AMAZING. I said no way this can work. Saw three dark solder connections under the relay. Hit them all with a little solder, put it back together, and the light came on as you said this was a great sign. I'm guessing a professional would have charged a fortune and replaced with parts. As the others have said "YOU THE MAN!"

Was not looking forward to buying and installing a new garage door opener. Thankfully I came across this video. Fix took all of five minutes. Took longer to cleanup.

Like others, I got lucky and found this video in an attempt to resuscitate my 27 year old lift master garage door opener. I had the exact same issue. Performed the exact same 5 minute fix. Had the exact same success!!! Thanks so much for posting this video!!!

I had the exact same problem. Tried to set up a new garage door remote, when I pressed the learn button, the entire thing popped and I saw a spark go off. Took it apart and the exact same problem had occurred. Never soldered anything in my life, but was an easy fix after watching a how-to video. Put it back together and it works completely fine again. You sir, are the MAN!!!!! Saved me quite a lot of money. Thank you for this video.

Thanks a bunch! Just fixed my Craftsman 1/2 HP opener (late 90s vintage) by fixing the board as you show here. My failed joint turned out to be the same exact one as yours. Your video made it easy after finding the OP that never really discusses disassembly as you do here. Between the 2 of you you've saved people a lot of money and kept these openers out of the landfills where they would have ended up. So thanks a million Chief! For others tackling this, after you remove the end plate where the board is attached, it you take then take off the metal enclosure that covers the motor, etc., is is much easier to remove and to reinstall the header connector without fumbling around to get it aligned, etc. There isn't much service length on those wires as you can see from the video so it's easier to have the whole bottom of the opener open to get your hand in there and to see what you are doing.

I went through several diagnostics; RPM sensor resistance, direct charge to motor, transformer check and this one worked. 8 month old unit and found a bad solder on the MoBo (logic board). This was the fix. Thank you for video!

My 1/3 HP Liftmaster failed and displayed the same symptoms: relays click, yellow LED flash 5x. My unit had EXACTLY the same fault - same relay, same pin, but more of the soldering pad on the back of the PCB was burned away in my case. After cleaning the area, I resoldered the joint, ensuring the solder flowed from the back to the front of the PCB. The repair made good contact between the pin and the run. I put the unit back together and it is operational once again. Thanks for the video!

Sir, you are THE MAN!! Came home and my garage door did exactly what yours did in the video. I took it apart and found the same thing you talked about. The solder was broke in the one you said it normally breaks on. So needles to say you saved me a lot of time and money. Took about 10 minutes and the job was done and the door opens and closes like it should. So again.... thank you!

Wow, thanks for the great video and what to look for. I have a 2006 Lift Master which is totally different and much newer, but thn yours but I had the same conditions so I took the two circuit boards out and looked for the relays...Found one relay terminal that the solder had come loose so I re-soldered re-assembled and it works like new! Saved at least $125 on a new board and way more if I replaced the whole unit, and more again if I called a garage door company. Thank you! Don (Kathy's husband)

Any idea if the diagnostic light does nothing? The door opener next to the actual door is rapidly flashing, sensor are working and aligned correctly, no humming from motor, literally nothing happens when I try to open with the remote or the door opener next to the garage door
@kikcodog Жыл бұрын
I know this is late but usually if the opener pad/switch is rapidly flashing that means you engaged the security lock which prevents any remotes or the pad from opening the door. If you look closely one of the 3 buttons on the wired pad should have a lock symbol. Press and hold that for a second or so and it should stop flashing and work again.
@mattblythe5044 Жыл бұрын
@@kikcodog thanks for the reply, I’ve tried that several times still nothing. There is also a lock button on the remote, tried hitting that no luck. Could bad/dead batteries in the remote cause this?
