I may have previously commented on this video; it doesn't matter. Thank you for not only showing how to fix this specific faucet, but more importantly the process of _how_ to go through this type of repair in general. The details you show, keeping track of the parts during disassembly, the caution to not lose parts or damage things help to make it easier to reassemble it and know where the new parts go and fit together. You're not just demonstrating doing it, you're explaining the how and why behind it. Add in the recommendations for tools and using them properly, and the lesson is complete! Well done!

This saved me! There are hundreds of leaky faucet videos out there, but yours is the only one that brought up that the handle can get stuck from excess build up. I thought mine was broken because the set screw cranked violently and came all the way out. Nope, it was just SUPER stuck. Some light and persistent taps and it finally came undone! I was a hair away from calling a plumber because I thought I had busted the whole thing. Thanks for the video, man! You probably saved me a few hundred bucks!

Thank you so much, Bill, for your instructions on how to fix a leaking delta kitchen faucet. I tried other online instructions but they weren't nearly as good. You are a very good teacher. You don't assume someone must already know some of it. You aren't cocky, but I suspect you are above average intelligence, because you explain everything thoroughly and are used to people not knowing everything you know. Thank you again. Mickey

I am very much a novice at plumbing repair. But your step by step, detailed instructions made it a cinch to fix the faucet that was spraying all over the place around the handle. I do not have time to call a plumber or call Delta and wait for the parts since we have company coming to stay in the guest room for Thanksgiving. I can't believe that I fixed it myself by replacing the parts I bought from the hardware store. Thank you so much.

Thank you soooo much! I was able to fix my mom’s old Delta 150 series kitchen faucet. Thanks to your advice, I was able to get all the parts from Delta free (except the steel ball assembly, which they either forgot or it’s not a covered part). Anyway, after I purchased the ball assembly separately, I cleaned the faucet and replaced the parts exactly as in your video. Everything is perfect now. I appreciate your no-nonsense video, with its clear concise instructions. No endless self-aggrandizing intro headers with annoying music….perfect!

Thank you SO MUCH! After several fails and a couple of frustrating hours, I figured out to put the small end of the spring in the hole first, then the seal over the large end, just the way the old one was. That was the only way I could get the seals to seat so it didn’t leak.

Thanks ! i just changed my delta washers on my kitchen faucet using your video which was the best among the ones I've seen on KZbin. The hardest parts was removing the chrome cap after the handle was off because my model did not have slots for a wrench so i had to use a vice grip but it wouldn't budge at first but then someone explained to me i probably overtightened the wise grip and sure enough i just remove the cap with my fingers 🙂The other part more difficult was when everything was in place before putting the chrome cap back on. I had to use a screw driver to push everything in place that also left the part in its groove. It took 2 tries but I got it ! Turn the water back on and all is great and no more dripping !!! It was driving me nuts LOL

Thank you so much - once I patiently applied WD40 and a compressed air shot to the allen screw( a few applications over over a few days), everything was a cinch thanks to your instructions. One thing, as you and others have noted be sure and use original Delta Parts. A top local store's brand of repair parts just did not fit right and were a waste of time. The Delta Parts were a smooth operation and the faucet is just as new.

Your video was a lifesaver, Bill. My kitchen sink has no shutoff valves so a mistake would have meant no water to the entire house. I wondered about all the plumber's grease, and after I finished the handle would not stay up. But once I wiped the grease off the ball, the thing worked prefectly.

Thank you Bill! I'm about to replace a 40 year old Moen kitchen faucet with a brand new Delta Classic. (Or rather, a plumber is about to replace the faucet, since there are no hot/cold water shut off valves, which need to be installed, and that's way beyond my ability to deal with.) But looking ahead I wanted to be able to know how to fix any leaks that will inevitably occur down the road. I saw replacement kits on Amazon but after watching this video I'll just contact Delta since the faucet comes with a lifetime warranty. But people said there are no instructions that come with these kits, so I searched on KZbin (what would we do without KZbin instructional videos?) and found this one. It's perfect. Much appreciated. Be well.

@@SparkyChannel Thanks. 1 quick question: How wide do the jaws of the adjustable wrench need to be able to open to work with the nut on this faucet? (i.e. will 1.5" be wide enough, or does it need to be bigger? I know they should be smooth jaws, just not sure how wide.)

YaY-Hey!! You Have Really Helped Me Out!! Had a 'handyman' help with this and he did such a lousy job!! Didn't grease almost anything, left the white plastic ring at the bottom of neck of the faucet!! I did it All over again. Only had trouble with the grey cam, not staying down, it kept wanting to spring on up. I held it down and put the chrome cap on tightened it carefully! But not too tight. Faucet swings back and forth a Lot better than when the guy 'fixed' it! Guess if you want something done, do it yourself or look for Sparky to help me out! Thank You Ever So Much! Very good explanation on how to repair a leaky faucet. One thing I would caution viewers on is to be careful not to score the ball seat with the screwdriver. I would use something like my Dremel tool with a brass wire brush attachment for that part of the job. I also thought it might be a good idea to put a little plumbers grease on the outside of the two rubber inserts before reinstalling them in the housing.

