that thing on the side of the cd player, you call a lock mechanism, is actually there to route the cable that goes from the front of the genesis to the back of the cd player out of the way of the cd tray

Per page 3 of the owners manual archive.org/details/sega-cd-users-manual/page/n3 the mysterious "lock" device is actually the "Headphone Cord Catch" to neatly route your headphone or speaker cable down and out of the way. As an aside the Internet Archive is a great place to get the old manuals for these legacy devices and really helps when trying to unravel these little mysteries. Great job as always man KUTGW!

Hi! I just wanted to say that I love your vids! They actually encouraged me to try and fix some old controllers that were broken and left in my wardrobe for a longer time! Nothing was wrong with them tho! it turned out that the soft cleaning did a job ! It was so satisfying to see them working! When I was a little girl I thought it was impossible to fix them, but here I am, using my childhood controlers again! THANK YOU! Keep uploading your vids, I LOVE watching them! I hope you have a great day!

I could not get my the try on my Sega CD, I did what you said, turned that wheel with the teeth on it and when I tried to slide the try back it would disengage with the gears so I tried leaving the try extended and let the Sega CD close it but that just made it get stuck open. If I push the tray back in and turn on the power it would get stuck and cause the Sega CD to lock up and not allow me to get to the system settings or memory management. I originally had a problem of the try keep ejecting and staying out even if I had a cartridge in the Genesis so it would not even bring up the Sega CD Screen since having a cartridge in the Genesis just loads the game on the cartridge and by passes the Sega CD.

I recently bought a Japanese mega cd model 1 and after repairing the disc tray, I connected it to an American sega genesis and it turned on with the Japanese bios but when I put a music cd it did not read it so I would like to know if it is because my sega genesis It is American and it is incompatible by the region ??? or if that does not matter to read music cd I would like you to pass me the calibration levels for that model to calibrate the laser please

1:49 that is for the mixing cable to put in to make it not be in the way of the disc drive when it's opening Also my self wouldn't save games on the battery since sega have a cartridge that saves the games and is required for one of the games to beat it but I probably think you knew that already

A fully setup Genesis/Sega CD/32X is a monstrosity, but god damn if Sega didn't make it work. Too bad most of the games for the Sega CD and the 32X were trash. I got a Model 2 Genesis, Model 2 Sega CD, 32X, Game Gear (plus one crap game), all the cables, three controllers (a classic Sega branded 3-button, two wireless six button controllers that didn't really work) for $45 from a local thrift store some years back. Pretty decent deal. Everything worked great, the Sega CD worked like the day it was made.
@RetroRepairs
@RetroRepairs 5 жыл бұрын
Going to disagree with you on that first sentence. The SCD and 32x had some decent games on them. Obviously not as successful as the main genesis lineup, but I wouldn't call them trash. Worth owning, if you can get them at a reasonable price. Sega CD games in particular are getting out of hand with pricing though.

Sega was also going to make a 32 bit system to span between the genesis and saturn. Sega scrapped that and opted instead to make a 32bit add-on for the genesis. It did reasonably well in the US, but Sega of Japan pushed ahead with the saturn, essentially killing the 32x before it could ever gain more traction

Yeah all these failed add-ons for the Genesis, the overly complicated Sega Saturn that developers didn't want to mess with, and the Dreamcast that came out to early added to their down fall. I wish they would get back into the console market though. It would make for an interesting gaming landscape because they did have some revolutionary ideas.
