Do this at your own risk, it worked for me, just sharing what I did to break this knife in ..in only a few minutes. Use caution and be safe.

This worked a treat on my ZT 0450. Had it for years now, but seldom carried it due to the detent issue. Sometimes it would deploy normally but often I would be forced to use my thumb instead of forefinger, to generate enough force to open the knife. Occasionally, I'd even have to give it a few hard taps on my palm to get it deployed. Thank you so very much!!!

Today is March 22, 2017. Received a ZT0630CF with M390. It was a total turn off cause the detent was so Fucking strong it wouldn't even open with one hand. After I watched your video I tried it and this worked perfectly for me👌🏼. So thumbs up and thanks so much - this made my ZT perfect like my others. 👍🏻

Thanks Swordsman! I have a 0452CF that has had a really stiff detent since new, and after probably thousands of flips it hadn't broken in. Gave her a squeeze based on your vid, and voila, now I don't have to bruise my finger on the flipper stud to open it. Now I can actually enjoy my expensive knife. I believe that the original problem is actually the ball not being seated fully to begin with.

brianm263 awesome glad to help. I sold mine a few weeks ago but it was a damn good knife

Great vid ive got a 0620 myself. I thought that the shake deployment made it a gravity knife and thus illegal (at least in nc). Glad its not just mine that does it

YEAH just did this to my ZT0456 and bam! Still locks up nice when closing but fly's open now with very little effort on the flipper. Out of the box it was killing me as pressing the flipper to get it to open was so hard it was eating up my finger and causing the pocket clip to dig into me. Appreciate the great tip!

Well it totally made sense, gentle pressing/testing a few times and BAM. I cannot believe how incredible the knife functions now, too easy! I really appreciate your vid! Saw one guy send his to ZT for the same reason am I'm betting all ZT did was this because it works!

This worked great on my ZT0609. Just a slight squeeze with the channel locks and I can now open the knife. Previously I was hurting my finger just to flip open.

Thanks for your vid. I have the version of this knife with the carbon fiber scales. It also has always been stiff to open. It never occurred to me, and I don't have the knife in front of me now, that there appears to be a screw adjustment of some kind right there where the detent ball is. I'm going to just try to give that a slight turn to see if it will loosen up a bit and make it easier to open. If so, there's no need to try squeezing or hammering anything. Now watch, I'll go look at the knife and there'll be no screw or allen-type slot there at all. LOL

eqlzr2 did it work?

Unfortunately, as I recall, the screw is not for the detent ball. It is for the replaceable tip on the framelock bar. Again, as I recall. I don't have the knife in front of me right now.

I have the 0630 and 0620 in carbon fiber and theyve always been so smooth. Can finger flick it no problem. Purchased a g10 0630 and it was a different story. Thing eats pieces of my nail every attempt.

You're not a true knife guy until you've gotten a sore thumb from flipping it all the time.

Received my 0630 today and also impossible to open one handed. I’m going to take it apart and see what’s up.

Time is your friend when breaking in a knife. Over time that detent ball will wear into the track and polish it, smoothing the action.
@brianm2636 жыл бұрын
I agree about the break-in for most knives, however having one of these with the problem, this issue goes deeper than that. On mine, the detent ball was hanging on the detent hole way too much with no signs of reducing even after thousands of open/close cycles. I believe the detent ball was not fully seated at assembly because after a quick squeeze, my knife flips open beautifully and reliably.

Does the pliers have to be Craftsman?

Just a note, I made a couple of very small dents in my blade steel by doing this. Not noticeable while flipping or normal closing, but if you close the blade slowly with two hands you can barely feel it. I feel like i am really picky and it honestly doesn't bother me. But if you are going to try this it might be worth it to open the knife and squeeze the ball with something other than the blade.
@carsonteague72426 жыл бұрын
brianm263 the exact same thing happen to me except now when the knife is in the closed position there is about an 1/8th inch of play in and out of the handle, not side to side , considering sending it in or something. it’s not enough to make the tip stick out of the handle and it still waves and flips out like normal, just bothers me
@chucknicholson76472 жыл бұрын
Did you use “Craftsman” pliers?

Just bend the lockbar out some
@dant82137 жыл бұрын
isn't that ball supposed to spin in there as the blade opens and closes? just wondering if this could possibly mess the ball up and make it not so smooth after the detent unlocks?...Just a thought before I tried it because mine is impossible to open 1 handed as well. if that ball is just a stationary thing I guess it wouldn't matter if it got pressed in there but I'm not sure.. any thoughts?

This worked for a Kershaw Emerson that had the same issue and hadn’t worn in after three years of daily carry and use. Work slowly or you can easily overcorrect. Great video! Thanks!
@jeffstange91833 жыл бұрын
detent ball is a harder steel than the blade steel, run the risk of putting slight ball dents in blade
