GUYS I'm curious abt powerups but I think you guys are missing the most obvious one! You should be able to unlock a scouting report for one (or all) of the contestants where you get to watch their "Spill Your GUTS" segment before you make your draft selection. It would add a bit of production work b/c someone else would have to go and make the clips but I think it would be funny and add some intrigue to the draft. For example from last ep, JoeZack picks Lawrence with 1. Then Jake has to choose between Misty and Sarah. If he uses a scouting report he gets to jump ahead to the spill your guts for both and he sees that (1) Misty is 12, is a "Bowling Phenom" and a "Unique Bowling Trickster" and (2) Sarah is 11, is a "Runner" and a "Jumprope record breaker." Jake picked Misty IRL but if he had the scouting report I bet he'd be freaked out by the double bowling facts and would go with Sarah instead.

I was against the power-up idea but I think that's because I hadn't heard any good examples. This is a fantastic idea. It's helpful but not too powerful like the pick-swaps they talked about in this video. If they do power-ups in the future it needs to be things more along these lines.

Jimmy has said on the Morning Meeting podcast that having Mo guest on an episode or episodes would likely ruin the flow and rhythm of the episode and I think he's right. It would be kind of like just randomly having a member of the 1992 USA women's gymnastic team comment on the performance of the Guts competitors. I think a better idea might be to have a separate show where Jimmy interviews Mo about her experience on Guts(Talkin' Playin' Guts)and gets her to react to clips from Playin' Guts. Maybe make it a limited series if the audience actually cares and have producers try to book memorable standout competitors like the Mendelsohn twins, Little Dynamite, etc.

Power-up suggestion: "No Faith", where, if after 2 3rd-place events you think that your contestant will come last in every event til the end, and you're right, you get extra points. You can tweak it that if they get one 2nd place finish, the power-up still works. It like a one time insurance on an episode.

PowerUp idea: Double or nothing. Before an event, you can choose to use this if you're confident in your contestant to win the event. If they do win, they get double the 1st place points for that event. If they get 2nd or 3rd, they get no points for that event.

I like it, but I do agree with Jimmy's philosophy of wanting the Playin Watchin Guts celebrations at the end of an episode to match those of the actual Guts contestants, and this potentially violates that. It's a limitation on powerups, because that means it has to be draft/trade focused and can't affect the actual scores.

Maybe they could do something like: Successfully pick who wins this event and you automatically get that player, or even: Pick the placement order for this event, if you get all 3 right, you get the player of your choice. But you can only use that power up once per season. Would just be cool if the boys could impact the games more after the initial pick.

The official guts scoring isn't that complicated. It is WAY easier to use the points they show on the screen rather than take that and convert it your own thing. The odd scoring at the end is there to prevent a tie. That works. Using a spreadsheet is fine. 0, 2, 4 doesn't help with a dud 3rd. If you insist on doing that, kind of system, you can help that with a 2 point bonus for first place and zero for 2nd and 3rd so it closes the gap between 2nd and 3rd with the chance for a win to help make up ground.

So we had a math issue in the last season so lets make sure we have to move decimals and add extra weighted scoring points to make sure we continue to make it as hard as possible to keep up with the points. Next seasom, we will be doing only fractions where we divide each players total points by the place they finish. And for season 5 we will use the scoring system the guts officials used in the batting event where they just completely made up the results.

The way guts does ties makes perfect sense. They award the points based on 3 open positions. If there is a tie for first then the first and second place kids both occupy the first place and the third get gets third place. If the tie is for second place then one kid gets 1st place and the two spots below both get second.

Jozack's kid takes first every event, every episode.. 4 episodes Jimmy's kid finishes third every event, and the other 4 Jake's kid finishes third every event... I think last seasons draft system would be good with the guts scoring would be good for trades because its basically live scoring and if you think the 3 pick is still going to score well its a good tactic to trade down to it. Question though for mid episode trades..are you trading the episodes points totals or do you keep the points you obtained in the first rounds before the trade happens?

