I use Speedi Sleeves on pretty much every shaft seal I replace. A good tip is to use green Locktite sleeve retainer under it to fill in any grooves or passages under the sleeve where oil might leak, and to use SKF seals. I've always had leaks using National.

Kyle Sonsalla I have a 94 e 150 5.0 with a stubborn rear main seal leak. Where can I find a Speedi sleeve for motor? Who sells them?
@bttr2brnout79210 ай бұрын
Used one of those sleeves on my 5.8..They say not to use any sealer...It still leaked...Took it back apart and put sealer on it. No longer leaks.

Did my motor about 6 months ago... already had to do my rear main seal. I know a guy who worked at Ford back in the day for 20+ years in the AOD side. He knows his way around the T5 as well. He told me to grease it up on the inside. still no leak. Anything he says, I do it.

Nice never thought of that.

Grease up the part of the seal that faces the motor? What kind of grease?
@The_pipeliner5 жыл бұрын
Those definitely work well. I’ve used them a few times when freshening up a motor and machine work was out of the question. Almost all remanufactured “factory” cranks come with that sleeve already in place. I believe ford should have done a 2-piece seal with these little motors.
@LynnTwinCustoms5135 жыл бұрын
Dang I didn’t know these existed either. When I did my rear main it had the groove I just smacked the rear main a smidge further in to ride on fresh crank and it hasn’t leaked in 5,000 miles so far so good lol
@Neomustangs5 жыл бұрын
Ya they all end up leaking eventually its just the seal cutting a ring literally In the back side of crank.

Faaack. Got a week out of it before the dribble. Even used a microsleeve. Driving season now. Wait till winter again. Rms on these cars are the bane of my existence.

@@Neomustangs Worst part is the motor was pulled and I re sealed everything!!! Speedi sleeved the front one. No leaks anywhere. I actually like the speedi sleeve brand better. But you need pan off and engine upside down to tear the lip off of it properly. The microsleeve/felpro sleeve, even with the tool, is very hard to get installed with no wrinkles. Took me a few tries. I never used any loc tite on it as it wasn't recommended. So maybe oil is getting between it. Engine has 200,000 kms on it. Maybe its got a bit of crank walk or blow by too which doesn't help things.
@CarlGerhardt14 ай бұрын
It could be possible that engines that keep blowing seals may have clogged or under capacity PCV systems. If there is too much internal pressure the crankcase gases will try to come out though the seals or gaskets.

Great tip. Thank you; Could you please be a little more clear about the name of the part, part number, and source for the part ? Again, great tip. I appreciate it
They make those sleeves to fit harmonic balancers also

Where have you been bro I've known about this for a while, lol. Anyway, you mentioned it fixed the leak on your 351 for a while. Why did it start to leak again? Also do you run a catch can on your turbo 351? How about a video on setting up a catch can for a small block Ford? I blew my rear main seal before I even got to the dyno. Only after that I put a vent on each valve cover. It was a brand new crank. I switched my setup around still Turbo though. Brand new crank again. I'm looking around for videos on properly venting the small block Ford so I don't blow the seal again. It's a very controversial thing, whether or not you need a catch can. I just don't want to blow the rear main seal again. Do you have such a video or do you plan on making one? Also do you have any check valves in your vacuum system? Thanks

Just google it man. Pretty self explanatory. I have a cheap ebay catch can on mine and it works fine. You can use a pop bottle too.

I’ve always used rtv on the seal OD, never tried one of these but it sounds like you recommend it. Did any of that oil end up on the clutch?
@Neomustangs5 жыл бұрын
NO oil on clutch but it wasn't the fact it had oil or debris on it, just didn't hold well under load. Centerforce Plates are light footed but they are also not very good at holding load. Now when you put a spec stage 2 or higher with an organic disc things change !