Just a heads up the newer faucets have a plastic cartridge. There should be a tag on the supply line with a model number and manufacture date. Was able to call and get a free replacement cartridge by calling Delta. Great concise no nonsense tutorial! Thank you!

Outstanding video. However, here's a suggestion I learned from doing this fix. When reassembling parts, do NOT use a wrench to tighten the top cap (fancy nut). Just tighten that nut finger tight, and maybe give it another 1/4 twist with a wrench. Wrenching the nut down like a gorilla forces the ball against the (concave) mating surface and it rubs. First time: I firmly wrenched down that nut until it was snug and the faucet developed a slow drip - drip - drip, after final assembly in closed position - moving handle slightly off center seemed to stop drip. Also, I could feel a slight "drag" when moving the lever around, in certain positions, indicating something was rubbing. I disassembled it again and noticed the 2 rubber washers (seats) were flush with the hole, instead of protruding slightly, indicating the ball was pressing against the body. After reassembling I tightened the nut hand tight. There was still a tiny drip drip. I then retightened it by hand with about a 1/5 or 1/4 additional turn with a wrench. There was still approx. 1/8" gap between the (lower) edge of the nut and (upper) edge of spout assembly. If you keep cranking the nut tighter and tighter, that space will disappear until both edges touch. The first time I did this, it seemed normal to crank until the space disappeared and the nut was tight. (Like you would with typical threaded plumbing pressure pipe.) But in this case it seems a little more finesse is needed. Just my 2 cents.

Called Delta. They sent me the wrong part. I wanted the rubber seals/springs and they sent me the cam assbly. The "customer service" rep had no idea what I was talking about. I bought the correct part on Amazon. Good job Delta! Previously they sent me a replacement handle that was so poorly machined that it didn't secure to the ball. I bought a Home Depot handle that doesn't match cosmetically but it works! Delta needs to get it together and have people that understand their products and not just answer the phone!

@@SparkyChannel Thanks for your excellent instructional video, it was very thorough and left nothing unanswered. I didn't replace the spout O rings since I have a pull out faucet sprayer and It wasn't yet needed and it would have complicated things more than I wanted to deal with. The leak has stopped and the handle is working smoothly. I have no need to replace the faucet so I'll stick with my Delta since I now know how to fix it. Thanks again.

Hi you are the best! Had a delta faucet leaking around the base when turned on and the spout and base parts were easy to take off, exposing the o rings. Your intro prompted me to call delta who was VERY nice and helpful. They will send me an oring kit for free this time (prob b/c Im not the original owner) and I was able to stop the leak with some teflon tape for now. Liked and subbed!

@@SparkyChannel Bill, Funny story: The parts in my faucet look IDENTICAL to the one in your video except for a "974-012 DIVERTER DEFLECTOR" that fell out of the spout supply hole when I removed the spout assembly. OK. I already had the Danco parts before I saw your video and heard your recommendation to get only OEM parts free from Delta and I did not get the kit with the new ball as I had looked at it and it seemed and felt fine, no rough spots etc., still mirror bright and I believe I had replaced it a few years ago. Well I otherwise followed your great instruction to a T and after putting it back together (with out a DIVERTER DEFLECTOR, I don't think it makes a difference) it seemed fine except the handle had to be in a pretty specific spot for it not to drip. Well I lived with it for a couple weeks and decided I would follow your advice and call delta and get OEM parts. I called and if 20-25 years old like my faucet with no paperwork, they ask you to take a picture to send. I did and the rep could not ID my faucet and asked me to look at the backside and see if there were any markings. There were markings and they clearly said Price Pfister Classic! Dang! OK. Called Price Pfister (800-732-8238) and they do exactly the same as Delta and will send you the parts. Parts are on the way and I will still use your fine video to remind me exactly how to install. Thanks again, my boo boo had nothing to do with you! Reminder to all out there to not ASSUME just because the parts look identical, that they are. I used a mirror to see the back and get the actual OEM name. 👍👍

Hey Bill, Well I got the OEM parts from Price Pfister, but had other projects going so I put the install off. 9 months later it is still put off🤣 Seems that "the handle had to be in a pretty specific spot for it not to drip" was not as big a deal, as that spot became easy to find over time. Hope I can still find the parts from PP! When I do, I will still come back to your great video for another refresher, and I'm sure it will work perfectly. Thanks again! 👍👍@@SparkyChannel

What a great and helpful video, Bill! Thank you so much for taking the time to do this. This was a huge help. Question: when I got to the seat and spring step, I could find only one, the left, is it possible that the faucet has worked with only one seat since 2022, the last time I repaired it? I am an auto mechanic, and I know that it’s not good to have parts left over. We never had any difficulty with the faucet until it began leaking intermittently recently. Thank you!
