Oh man! You need to look up casting cannons, pully rigs and long cast reels to maximize distance in the surf! It's big down under in nz

All great casters for sure! Big Lou still attends tournaments, but not S often as in years past. There will be several casters w/ good numbers & this event usually draws a good crowd of guys. I’m hoping to hit 800 at this year’s JVC. This is a family friendly event where everyone is welcome. Show up w/ whatever gear you have & we’ll get you started.

When you say "in the 800s", do you mean they can cast 800 yards from the shore?

Some good info here, some not so accurate. The good - Push (punch)/ Pull. This is a cornerstone to good casting. The not so good - (1) Pendulum - The described cast is NOT a true pendulum cast. While the sinker does swing back and forth in a pendulum motion, a true pendulum cast has 3 distinct elements. 1) - outswing, 2) - inswing and 3) the powerstroke. What he is demonstrating is (kinda) like a modified version of a hatteras cast. (2) Increasing the weight to 8oz for more distance. 8oz is a half-pound of lead. That is a load. I am one of those NC 8nbait guys and i can tell you without reservation that 8 oz WILL NOT fly as far as something more manageable like 4-5 oz. (3) Drones. While they will work, drones are illegal on the National Seashore of NC and many other places. I appreciate the enthusiasm and using the platform to promote surf fishing, but I'd tweak the content a little. Big tip - LOOK UP 45 degrees when casting.

🎣 I see you have improved your casting from your previous casting video,! ... 😊 I agree with comment by Tommy Farmer, and some others. The UK and our SA casters are very good at casting. To improve casting, don't snap start the cast, that is when a trace snap off and or a broken rod tip can happen,! ... Start the cast Suitably fast and Increase the speed up to the release point. The speed does it, to increase distance. Imagine a point between both hands holding the rod, - that is the axle or pivoting point in pushing forward and pulling the rod down. Both hands Must work together, ... Do not "flick" at end of cast, and keep rod tip up about 45° as they say. I don't think the "whip" explanation is a good description. Lowering the rod before cast is complete won't help in distance. Can move one foot forward but keep both feet on sand or ground before casting is completed. Lifting a foot too high up and or leaning too far forward is not a good base and you won't get extra distance! The stance is the basis for good casting, 🎣

Type of rig also helps with distance and the delta in distance can be seen more as weight goes up. 8 and bait on a long leader will helicopter versus more compact rig with breakaway brand setup clips

#1 before doing a power cast should be to tighten down the drag so there won’t be any line slippage! If that line slips before letting go of the line it will slice your finger!

You have to use the shock leader relevant to the size of weight your casting. Never try this type of cast or anything similar to it without a shock leader, it's very dangerous. FYI, I use 30 lb. braid and 100lb to 120lb braid for a shock leader.

Tip #6 use some kind of finger protection. I prefer leather work gloves. Watching you cast that 8oz you were holding back because you were probably burning your finger. Get a glove and let it rip!
@HeySkipper
@HeySkipper 3 ай бұрын

That burn is very easy to avoid without a glove. If it burns, you probably are holding the line too far up the rod .
