@@RMJ1984 Well, with the fire spread on, the city just end up having getting caught on fire and possibly wasting lots of fire department around the area, and kinda ruins the city all the time and kinda makes it boring whenever Biffa sees the fire all the time so with the fire spread off, Biffa can focus on the city more without having to see fire everywhere

I suggestested this fix when your Alzatraz island was built, and will post the same possible fix: There is a couple of things you can do to change/improve the traffic there. 1. Ban all vehicles except city service, police, ambulances and busses in the tunnel under the sea. 2. Change ferries pathway so it connects to the other side at the double ferry station named Hibiscus tea transfer. There are two stops, only one used. People can transfer from there. 3. Place either a cargo harbour in the harbour area on the mainland, or use the cargo barges to transfer cargo. Now people uses the ferries, cargo via cargo barges or ship, prisoners via underground tunnel.

Or make it so trucks and cars are banned off bus lanes in tmpe and make the whole tunnel a bus lane. But yes, I agree with you. It would force people onto public transport and the tunnel traffic would be very minimal.

In an earlier video, Biffa mentioned he wants that to connect to the next highway junction. But I do agree that taking it to meet the arterial road would be better either way.

35:00 There is enough room, Biffa. Simply change the rail setup. Make the inner rails straight and let the outer rails join on the inner ones. And tada, there is your room.

That would also make it possible to put in a switch right at the throat of the station, making it possible to have trains from all platforms go either way.

40:20 I think the Hugo there bit means buses can't get into the bus/taxi stop unless they come out of the train station parking lot. 41:18 I think the Hugo there bit means anyone coming out of there will now have to go to the prison island? Well, that got moved, but they might still need to go down and turn around in the new roundabout at the end of the cargo port?

Plus there is still nothing to stop cars coming from the direction of the monorail station from turning right into the train station car park, thus blocking oncoming traffic

Plus still didnt fixed the lanes coming from the roundabout on the highway exit, so ppl cannot turn to the amusement park and uses that road to turn back ;)

The problem here is a road segment further down is too short, which is making the trucks stop. Changing the junction restriction would've solved it much faster and easier

That whole industrial area had me asking many, many questions. So many short blocks and tons of intersections and turns for no good reason. Easy-through access or even one-way streets would be so much more effective.

@@jefffinkbonner9551 my industry ares always have one way roads. Using biffas lane mathematics starting at 3 lanes and forking out from there never merging back on like a loop. Works best

At the 13 minute mark: May I suggest more local bus lines and an express bus line between districts? Since the majority is "driving" to the nearest major train station, it's also advised to create a quick up-down bus line between key points of the district to/from the nearest train station. As for the districts between two train stations, make a busline that links from station A through the two districts to station B and back (kinda like a loop, but not exactly as a loop). This way you don't have to build extra roads for people to drive on. And if you feel the urge to use the metro - link any form of other modes of public transport to metro. Align it perpendicular or across with existing routes for a bigger reach.

Long bus routes really screw with the flow in this game. You are MUCH better off having small local bus routes that collect people and only take them to ONE station for your mass transit. If you have a bus line running in parallel with your other higher capacity mass transit, they will almost always prefer the bus - which is counter-productive. It's a game, not real life. Either someone needs to write a mod to fix it, or you play within the game mechanics. I dunno why all the KZbinrs want to create these humungous bus lines - it's baffling.

@@DocNo27 I feel like a simple fix would be to simply control the ticket prices of each individual transport option. And then let the citizen weigh between fastes + cheapest routes.

@@Vulcano7965 There are a number of ways you could simulate it - unfortunately the game isn't that detailed in this aspect of it's simulation, so the best way to avoid the issue is to not design bus routes that expose it :)

19:00 While the dedication to roundabouts is appreciated , you could have just had the exit to the highway on the other side of the off ramp …21:00 just make a real highway interchange see yumbltv or something similar. 33:00 the map highway interchange needs to be lane managed, but works great, there also another highway access right next to it that makes that area very accessible.

40:36 So busses from the right of the screen need to go through the railway stations parking lot to reach the lane that allows them to reach that bus road (with the next stop on it)? I think your lane connectors are escalating a little bit.

