Fix wireless keyless garage door opener remote keypad - poor battery connection on Liftmaster 376LM

Assuming your batteries are ok, if your wireless, keyless garage door opener keypad is not working properly, it might be caused by a poor 9V battery connection. Additionally, you may have worn out the actual keypad buttons for your code so just change your code numbers to avoid those worn buttons. 9V battery connector is faulty and not making good electrical contact. Each battery post is made of two pieces swaged together. Over time, the swage corrodes and/or relaxes thereby creating a poor connection.

This saved me $50 and a trip to the Home Depot! Thank you so much! Glad I watched ahead to see that I didn't need to break open the circuit board! Your video was so clear to see and follow - I wish others could be so well done! Two taps to the negative battery connector and it's working again!!!

That worked perfectly!! I would never have guessed that the terminals could be the problem since, like yours, my 10 year old opener was still beautiful with no corrosion or anything. Looked like new, but that connection was the key! I will remember that for other 9v terminals. Thanks for posting!

Thanks for the video! My issue was the Enter key was intermittent and not making good contact. You are correct taking this apart is a bear I used an X-Acto blade and carefully was able to get 3/4 of it to remove. Enough of it to bend it and remove the circuitboard and keypad. I then was able to remove the circuit board give a couple of quick swipes with some fine steel wool across the contacts and clean them with denatured alcohol and Q-tips. Quite a bit of black stuff came off of these contacts so I think this helped very much. Did the same on the keypad rubber piece as well. Put it back together and it worked like a champ. They definitely make this weather sealed it is not a snap in clam shell type of assembly. If you’re careful you can take it apart but it takes some patience. Thanks again for confirming that it is glued together!!

Oh my goodness. I can't believe the poor battery connection was the reason for the malfunction. I just gave one hammering to the negative connector, and now my keypad is working again. I used to have intermittent backlight even after changing a battery. Clearly, you solved my issue - thanks.

Will be doing this to my remote keypad, which has been flaky for a while. In addition to looking at the riveted connections on the battery terminals, I will be cleaning them with electrical contact cleaner, and coat with dielectric grease to hopefully eliminate future degradation of these contectsn.

How exactly did you break the bond to get to the keypad? Razor knife? I have this unit but continuity from battery is fine. I think it has to be the contacts between the pad and the board. I tried shooting in electronic cleaner but that didn’t work, which I kind of about expected.
@YuDaMan

have you tried changing the code? The keypad contacts are known to wear. Yes, razor blade and/or fine upholstery tool (I personally like grapefruit knife ... thin and strong ... SERIOUSLY put on thick gloves so you don't accidentally slice your finger open) .... I also try to warm up the plastic with my heat gun. How about a LIKE and a subscription? THANKS!

Thx. I just could not break into it to save myself. Tried a hammer and razor knife as well as upholstery blade. Strange as my unit looks just like yours albeit craftsman (made by Chamberlain of course). But I did find some digits on the pad that must not be as worn so we have a new code now for the time being.

thumbs down for me you never told us what good or bad numbers are on the volt meter so we can know what is a good or bad range, would have taken you 2 seconds to give proper direction on that. Thumbs down.
@YuDaMan
@YuDaMan 3 жыл бұрын
my video is not about how to use a multi-meter. You need to learn about open circuit and closed circuit resistance. There is no absolute number. It's either near zero for closed and something a lot more than that, like infinity for open. The video is obviously not suited for your level of expertise. It has worked for infinitely more people than not. It did not work for you because of you, not the video. You can do the recommended fix (the whole point of the video ... meter is just to demonstrate and prove poor connection) without a meter. Have a nice day.
