I find some possible problems with the 3170 JCB Fastrac, are they to do with the curious sound?

Hello George,watching your video you can see that the air con compressor is out of alignment with the fan pulley.This can cause belt noises and squeaks.

I’ve had 4 Fastracs, 1135, 2135, 2140 and 2155. They have been the most reliable, cost effective tractors we have ever had, by miles! Our Accountant even rang me up to say so.
@AlexLindley-u5f7 күн бұрын
How does your Accountant differentiate if No repair bills coming in for the Fastrac ?
@Rickwardful7 күн бұрын
@@AlexLindley-u5f There are servicing as well as repairs costs. The Fastrac is the only tractor supplied by its dealer. The others by their dealers. He compares what the costs are for each tractor. When I wanted to change our 2135 for a 2140, he rang to say that the 2135 was the most cost effective tractor we had. But for depreciation, he was questioning why I wanted to change it, instead of the less reliable other brands were using. I would quite happily run more of the 2000 series Fastracs if they hadn’t now been out of production for 10 years.
@AlexLindley-u5f7 күн бұрын
@@Rickwardful Thanks for Replying. How do you find the Depreciation on Fastracs ?
@Rickwardful7 күн бұрын
@@AlexLindley-u5f He is in charge of what depreciation he attributes to each piece of equipment we have. Though sometimes I have to get him to alter the rates he uses. If we sell a machine for less than its written down value, that creates a loss. If we sell it for more, then there is tax to pay on the difference.
@AlexLindley-u5f7 күн бұрын
@@Rickwardful Aye - i understand that from an Accountancy view point - I was just looking at what it costs to renew after say 3 years from New - which it seems to me to be the cheapest way to run machinery in order to have max availability. Do they hold their money ?

Fastrac, 6bt exhaust manifolds do shrink with age . Hard to believe but they do. Gaskets start moving and bolts snapping, coming loose. Also they can move across the exhaust port slightly and causing a restriction. The last one I changed was nearly half an inch shorter than a new one! If you get a p tronic make sure you budget 20k every 5-6000 hours for transmission repairs.

@josephlawless601311 күн бұрын
Now that you have a few hours on her after the work, it might just be time to do a good torque test on the bolts. Things heat cycle and can loosen up a bit. I suggest you hit all the intake bolts and those radiator clamps along with a new belt. Might even be worth pulling those exhaust bolts one at a time and using good high temp anti seize on them for the future. Remember a field tractor is not the same as a pavement queen. Things get jarred and rattled. Prob would not hurt to go through that and the TW every year just checking those bolts.

George without a Fastrac?! But then it was like George without the T-Dub, that happened! But do you really need another big tractor? 8250 would be nice, but what about the F-Dub, you've still got things you want doing on that. Stick with what you got, as least you'll get some use out of that third of a gear box you paid for!😁

3 gaskets between a new head and the manifold? Was it a new manifold as well? If the manifold wasn't new then did they not check the mating faces to make sure they were all level and get them machined if not? 3 gaskets can't be standard install procedure, surely?

Our firm hired a Fasttrac from somewhere about what must have been twenty five or thirty years ago to do a bit of muck leading . This particular one couldn’t pull the skin of a rice pudding when it came to the slightest hill. They weren’t very big trailers either, it was embarrassing to drive, i was forever pulling over at every chance to let traffic go. I preferred the 178. I have never forgotten that experience, whether the air filter was blocked up i never did find out, i didn’t want to mess about with it.Ps, Does anyone know how many HP those first ones were in the early/ mid nineties ?