As the road to the island was just a necessary “cheat’ so the island does not needs to be self sufficient and the prison cars can get to the main islands I think it would be reasonable to simply ban privat vehicles on that road. Also within your industry area I would check the warehouses it looked like one warehouse is connected to the road attached to the roundabout.

40:28 I think you blocked buses from going to the bus stop on the left and now they need to go through the train station to get there. Similar situation at 41:20, you forced cars that were coming from the hub to go through the barge harbour to go further the main road. But yet the whole episode was great to watch as always :)

32:02 You have a main road that dead ends. But instead of connecting that to the highway, you upgraded an internal road with multiple junctions to connect it to the junction. Why? Some parts of this road network are aggravatingly difficult. Especially the industrial areas by the cargo ports. You have so many roads that have little to no purpose that just cause extra traffic bc more cars have to stop/yield.

I came here to basically say this. That whole industrial area was like a damn corn maze. Straight-through access and even one-way streets with few intersections would make that industrial area way better. Actually, that twin downtown core by the big train station could use some one-way streets (minus the main street in and out to the connector) to just simplify the flow through there.

That’s what I thought too! But there *are* a few trucks spawning from there that cross the road and turn left, like the ore truck just after 37:31. And one from the cargo barge arriving shortly after. So they *can* turn left. Could it be changed with the spawn point mod? And where were the trucks all going? To the port on the island? So many questions…

41:26 ... Biffa forces everyone turning right out of the side road to drive to the island to turn around and go back where they actually wanted to go. 44:01 ... Biffa says it's only trucks driving down that road now he's accidentally sorted that problem... but there are loads of non-trucks still being forced down there. (But I'm not an expert, so I may be wrong! Love the videos!)

You, sir, are very much correct ! All the vehicules coming out of the "ferry road" will need to go through the roundabout by the cargo. Not only that, the way he set it up make one unable to go from the main road to the cargo, but rather u need to go by the ferry road first !

37:13 Biffa, when you make that mistake where you upgrade roads and it shifts terrain, changes roads, etc.., It took me ages to figure it out, so here's a tip. I've seen you do this in previous episodes and I cannot stress how often it happened in my cities as well, until I figured it out. When you choose a road to upgrade or place, you choose it, click on the upgrade/road placement tool, and then on the bottom left of the screen, you need to use the toolbar where it says: Elevation step, Modes, Straight slope, etc... I will explain my experience now: In the modes section, you actually choose what placing/upgrading roads will do [And this mod overrides the default game setting. Actually, I hope it's a mod and not part of the base game lol]: The first (circle) option will upgrade the roads TO THE GROUND and will not change much, meaning it will add/upgrade roads and the roads will follow the terrain [What you should've chosen] (This should be the default selected option tbh, Idk why it's not). The second (arrow pointing down P.S Always the default selected option, so you may need to change this often) option will force the placed/upgraded road to go possibly below ground (Which is what you did, so when you upgraded it, it extended the tunnel because that's going below ground). I say possibly because sometimes it can just derange roads and not go underground. The third (arrow pointing up) option will force an elevation. It will force the ground to follow the road. (So to compare the first and the third option: In the first option, the roads will follow the terrain when upgrading/placing them and the third option will FORCE the terrain to follow the upgraded/placed roads. The third option will ELEVATE the ground) If you don't want it to elevate the ground but still want elevated roads, you choose the 4th (bridge) option which will create basically a bridge(Or a heightened road with pillars) and will NOT shift the terrain) This option is very useful when you want to upgrade an elevated road with pillars and don't want to have a hill going underneath the road lol. And I have no idea what the fifth option does, If you do find out please mention it in an episode, I haven't bothered finding out. It has something to do with tunnels under mountains/hills. Happy citying!

35:00 Could move all the rails to the center instead of the outside, and maybe that would make enough room to put a road across. Might still need to sink the tracks a little, but not as much.

Heya Biffa! As always, love the content. Just a quick one: Thank God you moved the tunnel away from the barge harbor. You were sending all trucks coming out of it all the way through the tunnel to the island where they were turning around. Now, you are only forcing the cars from the ferry harbor (the junction before) to drive past the barge harbor because of your hugo-there-rules. ^ ^

second time petitioning Biffa to set the underground road to no trucks, no private vehicles. The only reason you added it was so prison trucks could actually get prisoners to the island, so why the heck are you letting all the randos use it? force them the use the ferries!

