Geezzz. I was just killing myself trying to loosen the inside power steering belt and you just pulled the belt. Looks to be the same engine as my 2004 scion xb. I'll give it another shot in hopes to not break the belt off. Wish me luck!

Excellent video,thanks. I'd advise having new plastic push fasteners for the inner fender on hand before you start the replacement, they will probably break on removal.

I got to power steering nuts from top. No need to remove shields underneath. Most likely need to loosen pivot point nuts. Some people seem to get away with a slippery point and dont need to do that. I did.

yes only that one. yes some force too. sometimes its really stuck in there so before trying to move it. put some lubricant in it.

At 2:15 you pry on the alternator to tighten up the belt, then show the power steering belt is now tight. But those are separate belts. How did you tighten up the power steering belt?

He meant power steering pump, if you look closely you see that's not alternator.

I've got a 2001 echo and there is almost no clearance to get the ratchet wrench onto the bolt you're pointing to when you start the video. Tried for hours and when I finally wiggled the ratchet on there, it wouldn't budge.

I had to loosen the three bolts on the mount and let the engine go down. I put a jack under there to support the engine and moved it down slowly.

Thank You , Your vid. was helpful, you certainly made it look easy, that is for those who have a lift. No worries though I saved time by not even trying to attempt the job from above, but secured the little 2003 plastic Toyota Beast's, front end, jacked up in the air, Transmission in Park, E. Brake, pulled on tight, both back wheels choked & blocked, forward & backward, then lowered onto 2 ton "Jack Stands, at the appropriate designated places, for Jacking the Echo's front end up, along each side. Yes!!!, making the job go just as, safe & easy, as you made it look when you were under it, winding that belt around various places it needs to go. Good hint you gave,!!! to have that diagram, of the belts, required Pattern of installation, with you when your down under, Thank You!, ( listen up crew ), Helps to get it right, the first time. Thx again, for sharing.

Try Dayco or Gates catalog they have an online guide to tell you which belt you need.

Just purchased an replaced the alternator serpentine V belt with a "Gates Micro-v", Part # K040465, 4Pk1181, 9/16" x 47" OC, for the 2003 Echo, Auto Trans, with AC. Purchased at O'Riely's for $19.95

If you have AC can you use the non ac belt and just bypass the compressor? My 02 echo needs a new compressor and I do not want to buy the $390.00 part I use the car in the winter only and do not care if it has AC. just wondering if you have worked on a non AC model and if the belt for that model would work for me.

On some cars you can do that. I do not know for sure if you can for yours, it all depends on how the belt routes. And if the pulley on the compressor is ok, but the internal parts of the compressor are bad, you could just dis-connect the compressor electrically, so it never comes on.

+hyperx43 Yep. I just spent half an hour prying on what I thought was a stuck tensioner, but you have to loosen the alternator, its the only way.

I'm having trouble loosening the drive belt on my 2000 echo at the moment. The two mounting bracket bolts are easily loosened but I was told by a friend to loosen the bottom bolt on the alternator as well. The bottom bolt is practically welded on but I haven't tried using a pry bar to push the alternator back yet. I'll post here again when I get it figured out.
