The Parkside PLS 48 D2 Soldering Station has a screw in soldering iron tip. This is neither common nor a good idea, as they can break off being unscrewed, which is what happened here.
Here I show removing and repairing it.

Tell you a funny story about a tap and die set. In my driving instructor days I was doing a first clutch change on an MG Metro. Unbelievably one of the three holes in the flywheel used by the puller didn't have a thread. A passing instructor who I had never met, stopped to see if I needed assistance. To this day I still find it incredible to say he had a tap and die set in the back of his car. Cut a thread in the hole, he then went on his way never to be seen again. Whilst many may have owned a tap and die set back in the day who carries one in the boot of their car? Saved me a lot of aggro as at the time I was baffled as to why two of the three pulley bolts screwed in fine but one wouldn't. Subsequently bought a tap and die set.

I have many tap and die sets. Never kept one in the boot of the car. Interesting. Always handy to have. Many thanks for watching!

Good to see you back in another video Ben. Nice work on getting the thread cleaned out. Those can be a bit of a pain if the broken bit is really stuck in there.

Can be. Not a good idea to have a screw in bit in a soldering iron if you ask me. Asking for trouble. Still, it is copper so much softer than the surrounding material. Many thanks for watching!

Good job Ben.Today I have to fix a friend’s exhaust pipe that the bolt snapped off.I have to drill it out the same way you did.I always start with a really small bit and then I step it up.Great video.

Cheers, and that is the way I go when drilling. However if there is enough of a stud sticking out to weld to, I would weld a nut on first and use an impact and heat to get it out before I tried drilling. (I did that changing wheel bearings on my Jaguar X Type). Many thanks for watching!

If you want to cut in red copper, you must use alcohol mix with a little bit oil.

By the time I was running a tap it was in steel, cleaning out the remnants of the copper, rather than tapping copper. However thanks for the tip. Many thanks for watching, please like, share and if you like the channel, subscribe!

I'd seen those soldering irons in Lidl and thought about getting one because it could be useful (the usual thing applies, if I do get one of their cordless items, I'd also need to get a battery and charger), but having seen the fitment of the tips, I'm somewhat underwhelmed. I'd bet that you won't be the first or last person to have one of the tips seize in place and break. Still, glad you got it sorted so you can carry on using it. I've had little or no success with screw extractors, I think whenever I've had a broken stud/screw or whatever, it's needed to be re tapped, or in some cases when it's rusted in place, lots of heat to get it out. Nice to see you back by the way Ben.

It's probably just me but I've never managed to get a bolt extractor to work. My Dad called them 'Easy Outs' but my brother named them 'Difficult Outs'. Is it just us or are they a bit hit-and-miss. Oh well, all's well that ends well. Cheers Ben.
