I live in the UK and managed to buy a 2007 E85 Z4 with a 2.5i engine with only 35k miles on the clock, a full BMW service history, and one elderly lady owner. I have had it now, for nearly 3 years and drive it short distances and longer on the weekend, it will need some attention but I can do most of it myself. I should do the roof motor modification to mine as that is a common problem too, but I do not park under trees etc. I still look at my car when we come home from family trips in my wife's Citreon C3 and say look at that beautiful car and I get a smile on my face :) I could have bought a 1-year-old car as I have done in the past costing me thousands more and then lose thousands more a few years down the line, if the Z4 costs me a few thousand as the years go by I will have had the pleasure of owning such a beautiful that is a fantastic car to drive with the same or possibly even less financial outlay. The electronic steering feels a little lacking at first until you get used to it and the car, it scared me at first, but it drives wherever I steer it with minimal drama. Sure, if you go too crazy in the end it is gonna bite ya! I love owning my Z4 and hopefully, the British Government will not financially tax me off the road in a bid to get me to swap for an EV

Wow 35k miles is nothing! It is a little gem and I am sure maintenance will be minimal. These m54 engines are generally super reliable and will last for many many years with regular maintenance, which is also easy to do. The devaluation argument is a strong one. I would also much rather drive a cheaper older car and pay for a little maintenance here and there, compared to having a downpayment on a newer car that loses most of its value quickly. I also think that cars like the z4 has probably already reached the lower part of the devaluation curve, and might even be worth more in a couple of years! I hope you get to keep yours and enjoy it for as long as you can.

Dont forget to change the small o-rings on the oil filter housing stick. The small green ones :) + also had to swap out the disa-unit and the rubber boot. May upgrade the disa-unit to the one with a metal paddle and pin, so you resolve the risk with sucking in the pin and blowing the engine.

Thank you! I have heard about the Disa-upgrade, will see how the aftermarket one holds up. I also cleaned the idle control valve off-camera, wasn't too difficult and really made the car idle nice and smooth again.

Hi, could you please post a video with the engine running smoothly vs misfiring? It is difficult to me to hear anything wrong with the engine without hearing what it should sound like when running well.

Hi! The reason I did not include a comparison is because it's actually hard to tell the difference over cellphone/computer audio. Super frustrating, as the difference is night and day in person, but unfortunately does not translate to the video. Even more noticeable than the sound though, is the vibration caused by the misfire. Even just sitting inside the car, the vibration is apparent and on acceleration it is even worse.

also never use cup holders and use a lubricant spray on the holder....it lessens the squeak...

I use my cupholders daily, they work ok for me. Good call on the spray though.
