I imagine this is mostly an issue for those who were only taught bottom-up feature based modeling.

Its a problem that I've come across many times in online forums. I have no idea of the background of those with the issue but since it's been asked so many times I figured addressing it may be useful.

I agree. This is why I fully disagree with those that want to learn Mastercam so they join a group....let's call it an academy. Then the guy teaching them jumps right into solid modeling when he himself doesn't understand the software. This is all hypothetical, of course.

good vid showing how to fix an often problem in 3:52 you can use your single line and cut the model just go to the "advanced" tab tick thin wall, select direction, and type for example 1 or 2 inches and it will cut it for you without breaking lines or creating extra geom. :) I understand that you wanted to present didfferent thing
@CamInstructor3 жыл бұрын
You are correct! The thin wall extrude will cut that shape if you select just the inner geometry and extend. Perhaps another video showing other possible solutions is in order...I've also seen some who will create the closed chain with extra geometry, not by breaking existing. Not as clean as the thin wall but it does work. Yes, the intent here was to generate that error message and show the most common cause as well as a couple possible fixes. Thanks for the feedback, glad you liked the video!

I feel like it is sloppy practice to use open ended booleans like that. Maybe for a simple model like this it's okay, but the better way would have simply been to have the order of operations correct from the start.

@@SuperAWaC You are right. It isn't the correct way to make a 3d model and not the best software to do complex modeling

Mcam is way more complicated then fusion

I don't find either more difficult than the other. Esprit, that one took me a bit to get the flow of, not in a bad way, it was just different than what I was used to.

Thanks for video .Have this problem all the time . A lot of time when I delete my solid history it undoes the extruded feature and changes the part . Can be really frustrating

Coming from F360 to MC this was a life saver. I think the thing I was missing was the arrows along the path, I tried rechaining but kind of ignored the whole arrows pointing in a direction, now that I've seen it (and honestly even in this video it doesn't really call this out) it seems clear as day that it is asking "hey...which way do I go??"

it's clear if you delete lines or something solid is made up of, then solid doesn't know what drives e.g. an extruding
@phexnyx4183 Жыл бұрын
How do you fix the error: Planar chain set needed. During the extrusion part of drawing
@CamInstructor Жыл бұрын
Something in your chain is at a different Z level than the rest. You can project move your chain to a specific Z level as a quick fix.
@phexnyx4183 Жыл бұрын
@@CamInstructor could you explain a project move in a little more detail. I'm not totally sure what that entails
