I tried this yesterday afternoon with a #7 "O" ring (paid $2.88 for a pack of them at Home Depot). I knew I was on the right track because the leak slowed, but the unit was still losing water. So...I put another "O" ring right on top of the first one and BAM!...it's the next morning now and my counter is still dry as a bone. Thank you soooo much for posting this vid : )

I found that using a #7 o-ring didn't always stop the leaking, so I switched to a #8 o-ring (9/16" O.D. x 3/8" I.D. x 3/32"), and that did the trick!

Al, I watched your video this morning and had my leaky 3-year-old Keurig fixed by lunch; thanks! I couldn't find any 3/16" o-rings, so I opted for a 10-pack of #7 o-rings (1/2" O.D. x 3/8" I.D. x 1/16") for less than $3 from Lowe's plumbing department. I also didn't have a sharpie handy, but the contoured cap of a bottle of Afrin nasal spray worked just fine. It took less than 5 minutes from start to finish, which included giving it a test run, and the base was bone dry. As you mentioned below, it was a cheap fix to try, and given that a discounted replacement was going to run me about 80-bucks, it was certainly worth it. Thanks again!

Thanks Lee. I'm glad it worked for you. I've added your use of #7 o-rings (1/2" O.D. x 3/8" I.D. x 1/16") to the video description for people having a problem finding 3/16" O-rings. Thanks for letting me know.

Brilliant! I have the Keurig K40 and it started leaking on the bottom, behind the reservoir and thought I needed to replace the hose but then I found this video and it worked! I think the nub on the bottom of the K40's reservoir is larger than the example provided because a 3/16th-inch rubber ring was too small, but a 3/8 stretched enough to work and it is now leak free and sealed! Thank you Al!

I just fixed one a few days ago. This seems like a lot of trouble to go through. I went to Home Depot and bought a pack of #83 o-rings (1/2" x 5/16") for about two bucks. I had no problem slipping one over the water outlet on the bottom of the water tank. The first time I tried I pushed the o-ring all the way until it met the bottom of the tank. I filled it with water and waited an hour or two. I was disappointed to find it was still leaking. So what I did was move the o-ring down maybe a 1/4" so it was no longer flush with the bottom of the tank. I then placed the tank back on as usual and filled with water. After two days there are no leaks. I think pushing the o-ring all the way up to the bottom of the tank was too far and caused the o-ring not to seal the gasket on the water inlet.

After literally months of tolerating a leaking Keurig, I found this wonderful solution. We bought one #8 o-ring from Ace Hardeware for 35 cents and our coffee maker is as good as new! We brought the reservoir to Ace to be sure we could find the right size. The sales person easily slipped it on the bottom water outlet/opening. We were so close to dumping it until I made this one, last-ditch effort for try to fix it. I am thrilled. Thank you!

@@alsmith1969 Thank you for the prompt reply! I didn't think the O-ring would fix the problem since the water leak is under the machine at the back, sort of in line with the electrical cord, and it only happens when the water is being dispensed. The leak/puddle is about the size of a 1/2 dollar coin. I tried finding out if it starts while the water is being heated, but I don't think so. Otherwise, it's bone dry. This machine served us well for 7 yrs without any issues. Not sure if a new one would be free of problems/last for that long. Before I get rid of it, out of curiosity, I'll open up the bottom to see how are things on the inside. If I find the culprit, I'll post it.

I have a K90 that's leaking. I have a newer model that has the similar looking nozzle that isn't leaking. I don't see an oring on the good machine. These orings aren't installed originally? What keeps them from leaking before you need the oring? It seems there's no gasket on the newer one - just the black ring on the base. There's a bit of a clear insert on both (in the machine itself). I guess the insert gets stretched out over time allowing the leak?

Well my Keurig is leaking from the reservoir check valve, and I'm wondering if it's possible to get a new silicone stopper or at least an O-Ring to fit the check Valve plunger.

