We recommend using an 18 gauge 1 1/2 inch needle for fizzing through the side. You can get them at drugstores, vetrinarion supply shops, or online.

This should be required to watch before purchasing a fishing license or fishing a tournament. Kind of like hunter education courses.

Not quite true. The fish is supposed to sink like that. However, if he's been on his side or upside down for a long period of time (more than 30 mins) and/or cannot right himself after fizzing, then yes, he's done. If he sinks to the bottom and is upright like the fish does in the video, the he's fine so long as he hasn't been struggling on his side for too long prior to fizzing.

It’s kinda like a chest tube for a person, although I’ve heard that fizzing doesn’t help in the long term, only deep water releases work, or ideally not fishing for fish that you won’t eat below 28 feet

It's a common misconception that only bass - or ALL bass - caught deep need fizzing. Truth is, it can be necessary regardless of depth caught, and often not needed at all - even if they're caught deep. It really is dependent upon whether or not the fish is having trouble righting itself in the livewell. Yes, it does help long-term, but again, do it only if the fish is showing symptoms as shown in the video. Not as a matter of protocol.

@golfer15963 just under the scale...then lift it up and push in about 1 inch..you will see the air come out.dont do it for bass caught in 10 feet or less...only if he/she is having issues in the live well or back in the water...dont know about smallies...

I have been very interested in this, notice how fast the fish hits bottom, at the end of the video the fish is still on bottom, Ive been told the fish can never equalize. google the N.H. fish and game fizzing bass and they say it doesnt matter the damage is done to the brain.

The fish was fizzed under water, so when the air is released, it is displaced with water instead of changing the volume of the air bladder. The water in the air bladder causes the fish to sink. I don't know if this is permanent, or fatal, but it is definitely not good for the fish. You should fizz in the air using the same process.
@clausdaboss32202 жыл бұрын
Water doesn't enter it, the changing in pressure pushes only the air out.

What about when they need the buoyancy and can’t get it because their swim bladder has been ruptured ? Not hating - genuinely curious. Because he looks like he couldn’t swim up to hunt if he wanted to.
@bassresource3 жыл бұрын
The reason he "sunk" is because the air was just removed - meaning there's little air left in the bladder. It was removed because of the needle. Once removed, the air no longer leaks, and this resumes normal activity.

Ok thanks I wish I knew this trick from back in the day when a girl I took for her fist day of ever fishing caught a 11.05 bass she had to get it mounted there was no way I'd put her back in the water with that happing to her.
