I went through three MX Master 3s before discovering how to fix them. All of them had their switches replaced due to a frustrating "double-clicking" issue that developed after about a year, which was disappointing for such an expensive mouse. If it weren't for the amazing scroll wheel, I probably wouldn't buy it again. However, once I learned that the switches could be replaced, I jumped at the chance to do so. Now, all my MX Master 3s are performing even better!

They are very aware of it as all of their mice have this same problem. I have fixed 5 mice by now, first one was 6 years ago. The reason why this is happening is that the switches are corroding on the inside. The cause of the corrosion is that the switches are not rated for the voltages Logitech runs them at, the documentation specifically outlines the voltages the switches are tested for and Logitech somehow misses that every time. Given how common this issue is with their mice and how long this has been known for, I choose to believe that this is an intentional decision. Further more, if this happens during the warranty period, they ship you a new mouse no questions asked(more or less). A company does not approve warranty claims like that unless it is a calculated decision. TLDR: Film a video of your mouse buttons "not working" 3 months before the warranty is up(any shorter and they will delay response until the warranty is up) and you get a brand new mouse. Life hack

I’ve known Logitech since 1984 and have owned several of their products over the years-three Harmony remotes, four webcams, 15 keyboards, and countless mice. One thing I've found consistent with Logitech products is that they tend to break right after the warranty expires. For me, it happens after just one year, as I’m a programmer and use these products extensively throughout my day. Since 2010, I’ve been using Apple products, not as a fanboy, but because, despite my preference for Linux on good hardware, there’s a lack of essential apps. I didn’t use Logitech at all until my son gifted me the MX Master 3S. Now, just a year later, I’m facing the same issue with the mouse. Consistency is good, but to be honest, while the Apple mouse is precise, it also tends to last no more than 3-4 years. It’s disappointing that after decades, this recurring issue continues to affect Logitech products.

Just replaced the switches on mine last night, then this video pops up. I used the Kailh switches ( just in yellow) and they feel better than the originals IMO; plus they're even quieter. Got 'em on Aliexpress for a couple bucks shipped, and I even have spares which is nice. Definitely recommend a third hand, it was a pain without one.

Can you please share the link to the aliexpress?

I've had an MX Master 1 for about 8 years now - still works like a champ!

This is my third MX Master 3S and I'm having the same problem. I'll try this solution since Logitech will never admit their design flaw.

By chance do you know the dimensions of the thumb button (gesture) switches? In addition to my LMB, the thumb also died but it's a different height switch.

I've had nothing but issues with my MX Master 3S. First the programming on the buttons would cease working at random times, next the mousewheel got stuck in freespin and now, finally the Bluetooth does no longer work. The fact that all this occurred only weeks after the warranty expired and that this is such an expensive mouse makes me never want to spend a dollar on Logitech again

I've repaired all of my mice in the last 15 years by opening those (mostly) Omron switches and flattening the thin copper back into it's original form. My MX Anywhere 2 lasted for 8 years and now my MX Anywhere 3 is currently in it's 4th fix.

I wish I had better skills with that. I killed my Mx anywhere in the proces. Like every other electronic hardware fix I approached. I'm no hardware repair guy 😂

Can’t believe you navigated this so well. I tried to change out the battery and broke the ribbon cable lock trying to get it back together and now I think it’s kaput haha

They've only been making mouse with 30 years you have to give them some slack, buttons are really complicated and sometimes things break in just the right way that increases their sales and that makes it really difficult to do something about it !

I think asus made a pretty good mouse with mechanical switches that are hot swap, i think it’s the ProArt Mouse MD300. I enjoy logitech, but I would like my mouse to last like my old Logitech G600 (around 8 years) wich still alive but does not have that many features, sadly.

Logitech make good mice, if you are ready to solder new switches after a year of use. A hate them for this. It is not just MX series. Gaming Logitech mice have same issue with switches not clicking or starting to double-click.

I have an MX Master 2S for almost 6 years now and it still work like in first day I changed the outer shell as the rubber got nasty, but beside that, everything was ok, no issues (at least not one without an easy fix) I plan to buy a second one, as the MX 3S is a bit too big for my hand

🤙🏽🤟🏽👌🏽 *Planned obselescence is near enough an evil symptom of our current type of capitalism* 😢 From the days of the "lightbulb conspiracy" to "hidden chips" in printers to now products of lesser quality, way harder to repair, and psychology of newest versions. subscriptions from software to usin features of hardware is the new "evil" 😪

Very true, it seems like a far more ingrained problem, its going to take a big shift in peoples perception and thought to change this issue.

funny thing is that Logitech themselves think optical switches are better their current "gaming flagship" mouse the g502x has optical switches.

Yeah. I don't buy Logitech anymore. Even though I owned many Modells I liked a lot. 50+€ for only 2 years of usage is a dealbreaker.

Okay - you seem to have edited & completely skipped past the most crucial step - which is how you're converting it from the original switch, to the more traditional switch we see you playing with.
