@@SHARPEYSWORKSHOP I agree the trolls are slap happy with that thumbs down, however I solder mostly electronics and thinner gauge wire and pre-tinning the wire leads and stacking them yields cleaner more streamlined joints after heat shrink is applied especially when space is tight. But that doesn’t mean either of us is wrong or right for that matter, it’s about getting the job done to the best of your skill and efficiency. So while I might do it your way it doesn’t hurt to learn something new. So, for that you get a thumbs up 👍!!! As for Dremel I expected better from them. It seems like a quality kit (the bits leave much to be desired for my needs) there are much better options IMO for portable soldering irons. I appreciate high quality tools and I do love Dremel rotary grinders though. I could walk around Home Depot and Lowe’s for hours. Great video!

No, it is and was a horrible example how to solder two wires together. Not one true expert would ever instruct someone to solder this way. Just look at that giant ball of solder which fell off at the end. It was because you don't melt the solder and drag it up on top of the wires as if to be almost scooping the melting solder. You place the iron underneath the wire and while waiting for the wire to get hot enough, you place the solder wire on top and the solder will then flow into the wires, and you're done. When I saw him yank that wire off with a pair of needle nose pliers, I knew he didn't have a clue about anything. Sorry, but just because you've lived long it doesn't mean you were given good information. I would question anything this guy says.

You need a real wire stripper. That method only results in broken wires

Thanks for introducing me to this product. Is there a problem with different brands of Butane fuel?
@ronaldschild157
@ronaldschild157 4 жыл бұрын
I learned recently there are different grades of butane and not all of the stuff the average consumer buys off the shelf is best for butane soldering irons. Soldering irons will last the longest if you refill them with triple-refined butane fuel. Butane can be notoriously dirty and that can clog the jet inside the torch. The jet necks down to a very small size of orifice - something like a few thousandths of an inch. If you care about your tools and plan to keep them as long as possible, spend a few extra beans and go for the triple-refined butane. There's even a quadruple-refined offering; it's usually the same price but less quantity.

That explains why I have two of these ( different brands ) left in drawers. Both stopped working after a few refills, so I'd decided they were rubbish. I'd used the Ronson lighter gas....I guess that's too low grade now.

PLEASE HELP ME! How do you keep your tip from corroding i bought it yesterday and had nothing but trouble with the tip corroding every time i solder a wire the tip corrodes can you please tell me how to stop this? I use low temperature should i be using higher temperature? My soldering tip on low turns cherry red on low flame. The discoloration on the tip is bad at low temperature setting

The tips always get discoloured from use in my experience. What is important is when you're done using it, before turning it off, to put some solder on the tip, wipe it off, then put on some more, but don't wipe it off. Turn off the iron and leave it to cool with the solder on the tip. If I'm remembering correctly the flux in the solder cleans off the tip and the coating of solder protects the tip while not in use.

always touch solder to iron whilst it touches a component, wire, or pad...not just solder to tip whilst the iron isnt touching what it solders. some people make a mistake of putting solder on the iron.... this is bad and wrong. the tip should be cleaned with sponge or mesh before it touches anything . I've found the versatip far too hot to solder anything, it oxidizes the tip before I can tin it, so it repels solder like oil in water... also the hot air attachment scorches wire or heat shrink at 8-12" away. Wish I could turn down the gas even more.

And I have both filed and sanded the tip down, it just heats up too fast. I have another tip on the way because I wanted to try and modify one, but it might end up a straight up replacement.

@@VegaO2k kinda, I went back to my trusty $12 benzomatic butane soldering iron, it's a pain to light sometimes, but its consistent and works as advertised. I never heard back from dremel either when I sent an email asking if it's normal for them to get too hot at every level.

@@theRealMadHatter you ruined the tip by sanding it. It has a thin coating on it that makes the solder stick. A brass dry cleaner would help remove the oxide, mine got a black tip the first time i used it, but it could be scraped away with a peice of copper, and now it works like a charm, the copper is not hard enough to damage the coating. To heat a new tip for the first time, while cold cover it with flux and then wrap it tightly in a coil of solder, place the iron so it lays horizontional and heat it up on the lowest setting, when the solder drips off its ready, It is not needed to do this after the first time.

Hey, there. I didn't notice a fan on while you were soldering. I hear the fumes from the melting wire are noxious. Be careful, bud. Also, there is one soldering iron I've heard about that's in the same price range. And it's pretty damn dandy. It's called the TS100. Check it out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hYqnlqKde9J_jas ... Any guy who is so lazy or ill equipped not to have wire strippers, is surely ill equipped to properly test anything. And after watching that pathetic attempt at soldering, (please do not do what this guy is doing or you'll end up with that disaster and the huge ball of solder that fell off), it's quite clear why so many people gave this video a down vote.
