Fixing a 30 Year Old Lawnmower That I Bought for $20

You should have removed and cleaned that fine screen then pried out the Emulsion tube from the boss the screen covered. There is a flat spot for a small screwdriver to help get it out. Clean all the holes in the tube. Often the plastic Carb base warps and I file down the high spots. There are 2 gaskets, One is the Diaphragm. Make sure you get them in the right order. You have it reving too high. Move the lever back to the right when standing behind it. You got Lucky! Back off governor spring if necessary.

Good advice. I did pull off the thimble and the tube and cleaned them but it was boring video😉. I will do that with the gasket next time…thank you for the advice!

I just did my very similar Carb. Gasket and Diaphragm (5 Bolt) was only $5. The 2 bolt hole bosses furthest apart were warped and I flat filed them down a bit. Be sure the O ring fits tightly on the engine from the carb. 3.5 HP Briggs branded Murray. Glad it is running (slower I hope).

Sometimes parts need to be replaced...but first I add Berryman b12 to the fuel...run the engine...then if necessary replace parts.

I know a guy that was mowing a ditch from the side like you did and he slipped on the incline down into the blade. Cut off half of 3 toes. Was before foot guards were required. I guess that made him a statistic in favor of them. I mowing lengthwise now..

When I hear 30 year old lawnmower I instantly think "ah yes the 70s." then I see a 90s machine and it takes me a minute to realize that would technically be considered vintage now.

I have this issue. It's been sitting for 5 years and the wife wants to "try to mow for the first time." This video might have just put a little Colombian to work!
