Potholes so bad it felt like Moguls on ski hill. Plus we test a new attachment for the skid steer to see what it can do.

I had no experience with building a road when I bought my property and built my house on it. It was swampy loamy soil. I got it leveled and then dumped tons and tons of 3 1/2 minus down. After a couple of years and a few more layers worked in the base was stable and we didn't sink into the ground. Topped with road gravel it's now very smooth and level and never muddy. I use a rake on my M5 Kubota for maintenance. I enjoyed watching you have fun!

Hey Stanley I grew up the same way! Dirt. Poor son of a contractor. Most kids played with Tonka toys I grew up running dozers and other heavy equipment since eight years old . On most ranch roads once finished we rolled the roads with a 6 yard dump loaded. We found neumatic rubber tires compacted better than steel rollers . They were also faster than a conventional steel roller on long ranch roads! Thank you for the candid honesty and non- biast review of the machine! I see the potential for yard work . But I prefer a small dozer or motor grader for road finishing. Overall for that job the power rake did a good job on the job. Without bringing in additional larger equipment! Adding to the job cost! Great review!

Literally 8" minus pit run, onto solid rock (Canadian Shield), then into mud, muskeg and back to sections of pit run ......... and that is provincial secondary highway!!!! ......had lots of fun over the years building and fixing roads. Tool looks pretty good for the application you used it in ..... nice to tune up a driveway with some base for sure .. love the videos - keep them coming. Always cool to see other guys just like me doing our thing in their neck of the woods.

@johnnysouza5601

You're right. Sometimes the only way to tell when it first goes out is to have it running and get out and look at it. With a skid steer I wouldn't do that by myself since the only way out is right over the top of it. So if you're on a job site by yourself it can be tricky or almost impossible. I've worked in agriculture for most of my life and I'm very familiar with those bearings. If an employee isn't greasing them like they're supposed to the dirt will start building up in there which will destroy them. Some implements it easy to tell when they go out just from sight and sound others you don't know until you tear it apart or when it causes more damage. Pretty cool they thought about that and didn't just do it the way everyone else does. Seems like they're truly keeping customers in mind.

The one thing I know about power rakes from watching this is how much my parents could've used one back in the day before our driveway was paved. We wouldn't have needed all of the #2A limestone brought in over the years. Otherwise we would've used a land plane after some rain for a less aggressive approach. Felt as if I just watched each of Tim's episodes where he was doing something with a driveway and used a power rake, land plane, and a drag harrow.

Nice job and great for proximity. If you did many of these road service jobs, a vibratory compactor for the skid steer really improves durability, especially is the road base has some moisture content. I give customers the option, as I need to rent a unit. I'd own one if I could keep it moving daily. Most folks will opt for compaction the second time around.

i graded my staynat driveway a couple weeks ago. had some galleys forming in the middle and sides of the road due to rain erosion. i tried to back drag with the bucket (i have a 1026R John Deere tractor) but it just wasn't cooperating, as a wheel woudl go into a rut and the bucket would scrape at a beard angle. so instead i opted for the dig, drop, and smooth operations, where i pushed the bucket into the road to dig it up, then set the dug up material at the top and then back drag it smooth. i woudl LOVE a power rake like you have though, but, it turned out great with plenty of compaction and bucket smoothing. i just Wish there was a way to dynamically tilt the bucket side to side to account for the crown one needs to make in the road. ahh, well, i can't dream at least. i try and re-grade one a year or so or as needed. i woudl prefer pavement, but got to solve the drainage issues first. haha. but, that's what one gets living in Vermont surrounded by mountains, and living on its slopes lol. that's why im building terraces. makes things that much easier lol...

great video I enjoy seeing you test equipment and attachments. I cringe at some because being a heavy duty mechanic I see repairs coming from abuse. I certainly see a use for an attachment like that power rake. I’m guessing the tines till the top 1 1/2-2 inches allowing it to be smoothed and evened out. A steel drum roller on that would compact it nicely. That looked easy enough with no rocks to deal with. Out here in California the eastern Sierra mountains I don’t see that attachment being usable to fix up a road due to to much granite rock. But in the part of the country you reside in y’all have fewer rocky roads to deal with.
