Thank you so much for this video, I've used this video twice now over the last couple years when my old not always so trusty M2 starts shutter capping at 1/1000 --this video has definitely helped me keep my M2 as my "cheap and cheerful" leica!

Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experiences. I have a Zeiss Ikon Icarex 35s. It had a problem with second shutter curtain cannot close on slow speed, and I fixed it by tightening the toothed-gear on the bottom camera, which increase the tension on the second shutter curtain. Now both curtains can complete it travel, however I'm worrying about the possibly uneven exposure caused by inconsistent tension on 1st and 2nd curtain. My question is: How can I check if both curtains travel in exactly the same, and correct speed? Thanks again :)

Hold the camera up to a diffused light source so that it strikes the shutter as you watch it from the focal plane side of the camera. You will be able to see any uneven exposure. If you have any it will be most noticeable at the higher speeds.

Thank you. btw, if the image output is darker on the left side, which curtain should I adjust?

Thank you very much for your video! My Leica curtain has been adjusted correctly thanks to your instruction. But now I have another problem. The tip of 2nd curtain is not fully hidden inside the camera, I can see its tip bare eyes in the camera chamber. The curtain works fine, no light leaks, even exposure as normal. - Should I adjust tension to pull curtain's tip inside the camera or leave it there? - If I had to, should I increase/descrease which tension? The first or second tension curtain? Thank you very much.

It would be nice have the curtain position perfect, but there is not a simple fix for that. If it is functional and delivering even exposures, you could leave well enough alone.

Can I do the same thing on m6?
@FixOldCameras5 жыл бұрын
The shutter curtain tension can be adjusted on a M6. However, always keep in mind the uneven exposure can be a manifestation of other issues with in the mechanism, and only slight adjustments should be employed. If small tweaksdto not correct the issue than further service would be advised.

There's no need for opening the collar, just push down the lock ring with proper size screwdriver.
@FixOldCameras7 жыл бұрын
True, but if the collar is not loosened the adjustment position possibilities are limited to two and there is a slight risk of pushing the adjustment screw to the point that the torsion spring disconnects.
