and sumps are

The pick ups break in normal street driving on stock cars, and in track use or over 7500 rpm, oil system failures and bearing damage is common mostly due to the pickup sucking air. Oil pump capacity is fine.

@@motoiq forgot to mention I’m from Australia we get Japanese spec motors not usdm so “forged pistons” however still weak yes and I do believe pickup issues were specific to usdm ej257s but lucky for us we don’t see those types of issues to much and the sump there’s 2004-2005 ej207 sumps of the sti that are heavily baffeld already but not all so I stand corrected and was more refuting to what we have here which is mostly stis in Japanese spec

Is this IAG one better than the killer B pickup/pan/baffle
@motoiq3 жыл бұрын
They are both excellent but in the video we give the reasons why we like this combo.

Does this eliminate blow by?
@motoiq2 жыл бұрын
Controls it, blowby is from the piston rings.
