A brief tutorial on fixing inverted kite lines, without landing the kite. This is demoed on a Phantom 2 12m, but should work with any arc kite. You might also be able to perform the same trick on any kite willing to sit nicely at the zenith.
Sorry for the wind, but it did make for good kiting!

wow that is risky. I've done this before with my kite on the water but its sketchy every time. You may want to put a disclaimer in the video that only peter lynn arc kites are going to auto zenith without steering input. Any other kite on the market will have a tendency to drift to one side and eventually fall out of the sky when you grab the front lines.

this is a crazy maneuver. I would avoid it at all costs. especially in higher winds. Really crazy maneuver

I have done this out on the water when I was doing a down-winder and no where near anywhere I could safely land the kite. but I will say I did this with the kite on the water upside down, directly down wind of me. it was back in the day of old C kites. after I fixed the lines I had to go through the painful task of re-launching. but it was more or less the same technique. with inflatables this task is very hard while the kite is in the air due to never wanting to stay in the zenith without input. if your on an inflatable I would recommend putting the kite down to the edge of the window and allowing it to float downwind and attempt it there, and a worst case scenario is a self rescue.

I am sure I could tangle it worse, get out of control, and hurt myself. Then how long would it take to kiteboard again? How much will the doctor bills be? I can't think of a worse injury than a degloving injury or losing a body part from a string wrapped around it. Not all wonky lines are inversions and this probably won't work for non-inversion line crosses. I'm a beginner, but I have realized it is better to look like you know what you are doing by choosing less risky and smarter options, like landing the kite, and getting the strings right before re-launching well. It doesn't look good to fly a kite with twisted lines. Do this with the kite on the ground and nobody will notice. I want to stay off the path to injury. I want to kite instead of pay for a doctor's vacation.

Left out of this video is the fact that you can continue to ride with inverted lines with almost no problems. Ride and have fun for a while, and fix the inversion later, on the water, or the land, perhaps with some assistance. It's obvious in this video that he fixed the problem and didn't get hurt, but the risk is way out of proportion to the benefit. Just ride for a while with inverted lines. Fix it later, safely....

I have a question for the naysayers on this post: Do you understand what Nick and mean when we say "Auto-zenith"? I think the Peter Lynn Arcs are the only power kites that can do this. Without steering inputs they fly straight up into the sky and sit at the zenith with a relatively low load. You can literally unhook from the kite, clip the chicken loop to a post and walk away while the kite stays high in the sky for hours. It's a feature that gives the pilot remarkable freedom to do whatever they want. As long as you don't touch the steering lines a well behaved Arc will allow the pilot to release the bar, eat a sandwich, have a drink, have a conversation, or whatever. It also allows the pilot the freedom to correct rigging errors without landing the kite. As has been noted here, such maneuvers are not without risk, but they are often easier, more reliable and faster than accomplishing the same by landing. Almost every Arc flyer I have asked does this. Is it possible the kites you fly have characteristics that would make what I did in this video dangerous *on your kites*? I imagine your kites allow you to do things mine cannot, but perhaps my kites allow me to do things yours cannot?

Most people do not know about ARC kites and auto zenith. It‘s quite uncommon these days. This is definitively a no-go on most SLE kites which tend to fall to one site and sit at the edge of the wind window waiting for relaunch.

Ehh yeah Nice little trick but Please people for your own safty en others Just put the kite down and sort out the problem, it will only take 5 min more, and a lot safer ! The man in the video seem to be 100 procent in control, but others might have a older kite wich is much more unpredictible, ore maybe a bick gust hits your kite..

Great tutorial. It is possible to fix any 4 line kite tangle from the bar end: by either passing the bar through the centre lines or by passing the bar corner between the gap of the centre lines and opposite outside lines. I usually just throw the bar between the gap to keep my arms and fingers clear of the lines. Also be careful of the 'bar twist' upon completion and you may need to rotate your bar. I would only attempt this light winds with lots of space. Emphasis that you need to dettach your leash and be prepared to lose your kite. Note that these techniques should be practiced while someone is holding the kite. The practice is conned 'bar juggling' and is a great way to save you from disconnecting the kite lines.

don´t do this with a "normal" kite. Very dangerous. land the kite first. Learn to land the kite by your self and then untangle the lines. I see a lot kite videos with dangerous manouvers, this is one of them. sorry.

This maneuver can be done in relative safely but it depends on a couple of factors. First, this demonstration was done with a Peter Lynn Arc design. To the best of my knowledge the only kitesurf kite that has "Auto-Zenith". There are a lot of kite that are stable at 12:00 and will allow you to do this maneuver if you do it quickly but only the Arcs have true auto-zenith ability. Which makes this maneuver much easier and safer than it appears to those who aren't accustomed to Arc flight characteristics. Maybe a disclaimer stating that this should be more or less and Arc specific skill should have been placed? Obviously you wouldn't attempt this in unstable or gusty conditions. In fact where I ride we cannot use auto zenith due to our fluky winds. But if conditions are good, it's a quick way to resolve an invert on an arc. For those who have no experience flying those designs I can understand your concern but really, this is a relatively common thing with experienced arc pilots. In general it is always better to land a kite to deal with issues. Sometimes this isn't an option and sometimes if conditions are right and you have a good handle on things there are more creative, fast and risky options. My question to those who are up in arms about this would be how many of you are wearing protective gear when you kite? Such as helmets, or some flavor of impact/PFD vest? My feeling is you are at more constant risk just riding in general than the occasion hot invert removal. Yet so few wear protective gear.

Holly mackaroo!!!!! Which kite there, a helium ballon? or a gigantic 19m... if I do that on the 8 or 11m im dead. So many twists and armpits involved. Seems like death by AutoSuicide.

Dude. you can maybe do it on 3m kite but it would be stupid to tell a kiter to do it on normal size kite. Just land the kite and fix the lines before someone gets hurt.

This is idiotic. I have tried this twice in roughly 10 -15 nautical miles with a new Cabrinha Bar (not cause of this video). Trust me this is a bad idea. Don’t do it. Your bar will likely get stuck as your passing it through into a death loop - or worse.

Would be a lot safer if you keep the kite on the ground on the side of the wind window (at least) or fully land it and fix the lines while the kite is no the ground. Most kites do not have Auto-zenith feature and this technique would be impossible cuz you'd need control bar to keep your kite at noon.

Don't do this. Just land your kite and fix your lines. This is a really bad idea. You might save 5 minutes but are jeopardizing your safety and those around you just to save a little time. This is exactly how accidents happen.
