Good fix. I converted a Craftsman with primer to auto choke. Had a spare, but bad engine in the hoard. You will need all the parts from the donor motor. Muffler and bolts, thermostat assembly, rod, carb, spring, etc. Man is it sweet now. Just turn the key, three blades and it fires up. Not bad for a curb find. Only have $65.00 in it, and $40.00 of that was a new battery and charger.

Good info in the video. However, I have a question. Inside the cavity that the bowl bolt screws into, there are 2 small holes. What does each do? On my carb (sim to yours) I can only run a wire through the one with brass bushing. The other hole just "bottoms out". Doesn't seem to have an "exit" inside the carb body. I can't understand why the carb would have a 2nd hole, but not do anything. I've tried to spray carb cleaner through that hole, but it (cleaner) doesn't go anywhere. Just backs up cleaner tube until I release pressure and then shoots cleaner back out of same hole. The one with brass bushing exits into throttle body of carb. Any ideas on what 2nd hole function is? After rebuild, I put the carb back on engine and everything "seems" to work okay.....although I do get a little "engine pulsing" until engine warms up, but other than that, it seems to work okay. Just curious?? Thanks much.......

@hanksgarage_4 жыл бұрын
Replace the thermostat. Link is in description. 👍
@briansjersey14 жыл бұрын
@@hanksgarage_ the thermostat works perfectly. The arm moves forward as it warms up and goes back when it cools down. Whatever controls the linkage rod and tugs on the throttle keeps going up & down. I can hold it in a good position and it runs smooth, but as soon as I take my finger off of it, the surging starts right up. I read somewhere else to test for a vac leak with some carb cleaner, since it has a new carb and with gasket and o ring it may be the manifold gasket?
@hanksgarage_4 жыл бұрын
that’s possible as well
@andyhamilton89404 жыл бұрын
See if your head bolts are loose. That arm is govener. Its trying to keep the engine from stalling. Low compression will cause hard starts and surging.

Also in changing the oil I put a whole quart in (I thought it would stop me when it was full but it never did). Now that all the excess oil has leaked out what should I worry about? Thanks for the video.
@hanksgarage_7 жыл бұрын
you need to make sure the proper amount of oil is in the mower, and may need to take out the plug and clear all the oil out if it got past the rings. Should only take 20 oz of oil or so. When a mower wont start it is almost always the carburetor needs to be cleaned out.

I can't access a computer at the moment, I use for craftsman Sears replacement parts site to find the part numbers, they have exploded parts diagrams. Key your mowers model number into the search bar and it should take you to it, you will have to go to the carb diagram to find the part number for the rebuild kit. Key that into Amazon or eBay and there you go. You can also use that part number at your local mower shop to buy it locally. Generally the carb kits are universal so they will include more parts than you actually need.
