Another unnecessarily long "repair" video, in which I try and get a Sony PS-LX56P record player to work, even though I don't have the original hi-fi which it was part of. In case you can't be bothered to watch the video, here's what I learned:
1) You need a pre-amp (there was one built into the original hi-fi).
2) You need a 12V DC power supply (mine was 1500mA and worked fine).
3) You need to cut off the connectors from both the record player's power input and the 12V supply, then solder them together.
4) The markings on the Sony power input are counter-intuitive. The wire with a white marking on appears to be the ground, while the black wire is positive. If you connect it backwards, the record player will spin very fast in the wrong direction, but it doesn't seem to harm it.
The music at the end of the video is by No Violet noviolet.bandcamp.com/
(The music in the rest of the video is by me, just to avoid confusion)
