Well, I don't think it's finished, but then again, it probably never will be. At least now we can hop in, hit the key and do cool stuff like make massive brush piles and unload big old iron.
Miss the rest of the series on this abandoned Michigan 55 loader? We actually rebuilt the 3-53 Detroit Diesel in the woods! Check out the playlist here -

On those axel plugs one normally rolls the outlet straight out to the side then filling till oil runs out half full. The fan is on backwards. Ya'll are pulling air from the rounded side. The cupped blades pulling with the cup moves twice as much air.

Man does this bring back memories . . . . Back in the day, I used to run a Michigan 125 in the rock quarries in Maine. Those quarries were like deep freezers in the winter time. We had to run a 50/50 mixture of diesel fuel and kerosene to keep the fuel filters from sludging up. Great job on fixing the little things, makes you think you're running a new machine again.

I think the hub should be sideways and filled so it's half full. Great video. She's running great. I would've expected fan to pull air through the rad. It needs a shroud.

Yeah I’m not sure what it had on there. Seems to move air ok. We’ll see if she gets hot.
@johnferris4237
@johnferris4237 4 ай бұрын
@@dieseJLpretty sure those hubs should be checked with the fill port in the horizontal position. I would also change the hub fluid, chances are it’s been a long time since the last change if ever. Regarding the fan I think it should be pulling air through the rad and across the engine. When it is pushing air it will still effectively cool the rad but not the engine.

Great job, like thoes old Iron, sometimes it seem drive good ,sometime looks it wont drive that good. There is i think a transmission cut out valve when use brakepedal, that is doing it realese the to the gearbox from drift to get more power to liftng. Mabye that valve is a issue? Have that valve on my Mchigan 35AWS, belive you got it to.

Those 2-cycle Detroit engines use only 40wt low ash content motor oil. Use nothing else, year-round. I get mine by the 5-gallon pail from Miles Petroleum Products. Even including shipping from NY to Kentucky it’s still the cheapest way. Go to their website and order a pail for your next oil change. And we need a bonfire video!

Hey, so a couple of things man when you're laying on your back in the dirt. Or in a shop Let on your back Go to your local. Interior decorative store Or a carpet supply store.. And get you some cheap Fluffy Peace Carpet or see, if you can get some pieces of carpet out of there dumpster, obviously you try to find nice Clean pieces which there's Always waste from carpet jobs. I know I've been using carpet on the ground. And then shops laying on my bat for a good while, sometimes even take a nap. And that Michigan front end loader is a Beast that thinks screams good job. And I hope you like my advice.

My bet is maybe the torque converter, but I am leaning more on the transmission even when I heard that sizzling and popping from the torque converter. My bet would be an old Michigan repair guy, he would tell you flat out in two seconds what ya'll needed to do. Maybe even diesel repair services, while they repair fuel pumps they probably know. Diesel area repair maybe? At least ya'll got the engine perfect. Now she needs to roll faster.