No problem at all train station still has one of the lines stopping on the wrong side of the station. I’ve lost count of how many episodes it’s been now 😅

I'm not sure how the game mechanic uses cyclists, but from a real world perspective, you don't even need that many cycle paths. Just make a couple of cycle highways, that can be partly alongside a major road and partly dedicated paths. An abundance of choice, turns, intersections and traffic lights just makes cycling less appealing. Main corridors through the city, with branch paths to busy areas like shops and parks. You wouldn't need every street in a grid with a cycle path. We're cyclists. We can run over pedestrians.

No, no, from a real world perspective you want as many bicycles as you can get, and that includes infrastructure to get bicycles safely where they want to go from any part of time to all other places. Bicyling means there is less air pollution / smog, and your citizens are moving more, are less overweight and thus healthier, making less of a strain on your healthcare system. The more and easier the bicycling options, the better. But adding some dedicated bicylcing shortcuts with cycle highways is definitely a good idea, but not at the expense of the rest.

I'm from the city with the most bicycles and the cleanest air. But here in the Netherlands, the major roads have separate paths and the minor streets have traffic calming so they can be shared. And they're safe to be shared (though I avoid bus routes if I can). Even though you can bike in pretty much any street, longer trips are generally made along main routes that might not be the shortest, but have the least obstructions and are easiest to remember. But in car-dominant grids with stroads and no traffic calming, you don't want cyclists on every intersection. It's not safer, and decreases the car traffic flow.

Thank you, @Biffa, for all your traffic fixing, and your ways to solve them. I had a city, (im a new Cities Skyline player), with a traffic percentage at 26%. Following your suggestions to traffic fixes with roundabouts, lane mathematics and all the other things, I moved my city up to 84% You should be minister of traffic, in any country that ever tried to have a traffic jam.

I learn something knew every time I watch. Although my traffic in my city is horrendous I have tried to implement traffic fixes I solve one mess only to find another. Still my people only want to use one lane on the hwy's and by ways. I need to go back through old videos and see how to use the mod's correctly. Yet another great video Thanks Biffa.

Biffa, whenever you put a timed traffic light on an intersection that has monorail going through it, it creates lights for the monorail as well. So you would have to set it up to where the monorail light is always green so they don’t stop at the intersection. 35:50

A very simple fix: Michigan Turnaround (also called Michigan Left) When driving down a boulevard (also works while coming off the highway), and you want to turn left at an intersection, you have to go past the intersection, do a U-turn, go back and turn right. These are especially popular along boulevards in Michigan. Just Google them. Easy way to fix traffic.

Hi Biffa! really love your city fixes, especially the time lapses while dissipating bulks of traffic :D I would like to challenge you to a ultra vanilla fix! I totally get why you like TM:PE so much, it adds a whole lot of realism to the game. But IMO, it is even more important to prevent traffic in the first place to "master" the game. For my ultra vanilla fix, you need to unsubscribe TM:PE completely, but subscribe to "No Despawn Mod". TM:PE will not only add lane management and restrictions, but also changes traffic AI with rules in the settings, as you know. The "No Despawn Mod" will only deactivate despawning, and thats it. It forces you to use ingame features and city planning rules, to increase traffic flow. Road hierarcy, intelligent zoning, cargo management/planning, mass transit and district rules are features, which get ignored with increased use of TM:PE, I think. I don't have any city ready for this challenge, but I guess you have a lot of submissions ready for traffic fixing :)

Hey Biffa, I noticed that for the new freeway junction in the new tile, the cars are not going on the newly upgraded road, they seem to be going right instead of straight. And also from the train station near the cargo Barbour you worked on at the end of the episode that it can only turn right, meaning cars that wan to go left have to go through your bus/fairy terminal. Love yours videos keep them coming.

At 22:31 You could position the train track at the other side of the road, to have more room for the bridges that are going over the faster main road. At 21:04 You could bring the "problem" road (the one with lots of cars) and the road that goes to the faster main road, more to the road on the left as a round-a-bout. (Better to watch at 22:20)

9:17 the problem with the roundabout is the increased junction size (node controller). The cars need to be able to fully enter and exit the junction before the next vehicle with right of way passes. If you leave it with the standard give way setup but allow vehicles entering the roundabout to enter the junction it'll flow better.

