Water pump is a really common issue on the B58s. Luckily it’s pretty easy to replace all things considered. Also it’s definitely your shock leaking but that’s expected when putting lowering springs on stock shocks

Why the hell is that expected? Installed and ran a lot of lowering springs on stock shocks on different brands. Never a problem. The occasional leak after 200k+ miles but that also happens with stock springs.

@ Well stock shocks are designed with stock springs in mind. Putting on spring with a different dampening rate and different height forces the shocks to be in positions they’re not supposed to be in, hence wearing them out quicker. It’s like the suspension equivalent of constantly running a modified engine at high rpms, of course it’s going to wear out quicker.

@doingyamom most aftermarket lowering springs have almost the same spring rate as the stock ones, just shorter travel. If there is extra wear it's gonna be very little. As i said, installed a lot of them, driven a lot of them and never had premature oil leaks. The only ones claiming it will cause extra wear are the oem brands cause they want u to buy oem expensive parts. Lots of manufacturers offer a sports pack wich includes lower ride height. A lot of times they use the same shocks but different springs. They wouldn't do that if it would blow seals within warranty period.

@@TheTechnoaddict Not sure what lowering springs you’re buying but most have increased stiffness for a more sporty ride. And because the springs sit lower, the shocks will bottom out on larger bumps more frequently causing excessive wear. Plus due to the stiffer dampening rate more of the shock of the road is being sent to the stock shocks which wears them out quicker. You’re correct about sport package springs which are lower but in those cases the drop is very minimal, only around a half inch at most as manufacturers have to stay within a certain spec for safety standards. Bmws do have leaky shocks but they usually last around 100-150k miles on stock springs depending on the roads. You buy a luxury car, you’re going to have to pay luxury car prices. It rides nicer than a Honda but because of that the shocks do go out sooner.