I like taking on the points of the kids with the caveat of simplifying it (say Jake wins with 1725 points and that turns to 17.25) and keeping trades while keeping draft picks the same (each team gets the same amount of first, second and third) but flipping the order for the first episode. Don’t think it needs to be more complicated than that tbh everything seems pretty good imo

For a power up for 1 event, if I understand correctly and points a per event, you double or add 1 point to that event. So if you have a tall kid and it’s a leaping event you can score a little bit extra. It can’t be used on the crag

I like the idea of getting points for each event and then points for winning. If the max points in a match is 1500 (300 per event and 300 for Krag), For the most part, Your winners will be around 900. Maybe make the winner get 500, so that winning is still valuable. Second would get 300, last would get 100. Then winning the round with al ow point person is still somewhat valuable. Someone could win the episode and barely score more than the opponents. At least if you had points for winning as well, you would still benefit. If you don't get points for winning the episode, someone could pick 2 people that run their episode and no one would be able to catch up if the other matches were fairly even. For S's and G's, you pick someone that dominates twice. They end up with 1500 each episode. That's 3000. The other two could only have 1500 pts each. Someone could win 4 events and still only get 4000 across those 4 matches, and the others would get about 4000 each as well. If Krag is the same value as the rest, with no points for winning, someone could win the episode but get lower points than second place.

Throwing an idea out, dont know if its considered a "power up" or what but what about trading for one specific event (not the Crag, of course). Example, if I have player A and someone else has player C and long jump is the next event and I think Player C is better suited for Long Jump than my Player, I can offer my next first rounder for the "Gimme" 300 points? and then go back to my Player.

Copy/pasting my reply to someone else who suggested this: I hate that this is apparently such a popular idea here. If anything that sort of thing should only be used as some sort of tiebreaker. It doesn't matter if you win by 1 or 1,000, a win is a win. Like that takes away HEAVILY from the excitement to the end of events/episodes. There would be so much "Well at least I came in 2nd, so I get 200 points and hopefully in the long run of 8 entire episodes it will work out." No, we should be excited with the winner of each event and each episode within the context of that episode. I hope so badly that they never do this.

@@snangoboman2111 Either I'm not understanding you, or you're not understanding me. Where are you getting arguing about 200 points?? The idea is that if Jimmy drafts blue, JoeZack drafts red and Jake drafts purple, they each get the number of points that that contestant scored in that episode. If blue gets 1725 points in the episode, Jimmy would get 1725 points towards his season total. It actually makes the outcome of each event and episode more important and exciting, and doesn't complicate the math AT ALL over what they're already doing. Adding 4-digit numbers together with a calculator is in no fucking way "more complicated" than adding 3-digit numbers together with a calculator. I'm not SUPER strong on that scoring system though (I'm not sure what my ideal system would be), my point was just that whatever Jimmy is trying to do here makes WAY less sense than anything else. He's just trying to cheat. Using it as a tie-breaker is a great idea though. I can definitely get behind that.

Whether it's 4, 2, 0, or the 725, 550, 375 they did this recent season, whatever. By giving them the total points of their contestant it takes away from the excitement of there being a winner each episode. Someone could lose the Crag at the end by only 100 points, but they wouldn't care, and we wouldn't care, because it's only a 100 point difference. (Hence me saying, we would have situations where someone comes in 2nd in an event, earning 200 points, but wouldn't care much because they are looking long term). It would take away from the excitement of there being a meaningful winner of each episode because everyone would be looking long term at the total points scored for the entire 8 episode season.

Make drafting an auction. You all start with a fixed budget. The kids come out and you decide how much of your budget you want to risk to get *that* 1 pick. The winner has that amount deducted from their season long budget, then the two pick goes up for bid with the remaining players. You get 200 points per episode in your budget to bid with.