@@alsmith1969 It's the same model. When I fill the reservoir (detached from the machine) with water, it starts leaking. There's a really small O-ring on the plunger that's under the screen in the reservoir held by 3 screws, and I think the newer Keurigs have a silicone stopper in place of that O-ring, and so far, I have not seen anything about that.
@alsmith1969 Жыл бұрын
@@josephheston9238 I'd try putting an o-ring on that "plunger" it's a cheap fix if it works. If that doesn't fix it try 2 o-rings as others have done. Failing that I'd try a tiny bit of epoxy and then sand it so it's flush. I think you can purchase a new resevoir from Keurig. They might even do that for free if you call them. Other than that my friend I'm at a loss. Wish you luck.

Al Smith 2 days ago @Nancy Gianakas Good luck Nancy...there's a few videos on youtube on how to disassemble the unit...you got nothing to lose giving it a shot. Before dismantling the machine, I found this link www.fixya.com/support/t10601721-keurig_leaking_from_bottom which addresses the exact issue I'm having with my B60 model. This is what someone wrote: "My Keurig B60 had the same issue. The water reservoir has a valve in a nipple on the bottom that slides into a clear plastic fitting within the base of the unit. Water from the reservoir is supposed to pass through the fitting and into the pump, which is also in the base. Over time, hard water deposits can build up on the nipple or the mating fitting (or both) such that a good seal is not made when the reservoir is in place and water slowly leaks out the bottom..." Upon reading that, realizing that the culprit could be the water deposits, instead of opening up the machine, I decided to take a less invasive approach. I poured white vinegar 5% acidity in the fitting where the water reservoir slides into at the bottom of the unit. I then filled up the water reservoir half way with white vinegar 5% acidity, ran it thru ("brewed") a few cups. Left it alone for a couple of hrs. Then I brewed the rest of the vinegar, brewed multiple cups of water to get rid of the vinegar order, and noticed the puddle of water was smaller. Yesterday, no water, bone dry. Today, the same thing. I hope the problem is fixed. If not...time to get a new Keurig.

Thanks for your video. I have a K65 model and am not sure where the o ring would go. Does it still go over the exterior of the nozzle like in your video, and do you push it all the way down till it touches the outside base of the reservoir? Do you know if I should try the #7 o ring for this model? Thanks
@alsmith19698 жыл бұрын
Hi Laurie, I'm not familiar with the different models but from what you've said I believe a #7 o ring would work just fine...and yes you push the o ring down tight to the base of the reservoir.

Thanks Al. I picked up a #7 o ring for 69 cents at ACE and was able to slip it over the nozzle by hand. Very quick and easy and it worked!! Does the boring go on the outside or inside?
@alsmith19694 жыл бұрын
When you have the water reservoir off if you look on the bottom you'll see a nozzle and the o ring slips over that nozzle and you roll it on as far as it will go.

Scott, is there an oring at the bottom of the base. ( the female connection).
@alsmith19698 жыл бұрын
I have no idea, I've never taken one apart. I just know an O ring placed around the nozzle at the bottom of the reservoir solves most problems of keurigs leaking from the bottom...it provides a better seal between the two surfaces.
@PickledAndFermented10 жыл бұрын
My Keurig is leaking from the bottom of the machine, not at the reservoir. Is that the same thing you were experiencing?
@alsmith196910 жыл бұрын
My Keurig was leaking because there wasn't a good seal between where the nozzle of the reservoir plugs into the machine. What happens is the water is able to leak from this spot and it flows out and over onto the counter. If you're not sure whether that's what's happening on your machine, it's a cheap fix to try. I hope this helps.
@TheYota111510 жыл бұрын

You need a 3/16" inside diameter "O" ring or you can go to a fishing tackle store and ask for a package of "O" rings for rigging a worm wacky style that's what I used and it worked well.

Worked here too.. I would suggest using a silicon O-ring and if you can find it a food grade. I know the water isn't touching that o-ring much but food grade is always better. I just went with this one: www.amazon.com/dp/B000FMUU2G.
