I am definitely enjoying this series. You are reminded me of an interesting story that I heard. A friend, who was the manager at Staples, told of an interesting encounter with a customer. "Something is wrong with my computer, the coffee holder doesn't work properly." It turned out the lady was putting her coffee cup on the CD tray. The inside of her computer was saturated with either soda or coffee. I would love to see this type of encounter in this game or you could top it, Paul.

for people who build computers this game is awesome!! for people wanting to learn how to build systems this is a great way to learn what parts are what and how to assemble them.just build my 1st computer today now i'm level 6.only con is the music which is ok but i worked around that by downloading winamp and making a music folder and dumping all my 80's music and 12 inch mixes into it,starting up winamp and loaded my music(make sure you set play to repeat) then running the game and turning off the music in the game.

Man, that bring some memories. I mean, I wasn't exactly in that sort of business, but I work few years ago in company that made 4-D cinema platforms. And I was in charge of building new computers for teh platforms and repairing the ones that was sent back then customers broke them. Never was their fault, obviously. Accidents, poor luck, misguided customers of our customers... Love and hate relationship for me, multiplicated by the fact that our OS of choice was freakin' XP, so I had like 10 identical computer component packs(PC block, CPU, RAM, 2xHDD nothing fancy, pretty cheap + some our inner specific stuff for controlling the platform) and there was always problems and they were always different, I hated it so much because of that, but it was fun in it's own way. Somewhat good money, too, for the sort of work I did.

Trouble shooting: (A very long time ago): I have been a field service tech for commercial security systems, banking systems, even communication systems for U.P.I. Most customers will report something like "it's not working" or "something is broken" or more colorfully "it's f'd up". You can't do it in this game but the very first thing I would do when arriving at the client's was to ask things like "what was on the display?", "what indicator lights did you see?", "what noise (if applicable) did you hear and where did you hear it?" It's amazing how these little tidbits can narrow down the problem considerably, before taking out the first screw. Some shops include a "comment" section in the work order to include any of the customer's answers to these questions.

One time I was downloading mods for Terraria, and accidentally got a virus in my computer I ran like 3 virus scanners through and through, eventually I decided to just save the precious works and revert the entire thing. That didn't work, the virus actually made it impossible to do it casually, and I literally had to go ask help, took some while, finally got it fixed. Was not a fun experience. Yeah, some viruses are ridiculous...

Oh man this is bringing back some memories. I used to build all of my own PCs back in the day. This was way before Amazon or Newegg or any of those online businesses. I would actually buy my bits and pieces (gasp!) IN PERSON!! There used to be a traveling computer show that came to our town several times a year, where basically a bunch of vendors (mostly Chinese outfits) would set up tables and put out all their wares (complete systems, system parts like CPUs, motherboards, memory, hard drives, cases, etc.) as well as tons and tons of software -- some of which was actually legit! Being a starving student type on a real budget, I'd always go around to each and every table and see what they have and compare prices. Usually all of the vendors' prices were pretty close to each other, but every now and then you would find a better price on something at one of the tables; also some vendors were open to haggling and making deals. Good times, good times. I also used to have my own PC repair business too, except I was too poor to have a spiffy office, I operated out of my (not very spiffy) garage as well as on customers' premises. So yeah I've seen it all and I've done it all, everything from the really horribly disgustingly dirty computer, to the stupidly virus encrusted computer, and even finding, erm, "questionable" content, shall we say, on a person's machine while disinfecting or backing it up. (my policy was to just look the other way... and then run into the bathroom and wash out my eyeballs as soon as I handed the system back to the person) This is bringing back a lot of memories. Fun series!

Nice, this is an interesting series, heh. That said...I'd honestly recommend that you just wait to order all of your parts until just before you end for the day. For that reason, it also kind of makes sense that you simply claim the money from finishing jobs and getting the new ones at the same time. You definitely wasted $30 by ordering them separately (though I get that that might be how you'd do it in the real world, heh) Looking forward to more, though. ^^

The customers are doing the troubleshooting because it's early in the game. Later on, you'll have to do it yourself, and you'll also have to combine whole PCs from scratch. Not *that* difficult overall, but a bit more than this. :)

It looks like you eat the cost of shipping because the email tells you how much you’ll be paid off the bat. Which means you paid $60 for shipping because you placed two separate orders. Ordering all your components in a single order at the end of the day is going to save you money. Also, as you level up cheaper or better parts may become available to you throughout the day.

hey Paul, i noticed that you were making a teeny-weeny mistake to guarantee repeat custom....... you're leaving your virus scanning software installed on the customers computers, i'd gather that it would be the same as in real life if the customers don't know what they're doing and keep getting viruses then you are giving them the tools to fix it themselves at no cost. just a thaught :-) p.s. loving this and would love to see more in the series
