FIXED P1391 Camshaft Postion Sensor Jeep XJ 4.0 L

I fixed the P1391 check engine code by replacing camshaft position sensor. This is a quick simple job.

How did you know it was the Camshaft sensor, and not the crankshaft sensor? I'm asking because I have the same code and an intermittent no spark situation on a 99 Jeep XJ.

Based on the symptoms I was having and the reading of forums seemed to all point to that. I wasn't 100% sure it would fix it but seemed like the most likely and easiest/cheapest place to start.

Is the replacement of the Camshaft Synchronizer a critical replacement with the sensor?

yes it will cause the engine to not run properly if at all. may leave you stranded somewhere if you don't fix it. thanks for watching keep me posted

I have a 96 Cherokee with the 4.0 and i get that P1391 code only when I use the passing gear and get the RPMs up. It comes on every time i run it hard. Never when i drive it gently lol. I clear the code and it comes back when I'm hard on it. Runs fine other than a slight rough idle now and then. Could this be a cam or crank sensor issue?

@@WinModel88 So you symptoms sound a little different even though it could be the same part failing. I would hook up a code reader and try to get the code when you are driving and it comes on.

@@WinModel88 I would go ahead and replace it then. It's possible there's enough play in it that as the RPM comes up it gets out of alignment
