That’s a lot of motors! Glad you got them working.

I started fixing these things when I was 9 lol. 1970. Thought it would be fun and now I am retired after 54 years of of building these things. They are a blast and like most mechanice, I love making something dead come back to life... :-) Seems like you are on your way. Keep it up! There is a huge need for low cost outboards these ddays. Not everyone can afford 120thousand dollars for a fishing or bass boat. Crazy ....

@@daddski1 Thanks man, it’s definitely satisfying taking something broken and fixing it. I agree with the need for low cost outboards. It seems like a lot of mechanic shops don’t want to touch the older smaller outboards just want more profit from the newer bigger motors

One thing I would suggest you always do BEFORE YOU START THEM. Pull the lower and change or inspect the water pump impeller. The Honda is the perfect example. If it is old and cracking, starting will finish breaking off fins. The Honda 20 fin is missing, you HAVE TO FIND IT. The fins end up in the engine somewhere blocking water flow. You will still get good tell tale flow at times but somewhere there is now a blockage and you may have been the cause, or someone before you did it. Who knows, but it is always imperative you find it because it will kill your engine sooner or later. The easiest way to not have it happen is simply do that first, before you start it up. Make sense?

Ive chased a few fins and had to pull case sides to find them. Or they come out through the outlet n clog it. Great advice.

If you see water in the lowe gearcase, there is a reason why this water is there! And the reason are seals. There are two on the propshaft and one on the drive shaft. Just adding oil in to the gearcase never solves the problem!
@sacratboatingandfishing2 ай бұрын
@@jacobswell2533 Yes you’re right. For the Mercury 5hp I replaced the prop shaft seals and crush washers for the lower unit. I forgot to include it since I had close to a 100 hours of footage to go through for this vid. I mentioned it on one of my YT short vids for the Merc 5hp

hey, i have a qeustion i have a johnson 50 50hp an old one 1983 i think model number j50becde i think. but it has an shifting problem. There is a few things i popped out the lower unit. and then i put it back the same way but it was off so when i tried to shift via the remote controller it would not push the lever back far enough witch made it so that when i put it in forward it was in forward when i put it in neutral it was still in forward and when i put it in reverse it would be in neutral. And right now i can only shift to reverse when pushing the shift lever by hand. I diagnosed a few things it could be the gears altho the oil was not milky it still could be. second i switched the throllte and shift cables in the control box and on the engine to see if the cable was bad. and i checked the remote controll box any advise?
@Sebwierda2 ай бұрын
ohh and the shifting is really hard u really need to put some elbow grease on the lever to shift it
@sacratboatingandfishing2 ай бұрын
@@Sebwierda The position of your shift linkage connector that connects the 2 shift rods is probably slightly off. Try slightly adjusting it while checking the prop is engaging for all 3 gears
