Fixing a 2001 Ford Ranger That Won't Start

I had just replaced the battery and the starter in my 2003 Ford Ranger... Worked great for one day then when I turned the key all I heard was repeated click, click, click coming from underneath the drivers side dash....I came across your video just before it's about to have it towed.... Changed that same 25 AMP fuse in slot 19 and it fired right up! Wow! Thank you so much for taking the time to post your solution!!!

Your video saved me so much trouble! Thank you very much for posting. Worked like a charm. The fuse looked fine, but when I changed it it started right up. I then took electronic contact cleaner and cleaned all the fuses. They were all tarnished. The contact cleaner helped a lot.

I can confirm this fix , it happen today and I took battery to get tested full power , I wiggle #19 and boooom truck started 😅 so now I'm going to buy fuse #25 . Thank you my doooood!!

Also, That fuse powers the PCM which controls the starting system (Clutch sw., Park/ Neutral sw. positions) and can be influenced by the anti-theft module which must be able to sense the coded ignition key.

1997 Mazda B-4000SE 4.0L V6 here ( same as a Ford Ranger XLT) - mine suddenly one morning after using all day before would NOT START (it's happened before a few times), cranked like nuts, no "fire". What did I find? It was the F'ing Fuel Pump Inertia "collision" switch mounted on the passenger side inside the firewall. No truck impacts, no bumps, no anything that should have tripped that Inertia "collision" switch!! Fuel pump is fine! Beware Boys, ALWAYS ALWAYS check that damn Inertia "collision" switch FIRST on ANY Ranger or Mazda B-Series!! A kick of a foot, a package you have on the floor bumping it, could easily trip it! Push the button down to reset and GO!

Oh man I was just watching how to replace starter videos. Hope fuse is my problem I'll know in a few hours. EDIT: My problem is the passive alarm system, 2000 Ford Ranger. It disables the starter but not the fuel pump in this particular vehicle. One of 3 ways starts the truck at this point until I can get it fixed. 1) Push start it (manual). 2) Adjust the steering column down with key in start position. 3) Turn the key to the on position (not all the way to start) wait about three minutes then turn the key all the way to start. When I'm not in a position to push start it one of the other 2 ways has worked up until this point. Hope this helps somebody.

Oh boy nvm- I just googled and learned that the no.19 fuse box is the 19 25A 1998-1999: PCM Power Diode ▶️2000: PCM Power Diode, Ignition, PATS◀️

@@Aud1b1e1nc1s1on going to bring it to an auto electric guy this week. Mine push starts but I'm somewhat baffled as to what the problem is. The tricks that were working before are no longer working and I'm thinking they were just coincidental. So I don't know if it is actually the passive alarm system. I could work on vehicles back in the day but computerized cars are above my paygrade. I'll let you know once I figure it out.

( I had my starter replaced last month , so I took it back with expectations that if it is infact the starter that’s defective, it’ll be swapped out no charge. #fingerscrossed . I checked the fuse for the pats / ignition/ pcm diode as this video instructs . My fuse was still in good working order. I’m learning how to do work on my truck, slowly but surely. Wish I would have learned that instead of cabinetry in high school ! Lol!But hey , carpe diem! Right?

Taking out the fuse can also be used as a anti theft system

The battery can also be removed and carried with you to prevent theft and possible dead battery issue if theft blinky light on dash kills it after several years of blinking the word 'theft' in red on the dash for some purpose. Taking out the drive shaft works too.

Damn...the good battery/low voltage issue is exactly my issue. I'm getting a 25A fuse in the morning. And I was thinking it was either the starter or the ignition switch. We'll see. Thanks for sharing.

There should be a class action suing on Ford for this particular problem. I had to tow my Ford ranger today for intermittent or ramdom starting . Im sick and tired of this .

That battery warning light means your battery isn’t charging while the truck is running I had the same problem check the connection’s to your alternator I blew mine out with a air compressor and it fixed the issue

MY 02' Ranger just failed. Does not start, no crank but plenty of battery juices. So I'm thinking it's either the fuse is blown or loose transmission linkage.

@@samanthasarinana2612 yes i did, it was just a very loose transmission lever- i just had to move the lever around until the needle was fully resting to Park(P). then it started. In your case, the alarm might be the culprit being the light acting weird. Try to have the alarm reset.

Good check, unfortunately wasn't my fix. When I go to crank it, the brake light comes on but it doesn't crank. But if I go jump the starter relay it'll fire over. It's also intermittent sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't

Man these little trucks are the greatest headache you could buy and no one likes to talk about it when they touch on price points!!!! Sure its a great truck for the current price (2-3k) but sheeesh this appears to be a massive problem AND EACH ONE SEEMS TO BE UNIQUE!! e.g., you have power going to your dash in this video. and in other videos its a wide variety of blinking and solutions! My b2300 just goes dark COMPLETELY. no power to nothing. no rhyme or reason. One day I can use it powering on and off 10 times a day and the next day itll go 2 times before clicking and wiping all the power from the truck. Cant even work the hazards. SMH so my current work around is just disconnecting and connecting the battery. whatever works i guess
