Haha, well, maybe I'll have to make a video sharing the light bulb story. :)

I just watched my own video over to remember how to take apart the faucet and realized that I do tell the lightbulb story at the end of the video. So it's there if you want to hear it, lol.

Ok you know that RP50587 might have been free if you call Delta and told them what was happening. These higher end faucets are lifetime limited warranty to the original buyer. Good reason to fill out your warranty cards. I'm on my second free Valve Assembly since purchase. Yes it did take 8-10 days to ship but that was ok in my case. I'm glad you figured it out and were able to return the new Valve. Cheers

Yes, I looked into a replacement, but we didn't have proof of purchase... like you said, good reason to fill out your warranty cards!

The cartridge "bonnet nut" (the brass part) was loose. That was the cause of the drippy faucet and the "gross" stuff around the collar and handle. Torque the bonnet nut to 70-100 _inch_ pounds. It should not come out "by hand". Best is a torque wrench and 1-5/16" 6 point, deep socket. But..."pretty darn tight" will probably work. The good news? You fixed YOUR problem. The bad news? That's usually not the problem. More often the leak is caused by a worn cartridge, and the cartridge would need to be replaced. It is also a good idea to change the aerator in the spout AND the bonnet nut and "V-ring" seal at the same time. If you're going to turn it off and dissect it, you may as well do the whole thing and not have to worry.

Trim took whole thing off for me too, but not easily and I never was able to get trim off the nut. Just put it back with new cartridge and all was fine.

So what was the end result problem if you didn't replace the cartridge? Did I miss that part?
@JonMorganMadness8 ай бұрын
The problem was that the part holding in the cartridge wasn't screwed down tight enough. When I went to unscrew the cap on top of the piece holding the cartridge in (not sure what to call it), the whole think came off: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jGXKoayVetZjj6ssi=OKMgyu_Kmj8Azsj9&t=133. I then put it back together and tightened the piece more: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jGXKoayVetZjj6ssi=THL5voQRKNzraTDc&t=305. That fixed the problem for about a year. After that, it started dripping again and I ended up replacing the cartridge about 10 months ago. I haven't had it drip since.

I wonder if Delta will replace the handle that I had to drill the set screw out of because it was essentially fused to the handle body. Actually, I’m pretty sure they won’t because from what I’ve seen in the comments in every single video about leaky Delta faucets, NO ONE besides myself could not get the set screw out. Even after cleaning all around the outside and soaking in penetrating oil, and trying an easy out. It’s did not budge. I guess I need to play the lottery because I’m one in a million

If your faucet becomes “sticky” and doesn’t want to shut off, remove the cartridge and rapidly move the cartridge handle all around rapidly, flush out the cartridge with water, repeat three or four times. This breaks up the calcium and sediment in the cartilage. Restored mine to like new function.

Recommendation: Do not OVER-tighten the bonnet nut (the brass cylinder part). In case if tightening does not resolve the issue, you’re gonna have a hard time trying to loosen the bonnet nut - thus stripping off & rounding out the corners of the nut without proper tools. Believe me, that happened. 😢

Delta lifetime warranty will replace for free. Don’t spend your $35.

Took about 20 days for it to get to me from Delta but other than having to keep shuting off the water until it worked right it was worth the wait since it was free. PS, they expect it to be either registered for warranty or for you to have proof of purchase.

F Delta and their requirement to have proof of purchase. Just go buy a new faucet swap out the cartridge with the old one and return the faucet, F the big box stores for selling replacement parts for 'lifetime' faucets. This cartridge is crap, my Delta tub and shower valve has the Delta ball and rubber seat guts and the repair kit with the seats and springs is $5.00. It was $2.00 thirty years ago when I last replaced them. My Delta kitchen faucet looks similar to the $59 version without the spray house option. I purchased the $69 version with the spray hose, just to cannibalize the sprayer and hose attachment to repair a friends fancier faucet with the brushed nickel finish. It was cheaper than buying the replacement parts separately So when my faucet began to drip, I was going to use the parts from the spare faucet and repair what I thought was the old ball design, remember paying $89 for it, no way am I spending $40 for a cartridge plus tax and shipping and handling. I know nothing lasts forever and prior to this I was satisfied with Delta products because of their reliability an availability of replacement parts at a reasonable cost. I recently roughed in a Delta tub and shower valve that came complete with a trim kit and cartridge for $89. The cartridge required some adjustment because water coming out was lukewarm. I was aware of that there were two types of Delta tub and shower valve cartridges, but this was a new one and the price is almost the cost of the entire kit. Sorry Delta, not playing your game anymore, I remember buying your shower only valve and the valve body had an outlet for a spout with no plug included. The nearest store was 45 minutes away(HD), and they're out of stock of 1/2" $5 brass plugs. I was going to buy the Moen valve, but the Delta was $5 cheaper. The home owner had to wait till the next day to start closing up the wall to start tiling.
