Best to use wax-free shellac as a barrier coat; many finishes that contain polyurethane have adhesion issues with waxy shellac.

Why don't you push on your sander? Random orbital sander for example. I put some pressure (not a lot) when I sand.

Just the weight of the sander and your hand is fine. More just adds load to the motor, wears the pad, and makes it harder for the to evacuate. Sand paper is sharp, just on a small level. Sharp things don’t need pressure, they just need to move. If you’ve gotta force it, it’s dull. Just like a kitchen knife.

Nice content Caleb. Yes tell me your secrets on spray finishes - I am about to embark on a project with my wife and I don't want to spend too much time on the finish.
