Have this exact same leak in that same spot! Going to give this a shot because a new tank just isnt in the budget. Thanks for the video.

Can also take the tank down and get welded. Its what we do.
@ThatBlueKW Жыл бұрын
For sure! Welding a patch is the way to go.
@isaacmontoya9144 Жыл бұрын
@@ThatBlueKW yea our local shop charges about 200 for a patch... also a great time to replace sending unit if fuel guage doesn't work
@realskata16 Жыл бұрын
@@isaacmontoya9144I wish ours only charged $200. Every welder around here says $1000 which is crazy considering a new tank is $800

I wouldn’t call this the cheap fix I would call it the smart fix! Top tank not really in a critical spot. Good on you

Steel stick is awesome. I used it on my radiator drain plug. My gf used it on her fuel tank as well. Good results. Uncle used it on one of his jobsite power tools as well

Hey Matt, I’m always impressed that your never afraid to get in there and try yourself. And one month is a good test for success 👍. P.S. I sent you an Email yesterday with a new subscriber song from my band. It’s hot 🔥

Had pitting in a 15yr old car steel gas tank once (lower corner). JB to the resulcue for me back then too. It was a bit damp at times, but it never dripped again. 💪👌

Hope you got that rubber insulator back between the tank and the arc-shaped locating bracket on the frame rail. I'm sure you probably did. I wonder if the shop left it out of place and that bracketry rubbed through the tank, or if they just overtightened it. It's possible that they did everything right, and it still sprung the leak...

I appreciate that you shared this. I learned some new tricks. 👍👍

I enjoyed watching you troubleshoot. I have 2 questions: 1a. Did you empty the tank as much as possible (via driving or running the motor) before dropping it? 1b. If so, how many gallons of fuel were in the tank prior to dropping it? 2. Around how much is a new fuel tank?

New fear unlocked: buying a used truck that has jb weld in places I don’t expect and can’t easily access.

Get an old 3"strap glue it to your tsnk and keep your rubber protector it should be golden,also i have an intermitant miss and white( raw fuel) runs like shi 💩 t then clears up.maybe a tank pickup tube cracked like yours.hard to disgnos when its intermittent...

Not sure what a new tank is worth.. But hard to tell how visible it is there, possibly get it welded up fairly reasonable

It smells like a fart when you mix it but I’ve had good results with Steel Stic. I always carry some in the truck. You were blinded by the nice polish job you did on those tanks.

the puddy was definitely the wrong choice, the 2 part epoxy would have been best.

In their defence and from my experience…..once you start to tamper with those straps on old tanks….you’ll get a leak
