I just found your video a week ago. I have the same model number washer. We notice that our clothes were not getting as clean as before. So, doing some research I found your video. I bypassed the door lock to see the washer in action and saw the same thing that you filmed. Pretty easy job. We had our washer for 6y now and it's a beast, we love it. With a family of four, (2 boys) it really gets a work out. This is the first problem we've had with it. Since the part is plastic, I ordered 2 of them. At $10 a piece I have a spare. If you keep it you will enjoy it. Nothing beat a top-loader with a good agitator. Thank you for posting the video.

Thanks for this video. We had a weird noise gradually build up over a few days during the wash cycle. Seemed like something stuck under the agitator. Your video made removing it a piece of cake and we found a fist-sized clump of debris under there, which we removed, and all was well. Thanks. By the way, we used some stiff plastic strips cut from a plastic food container to hold back the tabs on the intermediate 4-tab cover as we pried them back one at a time. It made removing that cover fairly straight forward.

I just replaced my 3rd one on the same washer. I noticed this piece is the same as the non-commercial washers, go figure. Currently looking for a more robust hub. I think I'll clean the threads up on the metal part a little better this time. Overall happy with the washer, this is the only issue ive had.

@DuctTapeMechanic Update: replaced the part and 2 weeks later I thought it broke again. The belt had slipped off and I found the bolt on the shaft pulley had come loose. It has probably been loose for a long time. If you raise the washer and prop it up, remove the bottom cover, and check the bolt on the pulleys. Hope this helps.

Great video!! My brand new Maytag washer isn't washing good and during the wash cycle I can't even hear the agitator swooshing the clothes around. And I still had mud on the bottom of some jeans. How would I know if the agitator is even working at all?
@DuctTapeMechanic Жыл бұрын
One way to test the agitator is to take the striker off the lid and insert it into the lid lock mechanism (effectively bypassing it). Then, when the washer goes into the wash cycle, you can open the lid and take a look. This should only be done for diagnostic purposes as bypassing the lid lock is a safety issue.

I would definitely keep this one for myself. Also, the agitator seems to do a much better job than the newer impellers. I have had a front-load, which did a great job cleaning clothes, an impeller (that cost a LOT of money) that did not clean clothes at all well and now I have opted for an older Maytag with the agitator and am very happy with it. It sacrifices clothes capacity but I prefer my clothes to be clean when the cycle is completed. 🙂

I agree. Agitator is the way to go. I have sat there and watched some of the washers with just the washplate wash cloth and became skeptical of how they would handle really dirty cloth.

I watch this video every 6 months to replace that darn part. I love my washer I just hate how this part always goes bad. The part that you say is hard to come out we do have a simple solution… we take the flat head to each tab then shove a butter knife in it. Once you have the 4 knives in it you squeeze them all inward and it pops right off with the other hand. Again thank you for the video and we do watch it every 6 months because I always forget the size bolt.

It sounds like the spines on your transmission shaft are a bit bent. I have heard that they make a metal version of the hub (perhaps it is something to look at the next time this issue occurs)

Could you do a video with how to retrieve a lost item from this washer please? I lost an earring in the small holes in the bottom
@eugenespecht76510 ай бұрын
Thanks for the video it is exactly what was wrong with my same washer as the one in your video. One thing I did find when I had it apart was that the splines on the transmission shaft are rusted badly. I'm sure that this is what caused the plastic female splines to be worn away. In my opinion once the male metal splines are crowded the plastic female splines will be gone again in the not to distance future, The sad part is the only way to fix it right is a new shaft and that means a new transmission because it looks like the transmission is not repairable.
@DuctTapeMechanic10 ай бұрын
Yes, a lot of times, this is caused by the spines of the transmission shaft. They make a metal hub now, but I'm not sure how well that will hold up. It's probably slightly better than the plastic one.

When putting it back together there’s a black rubber gasket that I’m not sure exactly where it goes. Does it go over the agitator teeth? I can see the teeth present in your video but the gasket covers mine unless I’m putting it back in the wrong spot?

The reason this washer had stripped gears is because it's been overloaded used on the normal setting because you could see the ring around the stainless steel basket instead of using the deep fill settings.

Hello. Your videos are very helpful and easy to understand which I appreciate greatly. Your video is the only video I’ve came across that actually shows the problem that mine is showing. I have a Kenmore 80s series. It’s doing the exact thing here in the video minus the buzzing/humming sound. I have pulled agitator out and replaced the dogs because I’ve seen where people said that could’ve been the problem but it’s not. I watched the video you said that covers it for a Kenmore but mine doesn’t have a basket drive hub under the bottom half of the agitator so I’m at a loss for what to do, can you explain where this would be on the Kenmore version?
@DuctTapeMechanic8 ай бұрын
Hi. Is your kenmore 80 series washer not agitating at all but spinning ok? Just trying to get a better idea of what's going on
@MissCoupons8 ай бұрын
@@DuctTapeMechanic Yes sir, exactly. It’s like the agitator won’t spin forward clockwise enough to catch and then spin again like it’s supposed to. It only spins half an inch back and forth, but stays doing that in the same place it starts so it’s not really spinning at all and there’s absolutely no actual agitation happening. It’ll do it if I do it manually with my hand so that’s how I know it does catch and does not spin counterclockwise. The actual barrel of the washing machine spins perfectly fine when it gets to the spin part of the cycle and isn’t off balanced or anything. I tipped it over and I don’t see any frayed pieces of belt so I don’t think it’s the belt. Only thing I think it could be that I’ve come across watching in videos is the coupler and that doesn’t seem to be broken either from getting under there and looking at it/spinning it. Any ideas as to what you think it is greatly appreciated! 🙏🏼