Hi Biffa! Just so you know, the cargo harbor you just added the roundabout to is having so much traffic because the lane arrows on the junction are forcing cars to turn right and go down that dead end road ... You did that on purpose back when the Alcatraz road was still connected, but now that it's connected somewhere else, you might want to let the cars go both straight on and right in order to improve traffic. You could also just add an extra node between the transport hub one way road exit and this road so cars can change lanes. Loving this series btw!!

• Because of the change at 39:26 (train/street connection), you forced the people at 41:22 to go *only right* to prison island (before road change). After prison road change, the drivers still turn right into the container harbor street, to finally be able to make a left turn. • 40:04 2-way-road at bus stop, for who? Maybe 1-way but 2-lane road for better bus stop? • you are speaking "Lagerhafen" almost right. :P For "hafen" try to combine the word "half" + ending "en" of 'spoken'. Up until know, you sound good, but like 'haven'.

Biffa, at the foot of that bridge, you could have done a roundabout. The town I live in, we used to have a roundabout at the foot of a bridge coming from the town next to us. They took it out cause the younger drivers couldn't handle it and accidents started happening more frequently, but roundabouts like that have existed.

I just started playing city skylines not to long ago. The traffic fix videos help. But I guess I need to rewatch a lot more of them because my traffic is horrendous. Just wish I understand why certain choices are made a little bit better. But regardless loved the video!

25:20 I guess for that you should use the Vanilla+ roads since they have some nice markings that could work like that. Another thing is, instead of upgrading the road, how about turning the warehouse around 180 degrees to the road behind it? 30:50 Thats the unused highway access i mentioned in the last episode. You should totally take some advantage out of that one since it is a pretty big one. 34:22 Oh, and dont forget about the highway that comes out of the tunnel below the rails on the right! This one could perfectly fit to the main street in that area!

On the overpass highway exit/entrances (21:00), I've had good luck with a multi-light for the whole bridge (that the highway goes under). Basically you'd have all traffic going to the right on green (so some left turns, some right turns elsewhere, and the straight thru too. with dedicated entry lanes from the light a-la lane maths), then do the exact opposite for all the left traffic for the second light-step for the multilight. This setup can handle a decent bit of traffic for that cross-road-over-the-highway setup you're using (which I love using myself too).

This intersection you fiddle with around 22:16 gave me an idea to consolidate one rule I have : the FUNNEL rule : the ramp going out of the intersection to the highway, is only one lane while two sources of cars are going. When you look at the video some cars are waiting because one is already going, so in this case you would increase throughput by adding a second lane to the beginning of the ramp, merging to one before the ramp merges with the highway, creating a funnel effect, giving cars more time to merge.

35:45 As you put in the timed traffic lights you accidentally set it up for the monorail too! EDIT: I know the timed traffic lights are gone but I think it’s an interesting fact that the quick set up for the timed traffic lights also affect monorails above!

Since you added the intersection to the new neighborhood, you should remove the two crosswalks you had manually added, they're causing unnecessary stopping now that you have a proper intersection for them to cross at.

If you look at the traffic in your roundabout fix at 10:06, you can see that cars are pulling over to the side of the road (mid-roundabout!), 'parking', and their people are hopping out to walk/bike into your high-density area. That's what was slowing down the roundabout traffic, more than the lane setup and/or junction restrictions. It was stopping the traffic from the high density area from even getting onto the roundabout, as cars were crossing two lanes in order to get right over to the footpath so their sims could disembark.

A trick that I use is thanks by a study to cut gasoline emissions is to get rid of the "turn left". It's a strange way but efficient. I use it in regions with the majority of high density residential zones. For industrial zones, I use an outer "ring" (roundabout) with cul-de-sac streets within.

Great video as always! Love a good traffic fix! I am not 100% sure why the connection to the highway was made via the residental area and not buy extending the collector in front of the train station? Could have done a nice roundabout at the end of the that big collector - especailly to extend through the new square you have just unlocked 😊 Also, why not hook up the Island road to the national road behind the train station rather than via the residential district? All the cargo etc has to drive all the way through the area before they get to the tunnel. If you have it joined into the national road which runs into the highway then the cargo can just jump off the highway, down the national road and straight to the island
