I just realized why my inner-city commercial areas are starved for resources. Of course offices don't produce resources - that makes so much sense now. I don't know why I was thinking they did. Thanks Biffa, I learn something from every video!

I believe IT cluster specialisation does produce goods, and the same traffic as regular offices.
@valhar20004 жыл бұрын
Commercial buildings can import goods from outside the city. If they aren't getting enough goods, it means that the trucks and vans can't reach them in time. In other words, you have a traffic problem. You need to make sure that trucks and vans from outside (and any industry you do have) are able to reach your commercial buildings quickly.

Great video; happy to see the second part of this city fix. Noticed at 8:13 when you stated fixing that road, none of the junctions had cars being able to turn left. Still able to fix the traffic anyways. Crazy how big you grew the city population wise by the end of the video.

Hi Biffa, I would suggest to set the speed on your cargo train at 80kmh and leave the by-pass at unlimited. The AI are looking at the quickest route but often it is the shortest in their AI minds... And unfortunately they will not use the by-pass. Great video. Cheers.
@worldpeace63224 жыл бұрын
In this context it's ok, as the trains will by default be inclined to use the bypass rather than the station. Just like pedestrians are a little more likely to use the paths than the road, even if it's slightly longer
@saiyanprince9894 жыл бұрын
After watching hundreds of your fix videos, I feel that the one thing you do no change nearly enough(especially on your super busy roundabouts) is the speed. On a handful of your older videos, you slowed them down quite a bit and that seemed to greatly improve the amount of traffic flow into and out of your roundabouts. Great vid as always. Almost got my gaming pc setup. Excited to start playing this game.

No bus, no metro, no train, any mass transit. It would be challenging, but is it possible to have a viable city where you can grow it and make money ? One strange traffic quirk I've found with 3 way meeting 3 way junctions is you can do the colored lines 1:1 to each lane from each possible (dedicated turning lanes with only 1 dst lane) and the overlap pattern it makes actually allows traffic to just go through the intersections relatively unimpeded allowing everyone to have right of way. It handles a decently large amount of traffic before cars actually start bumping into each other, and even when that happens they resolve quite nicely without gridlock due to the way the lines overlap. What I mean by this is that each lane only crosses another lane within the intersection at a point where no other lane intersects. Normally there's some sort of convergence so like 4 lines go through 1 spot causing super jam, but there isn't any of that on 3 x 3 way forced destination. Don't even need stop signs just everyone has right of way.

I feel that a lot of those interchange connections should be done properly so the red areas go away. But probably not worth it for just a city fix. Great result by the way. Cities that big are no easy feat.

One thing I noticed with the main roads settings is that by default they don't allow left turns, nor do they allow thru-traffic on side roads, so I always need to do through and make sure that there are at least a few crossing roads allowed, as well as a handful of left-turns, or else I'll get crazy amounts of traffic as everyone trying to cross the Main Road gets funneled into one or two points and then get all backed up.

@toddabbott7814 жыл бұрын
One of the main things I do to fix traffic is to get rid of post offices. They do pretty much nothing and add a ton of traffic. Get rid of most storage (warehouses, silos, oil tanks...). The factories and farms, oil wells have some storage room in them and it is best to just have the factories as close to the resources as possible. Put in cargo trains near all industry and commercial. Put in lots of subways (trollies are not bad either). Put in bus depots to handle traffic from out of the city. Try to keep stuff like fire, police, clinics, crematoriums, and garbage near where they are needed. Putting them clustered together farther away just makes them less effective and adds to traffic. Connect airports and cargo harbors to the cargo trains. All this will reduce traffic. That mod you had so industry used the closest source for materials would be great if it does not need to draw from warehouses. I will have to look closer at that mod. I also do not like offices too much because they do not provide products to sell and they require a lot of higher education. A bit ago you made a forestry area and put in its own residential area and set the restrictions on education there. That is perfect. You are literally forcing the people that work at the forestry area to come from those people living nearest it. The offices do make more money, but so do the factories that use the resources. I would not have more than 25% of your industry come from offices. Now for traffic... you do it better than me, but I find the walkways to spot pedestrians from blocking intersections makes a HUGE difference... especially near subways. Try to make sure heavy traffic areas have lots of highway access. If you do it right you should have almost no cars on the roads or highways. Make sure you have plenty of main roads cutting through cities and set them up as early as you can. Roundabouts should only be needed on where two main roads meet. Cut down on "too many" roads into an area. It is better to have a few roads in an out of an area with good intersections than to have a ton of roads hitting your main streets. Be careful with monuments and such. They cost a lot of money and it is rare you will have enough tourism to make that money back. There are a few that negate the need for things like education, but the hospital one would create a lot of traffic and the transportation beam thing has so much traffic that you need about 4 subways going in different directions to handle the traffic from it. It is possible to make it work, but difficult. I usually ban cars on the road it is on until the pedestrians get past the subways. I also find that parking lots can actually help spread out areas that are too dense and actually help traffic a bit as people will actually park in them and walk farther instead of driving the whole way.
@bazzakrak4 жыл бұрын
Off course you can get rid of warehouses, silos, post office etc etc, but then it won't have the feel of a real city. The challenge, at least for me, is to have those things in just like I do in the city I live in.
@toddabbott7814 жыл бұрын
@@bazzakrak There is not much resembling a "real" city in the game, like 20% of your traffic being from mail trucks, or spending more time driving to work and back then working or sleeping, or cars appearing and disappearing, or cars driving over curbs to get to parking lots, or the massive death waves. Also there is some of the monuments and special buildings... There is little realism in the game. The mail seems an afterthought and there is no real reason for it in the game. The warehouses are to cover for inefficiencies. Any good manufacturer does "just in time" manufacturing and have usually between 1 to 1.5 days of inventory on hand. Silos and such are needed because the harvest is typically only once a year, so inventory of grains and such surge and need massive storage to handle it. In Cities Skylines you harvest every day.

From a traffic management perspective, turning off pedestrian crossings to favour car traffic will just increase the number of people taking their car to get around the city. So it only works in the short term, long term you're better off improving pedestrian and cycling accessibility.
@valhar20004 жыл бұрын
In busy streets I remove pedestrian crossings and rely on elevated pedestrian walkways. They failed in London, but they work very well in Cities Skylines. If you install mods, you can have pathways that combine pedestrians and bicycles to get even more benefit. This works so well that I almost never have problems with cims moving around the city; my traffic problems come from the insane number of cargo trains, trucks and vans I get everywhere.
@sanchises4 жыл бұрын
@@valhar2000Which mod do you use for that?
@valhar20004 жыл бұрын
@@sanchises I use the "Pedestrian and Bicycle Path, by Jan" for the combined pedestrian and bicycle pathways, and "Pedestrian overpass S by hakmikan" and "Pedestrian Bridge by LIME" to provide compact walkways to allow people to cross streets. The "Automatic Pedestrian Bridge Builder" that Biffa uses is also useful for this. Building lots of pedestrian walkways is good because it clears the streets up for traffic, and also because it spaces the buildings out a bit, so they don't generate so much traffic in a small space. Plus, it looks cool.
