I almos fell from the chair from laughing when I found out I had forgotten to peel the dticker on my Fuma 2 cooler. Thankfully, I was using a carbon pad, so it was very easy to fix. I've built around 10 systems or so by now, so I'm confident I at least know all the basics, and even I forgot that once, so it can happen to anyone.

I'd like to see some testing. "Doing nothing" is way exaggerated imo, it's not like some tiny piece of plastic insulates 100%. Chances are, the user didn't even notice anything was wrong.

I updated a BIOS once without checking the weather network. Not 2 seconds after I hit Enter to start the process did I hear a Thunderclap. Went over to the window to unfurl the blinds expecting daylight... I saw the nastiest, tornado supercell generating angry swirling clouds in the sky. The next 27 minutes where some of the most intense, nail biting moments of my life. Power held strong and BIOS updated successfully allowing me to use my at the time new Club 3D royalQueen Radeon R9 280X 3GB. What an adventure that was!

Everytime I see someone on Facebook saying that they plan on updating a 1000/2000 series CPU to a 5000 series I ALWAYS comment to tell them to update the BIOS while they still have the old CPU. I'm glad that bios flashback is part of the spec on the AM5 platform although I'd prefer it to be mandatory and not just a recommendation for the board manufacturers.

Probably someone already mentioned this but on the website of the motherboard there's a compatibility tab that will tell which BIOS revision is needed to make the CPU you want to install work, even if it's not listed in the actual BIOS revision notes. I know picking the last non beta one is the right thing to do in most cases anyway, but just wanted to add this.

I did just this a couple of weeks ago switching out a 3200g for a 4500 on a A320 motherboard. Spent three to four hours trying different things. Great video. A couple of other channels actually tested what happened if you left the plastic sticker on the cold plate. Surprisingly, while not ideal, on CPU's with low to mid level TDP's, it didn't cause a real issue. The temps were higher, but it was by a small enough amount that it wouldn't have been easily apparent.

I had basically this exact problem myself recently, but all the places I could get around to on short notice let me down and were unwilling and/or unable to just loan me a processor for twenty minutes to update the BIOS on-site so it fell to getting one myself, using it for the update, then using the original processor. A real annoyance, and insult to injury is I chose to not return the second processor, have nothing to do with it, and am not liable to get it sold so I'm just sitting on it indefinitely, I guess. Blast any motherboard that can't update the BIOS without a processor. Further salt in the wound is I'm pretty sure one of the places quoted a price to deal with it that was barely cheaper than buying the second processor, so if I were to sell it at a discount I'd still come out better than if I had left the tower with them for multiple days to have them do something that I ended up doing myself in like, probably less than an hour once I had the necessary component.

I'm on an Asus ROG Strix B450 F Gaming II, and I went from a R7 2700 to an R5 5600 with no BIOS flash required. I made sure it supported the CPU without flash before I bought it. It's weird, but I've been computing since Win 98 SE, and I've never flashed a BIOS. I've always been terrified to do it because way back then it was kind of an expert only thing, and one could easily brick the board. Even though things have gotten a lot easier, and simpler, it's still one of those primordial fears that keeps me from doing it, lol.

Just had this issue not even two weeks ago. ASUS TUF Gaming X570 Plus paired with an AMD 5600G. There are debug LEDs on the mobo. We would get an amber light and nothing else. This is supposed to indicate a DRAM issue, but I knew from watching these what it was. Using the sticker on the motherboard we were able to determine it was shipped with a 1407 BIOS which was incompatible with the 5000 series. We ended up buying a 3300X just so we could update the BIOS to the latest version. Lo and behold, that was the problem. However, if my friend would have waited, AMD does offer a loaner kit with a CPU so users can update their BIOS if their board doesn't come with flashback. Goodness knows how long it takes to get one of those. But they are free so long as AMD can verify the BIOS sticker on the motherboard as being incompatible.

I love those little cases , cooler master, master box Q300L. The Thermaltake Core V21 is another one of my favorite mATX cases. It can clear a 180mm tall tower cooler. So even the tallest Noctua tower coolers will fit. BTW, that is a nice build. The Ryzen 4500 & 5500 offer excellent performance for the price. Don't be afraid of them. But maybe use an A520 motherboard so you won't have first boot bios issues.

Gamer's Nexus slammed it, but if you're throwing low power components in or not doing anything intensive it's a fine enough little case and reasonably modular. I got its Q500L counterpart for like $30 after rebates since it's about as compact as can still fit an ATX board to set up an old system as a spare PC.

Hey Greg my computer was working Sunday, but now it won't turn on I tried clearing cmos. Also tried just trying one dim it didn't work. My motherboard background lights work, also my light for Ethernet cable works. But nothing looked at my cables but they look good. Do I need need motherboard or PSU replacement?!

I left the label on a Deepcool ak620 air cooler yesterday. Surprisingly even after playing fortnite with Hardware monitor running the cpu didn't reach 60c.

When you said " some of you may know already what it might be..." I honestly guessed BIOS issue. That's the first time I guessed it ( although you gave a clue) 🤣
