After mixing the epoxy spread it on a cookie pan to help keep it cool. Start out keeping it in the refrigerator so it starts out cold. If you use a cup keep it e a bucket of ice water. Sunshine will also make it kick fast

thx for the tips Mark...i like the cookie sheet idea for sure! we ran 2 air conditioners in the boat to keep the temps a bit cooler to delay the kick! They definitley helped a ton. But that only works when we're glassing inside.

One of my favorite sailing channels (Freerange sailing - now Freerange Homesteading) recently became a homesteader channel. So many people say you should wipe down with acetone but this only weakens the bond as acetone eats epoxy. It is far better to just vac the surface using a round brush head on the vac, then glue or glass with epoxy. It is then free of harmful contamination, any super fine dust remnants will just be absorbed into the resin..

I can see this working great for fine dust, but what about the slippery stuff like oils? But thanks for the. Advice, I’ll skip the acetone when I know there’s only dust.

@@david_shih Yes if you have an oily or dirty surface then mentholated spirits (cleaning alcohol) can be used as it vapes off with no residue left. (I use it to clean roller frames, coving tools etc) the only thing I clean with acetone is consolidating rollers, which I soak over night, then rinse in alcohol. Keep going with the rebuild, it will end up stronger than when it came out of the factory. Cheers Rustie.

Hey David a sugestión when you mixing epoxy and you want to extend the life for the application period put the bowl in the freezer for 30 min and get a bigger bowl put ice up to half of it and water mixed and put the bowl of the epoxy and mixed that will extend 10-15 more in addition you can low the part A and part B before using it to 55 to 60 degrees using ice and water the same way that with the bowl and that will give you a better timing in the application. Good luck

Oooh I used a/c's to cool the cabins and in turn the epoxy, but never though of using an ice bowl. That would really help outside! I'll have to try that next time to prevent burning it again.
