I was following your part one video for a few weeks and bought your program last week. I hit parallel goblet squats without snapping this morning. Theres definitely something still off in my left leg, It's hard to balance on some of the single leg poses in your program compared to no instability with my right leg but it's getting better. 3 doctors over the years had never heard of this and all told me I'd need surgery but finding the right youtube video is what i really needed 😅 thank you!

I’ve had this problem for about 4 years now. I tried what you mentioned to do in part one to no avail (directly, at least), but I have finally figured out what my specific problem was. To be more specific, I’ve had the snapping happening in the short head of the biceps femoris at the occurrence of butt wink whenever squatting (pretty much exactly like it was occurring in part 1). I was noticing that sometimes when seated, having my feet wider than my hips, and trying to open up (abduct) my hips while maintaining good posture, that my glutes would start to cramp up. After that, I tried to replicate this activation while standing and walking and noticed that this would immediately cause my quads to start cramping up if I tried to use them in any way (to lock out the knee, for instance). Naturally, I tried to squat while also having this glute medius activation and discovered that the snap wouldn’t happen and that I could squat my butt to the floor without any issues (although it is difficult to do so because I am not used to the movement) except for a glute cramp similar to the feeling from the seated exercise mentioned earlier when completely sitting into the squat. I presume this will go away once the glutes are strengthened. In short, I discovered that through proper activation of the hip abductors (glute medius, etc) while squatting, that the snapping stops entirely. I do not mean this to contradict your practice, rather to help supplement it. I have been doing what you mentioned in part 1 (increasing calf flexibility, core strength, and the hamstring stretch) for a few months now and finally prevailed with this last step. Thank you for this 3-part series. It has helped me a lot and I hope this information further helps you with your practice and any future viewers.

Hi. I am glad that you found a solution. How do you define "proper activation of the hip abductors"? Do you do something special while squatting or do you do other specific exercises? If so could you share them?

I am having the same issue as the first guy on part 2. Every time I walk or squad a certain position my right knee snaps. I got an mri because I thought my tendon had torn. Fortunately, there weren’t any signs of a tear, just a mild patellar tendinitis.

@@DeskJockeyPhysio by “doing great” and “squatting to depth” do you mean that there is no longer snapping or that is was slightly decreased

Hey Mitch. I dislocated my left knee cap 4 years ago and ever since I’ve had this sort of snap but it’s more central and on the back. It isn’t visible though. Do you think this is snapping hamstring or could it be something else? Thanks a lot.
@DeskJockeyPhysio Жыл бұрын
Good question. If you've found that it's coordinated to the knee dislocation in terms of time-line it's likely not the hamstring and more of an anterior structure. Unfortunately I can't say much more than that without getting eyes on it. I'd recommend checking in with your physiotherapist or family doc. We do offer virtual consults as well if needed (check out the video description for more details on that front). Cheers

Hi Mitch, finding your videos on this issue has been very helpful. I'm 20 right now and had this clicking on the outside of my knee since early teen years. It has really limited my leg workouts especially squat strength. Should I keep doing above parallel squats even with heavy weight until I improve the issue? Even when trying to go above parallel, sometimes I tend to go lower when the weight is heavy. Thank you very much for putting this information out.

My snapping happens in the inside of my knee (between my legs). It only snaps when do it intentionally. So does this apply to me? Also does this cause soreness in the calves, because my left calf is mildly painfully, like everyday. Thanks in advance for any responses!

Hello Mitch, thanks for the vids! I've had this pain on my left knee for the past 5 years (17 yo). The doctors said it will go away because I am growing, I've been 5'8 ever since haha. I started doing muay thai and I noticed the snapping is getting worst as well as some gringing and popping/locking. Any advice for someone who is doing combat sports and has this problem. I'm also flat footed and I notice my ankle roles in. I have been doing bullet proof knee and ankle exercises. My mobility has increase but the snapping on the side of my knee never goes away.