I have a couple thoughts after watching. #1: a kooky curveball to the draft. This is like an adaptation of Jake's idea of writing down the picks. What if the player in 3rd place of the previous episode gets the 1st pick, no funny business. But the 2nd and 3rd pick is decided by the remaining two players writing down their choice between the remaining two contestants. If they differ, then they each get the contestant they wrote down. If they each wrote down the same contestant, then the player with the first pick gets to decide who gets which player. This gives more of an advantage to the player that just finished 3rd in the previous episode by not only drafting 1st, but also possibly delegating the remaining picks based on the other two players' positioning in the season. #2: When the idea of power-ups/power-downs came up, I thought of a strategic blindfold idea. As much as I'd love to see Joez blindfolded for the crag, he seems pretty dead set against it since he believes it does nothing for the game. What if each player has a power-down to give out once per season, and the power-down is a blind draft for the 1st pick. Whoever finished 3rd in the previous episode could be sabotaged by one of the other two players electing for a blind draft at the very beginning of the recording. This decision must be made before the names on the scoreboard have been shown. The player with the 1st pick must draft by only listening to the audio. Thus, they will be determining their pick solely on the player's name and their assumed gender (some names can be given to both boys and girls, such as Riley, Jordan, Taylor, etc.) Factors like height, stretching, baby-facedness, and mannerisms, will be hidden from them. If this is too kooky, then maybe there is one blind draft for the whole season, and all three players must draft blind. Perhaps the opening or closing game of the season.

For the draft you should do like an auction draft. You would have a set amount of “money” for the season and you guys bid on each contestant. You could also use money for trades too

I feel like if it isn't just going by their entire score for the whole episode then just giving a 3,2,1 for each event individually and then 4,2,1 for the Crag would work. It would be an easy way to keep the points on a level that's reasonable enough for Jimmy to manage on paper and for everyone to easily follow along.

I think it would be fun in the future for each of you to have to blind fold draft a number 1 just based on names. This wouldn’t work on the current pick system you will be using, but more so the pick system from last season where everyone had 2 number 1 picks 😂

Have you guys figured out the crag brag controversy? Because if not then here's my idea: make it like fighting game tournaments. The crag brag is the first place team vs the second place team. The third place team is out of the competition. The first place team and the second place team play an episode of guts. If the first place team wins that episode, then that's it. They win the championship. If the second place team wins that episode, then they reset the bracket. Then they play one more episode of guts and whoever wins that episode wins the championship. So essentially the first place team only has to win 1 episode to win the championship, but the second place team has to win 2 episodes to win the championship.

Might be interesting to weight lower draft picks? Like, rewarding a 2nd pick 1st place, or a 3rd pick 2nd/1st place finish higher? More points for out-playing your draft position?

What about breaking apart a 9 episode season into thirds. The person leading in points at each checkpoint chooses the draft order for the next three episodes. Winner of last season starts with eps 1-3. A tight race would have player in 1st grant the second pick to the 3rd place player and creates balance while allowing for sabotage/self-inflicted wounds.

Power-up idea: Twice during the season (per team) if after the first two events, it is obvious you have a dud with only 200 points, you can make a wager. A Jeopardy Daily Double, if you will. You can make a bet on what score your dud player gets in the next event. If you are correct, you get double points for that event. If you want to do a power-down and penalize the wrong wager, you could do that too.

Power up could be if you can guess the time your kid finishes the round or, for example, how many baseballs the kids knock off the wall, and you can get double points for the round.

Use the points the kids get at the end of the episode and a "power up" is you can double the earned by ur competitor for one event, stated before the event begins. 3 per season....this will prove the "oh this girl is built for the jumps" ect.

Here's what I think they should do. Do a full season draft , instead of single episode drafts. Get a big board, make a section for each episode with a screenshot of the contestants lined up, along with each of their bios. Let the boys watch the start of each episode when the contestants run in. Let the guys chat it up, and take some notes. Then start the draft. Each of the guys take a turn picking a contestant from any episode. They are allowed to make a second pick on an episode even if a first pick is available on another episode. After two contestants are picked for an episode, the third contestant is considered undrafted and is assigned to the guy who didn't pick. Nobody can pick two contestants in the same episode. When we watch the episodes, they can replay when the guys watched the start of the episode during the draft. We can also be told what round each contestant was picked. Use GUTS scoring for Watching GUTS scoring. Same trade rules from before. Only now instead of trading for a future pick, they would trade for contestants in future episodes.

there should be a physical challenge for the draft order - some sort of office game like darts or shooting a ball in a trash can or something. Kind of like shooting for teams in basketball

Alright, in order to decide the order of the episode 1 draft, we need a season of Jolly, Zo, and Jack to play guts, each one representing one of you guys. The winner gets to draft No 1 overall, and so forth
