I just did this today. After 8 months of doing my dishes by hand thinking I would have to buy a new dishwasher, I found this clip and knew if it didn't work what did I have to lose? I got my carpenter friend over who had the tools and together we fixed the washer in 20 min. It took longer to screw and unscrew the screws than to make the actual fix! Thank you for this KZbin! You saved me hundreds!

Thank you. The touch panel was completely dead (didn't respond at all). Having nothing to lose, your video encouraged me to try something different. I trimmed the ribbon without removing the actual touch pad - but still no change. I then decided to lift off the pad; and *presto*, it came back to life. Saved me the time and effort of looking for a replacement. It seems this model was vastly distributed as there are many being re-sold via Kijiji on a regular basis. The one I have is actually the second one I bought used for $40 in a successful effort to fix this same problem (oddly unresponsive touch pad).

Just fixed my dishwasher!! The dishwasher is about 15 years old and the lights stopped working a couple years ago, but everything else was fine. Today, the start button stopped working, so I Googled "Start button doesn't work on a Maytag 300" and found this video. Watched the whole thing twice, then read all the comments. Unplugged the power cable under the sink. Found my groovy screwdriver set like the one in the video, took the door apart, checked the electronic control board and it was OK. I pulled out the ribbon cable, cleaned off the tips with alcohol and a pencil eraser (didn't trim it right away) and reinserted it into the proper place. Figured I could go back and trim it if cleaning didn't do the trick. Reassembled the door, plugged it back in, crossed my fingers, pushed the start button, and voilà -- heard that familiar sound of a once-again working appliance! The lights still do not work, but I really don't care -- I haven't ever really used the alternative wash cycles -- the "Start" button is all I need. Thanks so much for taking the time to make and post this six years ago!

Just FYI for anyone else following along in the future before doing anything else just pop open the control board and unplug the ribbon cable. Pull the connector all the way open and push the ribbon all the way in, then push the connector close to lock it in place. This fixed it for me so no trimming or peeling adhesive needed!

Thank you. This video saved me loads of time and money. Thanks to your effort, I didn't even have to take the connection to plastic panel apart, just use tape (solution to everything) to hold it up and went straight for the control box. Did not have to remove the panel either. Also, I simply cleaned the tip of the connector. There is a lot of oxidation. I used a pencil eraser to clean it. But I would recommend a electronic contact lubricant cleaner (from auto store). Do not clip off the end of the connector, you may cut too much and leave too small off an area to make contact. Nevertheless, it's a great video.

Great tip for fixing any ribbon cable connection. For other possibly corroded electronic connections use a spray electronic connection cleaner, but for best results, use the full strength Deoxit brand of this cleaner. For any connection exposed to moisture, dielectric grease from your local auto parts store works wonders in protecting them from further corrosion.

I tried this too and it did not work for me. What did work was scrapping all the little pin contacts on the ribbon cable with a sharp metal pick and using some contact cleaner (regular rubbing alcohol). You may want to update your video with this info as I feel that cutting the end of the ribbon cable did nothing for me. I suspect the act of just cleaning the ribbon cable contacts and re-jacking it was enough to get the dishwasher going for some of the people who commented success with your technique.

Nice! I'd probably not even bother to pull the glued face plate off. Just try trimming the end of the cable and see if it fixes it. If it doesn't, then you probably need to replace the control panel. Unfortunately in my case after I trimmed the cable NONE of the lights would come on the control panel (only a few did before). I pulled off the face plate and noticed staining on the end of the ribbon cable. My guess is water leaked behind the plate and managed to corrode it. Oh well. eBay appears to be the cheapest place for replacement parts at the moment. $120 compared to $157 on Amazon. Still cheaper than a whole new washer.

Apparently this brand has been under recall for fire hazards since 2010. The rinse container can leak into the control panel burn out the ribbon and cause a fire hazard. This would explain the many other users who have had the control panel stop operating. This dishwasher was in my house when I bought it back in 2012 however Maytag/Whirlpool whatever they call themselves made no attempt to contact me concerning the recall. I'm glad a such a big cooperation cares about my survival.

The 2 mm piece I cut of the strip did not have that "DH" sticker on it. But it was the same strip you had on the video. I also didnt remove the sticky label of the control panel, because the strip was accessible. I dont think this made a difference. And there wasn't any evidence of water leakage.

So... if you're just trimming the end of the cable to try and get a better connection, you don't need to removed the control panel at all. Right? Also, instead of cutting it, why not just try cleaning the cable connectors with some steel wool or similar? Maybe even some contact cleaner. Better in the long run than just cutting off bits of the ribbon cable, especially if you need to do it more than once.

SAVE A LOT OF MONEY with this fix. SAVE EVEN MORE TIME and Go straight to his fix. After unplugging power and removing the interior panel, look at 1:16. Just unscrew the one bolt for black cover to reveal the ribbon (leave the two that attach black box to the door). (Skip to 1:22) Slide the white plastic cover away from electronics board before pulling ribbon. In video you can see it move as he pulls the ribbon. If it does not have the DH label (like mine) just pull the ribbon similar to what you see in the video. Do NOT cut the ribbon. Clean the contact end as mentioned in several comments (I used a pencil eraser and wiped clean with rubbing alcohol on a face pad/cotton ball). Thread or slide the ribbon back into the connection and slide the white plastic cover toward the electronics board to make connection tight (critical for good contact). Replace black cover over electronics board. Replace interior panel and plug in dishwasher. I did this abbreviated procedure and did not gut my dishwasher like in the video. I am up and running. It was a fast and very inexpensive fix. If this doesn't work, then try trimming the ribbon. I think the connection was just needing to be refreshed. THANKS for the idea. I will bill my wife for my service call and labor. Who knows if I will get paid or not.
