I am over 2 years too late, but wanted to give a quick critique on the Fred caricature, namely: that drawing was, actually, never meant to look like Lucas to begin with! Before he centered in on Fred's popularity, Lucas focused his channel on character acting, which involved well, what it says on the tin: making videos of him portraying various characters he thought up, with all the personality ticks and mannerisms that come attached. And this is exactly how the character of Fred was born, who in actuality, is meant to be some ten year-old boy; you were just supposed to use your imagination, and ignore the fact that it was Lucas. The famous Fred T-shirt caricature was supposed to be an in-universe representation of the Fred *character* (ie, the 10-y/o child) drawing himself, which suddenly makes certain details (such as the braces, and overly-simplified symbol drawing) make much more sense. Once Fred branched out into Nickelodeon, it was treated as a sort of reboot so that they didn't have to explain that weird bit of context that isn't exactly inherently picked up on, and it's then that it was changed so that Fred, the character, literally was the same person as how Lucas appeared, and I believe this's around the time the classic caricature started to be phased out anyway. Though, sometime soon after this, I wanna draw attention to an online-only Fred animated series that happened, which was yet another "reboot" that sorta merged the original and the Nickelodeon versions? Meaning, he was still a teenager like the Nick version, but the character's design leaned back more towards the original vision from the early KZbin days, instead of just being [literally Lucas]. To whoever finds this comment, I hope you found this quick+dirty history lesson at least a little bit entertaining :)
