I accidentally got some on my black trim by using turtle wax paste(old school stuff) and I thought I removed it with a ceramic detail spray but it eventually comes back after you wash the car a couple times. A regular pink eraser though seems to have worked. Lightly use a regular eraser on the white areas.
@showwhite732026 күн бұрын
It's very difficult to remove wax and polish is because it's designed to be this way. The sole purpose of these chemicals is to stay on as long as possible. So using a water-based cleaner isn't going to work. In chemistry, you learn that like dissolves like. You need to find a nonpolar chemical that will dissolve the wax and polish. However, if you use a chemical that's too similar to the plastic (which is nonpolar), you'll end up dissolving the plastic too. I found an eraser works really well.

Hi mate, sorry to hear that. You should speak to the detailer who did the job for you and ask them to fix it. The correct method is to mask up the plastic trims.
@PatTheRiot Жыл бұрын
@@iglcoatingsauI find that masking the trim is much less efficient than just applying a greasy non evaporating conditionner like 303 protectant to the trim before polishing. Im checking this video because for the first time I taped all the trim on a rav4 and it took forever. Still had tons of spots (I only did first 2-3 inches my mistake) of hazing polish impossible to remove from old dry trim. Only reason I didnt 303 this time was because I was applying a ceramic coating later and didnt want to degrease too much. Trust me in this case prevention beats anything. Coat your trims BEFORE polish 😂 What I found to work so far in order: 3-IPA 2-Klasse AIO (probably the silicon base.) 1- Magic eraser with IPA, seems to smudge it around tho need to wipe with water and microfibre alot. All these need a lot of scrubbing. Im about to try the pencil eraser and if that doesnt work to remove the embedded caked in polish, im pulling out the heat gun and my dual orb. with a microfibre cut pad. 😂

Just use spray wax and you dont have to worry. Either that or ceramic coat it and you wont have to fool around with pastes.
@iglcoatingsau10 ай бұрын
In this case it wouldnt work because there is a physical build up of wax on the trim that will reject the coating. Its not a case of faded trim
@jensz936010 ай бұрын
@@iglcoatingsau clay bar or 91% alcohol will remove it, if the plastic trim gets faded just use Rustoleum plastic spray. It is made for patio furniture but it adheres to the plastic and stays looking OEM black. I did it after using at least 4 products that claim to restore trim but failed or washed away. The Rustoleum been on a year now and no fade , no streaks or anything, looks like new.

Those magic erasers can sure clean a lot of things great, but I would worry about the abrasive nature of them. They are sort of like using 1000 to 1500 sand paper? guessing, but that's kind of why they work. I think you could actually put fine scratch or scuff marks in some plastics with that, test area.
