50 ft! Ive never caught that deep. Most of my local lakes are shallower than that. I have a few coastal lakes near by that i want to practise on. Good video. Never thought about the released fish spooking the group. Thanks

Team Jesus Outdoors You have to keep’em out of the lake longer but it’s better for the fish.

In cold water, they can last a long time in the live well.
@BassGeek6 жыл бұрын
Team Jesus Outdoors Yeah it’s much easier on’em. During the summer you have to keep that water temp down

Love your videos on catching deep smallmouth! That said I have never heard a biologist recommend anything but fizzing or immediate release. Clips may get them to weigh in but the fish is dead from internal damage.
@BassGeek6 жыл бұрын
I know everyone has their opinions on this subject. I use both fin clips and fizzing. I think bass are resilient fish. Some prefer to fizz others prefer alternative methods like fin clips. Personally I use both. It's not that the air bladder swelling causes damage. The air bladder has plenty of room to expand. It's when the air bladder puts pressure on other organs over long periods of time, combined with the exhaustion of bass trying to upright it's self in the live well, that kills fish. By putting treatment in the live well to calm the fish and adding fin clips you give the fish time to naturally expel the gas with less risk of infection and incorrect fizzing procedure. To prove that fish can make it to the weigh in without EVER being fizzed and still released healthy watch this Bassmaster video with Fisheries Biologist and NY Conservation Director Barb Elliott: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b6iUdYB_gZWVbKc I've shown FLW people how to fizz and know those fish survive after spending the day in a live well so internal damage is an over all myth.

I’m familiar with the video you linked. In it she states that fish cannot expel or “burp” out air naturally. She also talks about using a reamer when fizzing from the side, that is a very important part and I think gives a lot of people trouble. I have very good luck fizzing thru fish’s mouth. At any rate thanks for talking about barotrauma and it’s importance. It bothers me seeing suffering fish on televised professional tournaments. Seems the pros have a flippant attitude about the fish.

That's a way better than poking a hole in them or do you still have to poke a hole in them to let the air out? And whilst I've got your attention what do you know about a fish finder for the bank fisherman? Thanks for showing us this video, tight lines.
@BassGeek6 жыл бұрын
codfishing180 You Don’t it you have to let the fish sit in the live well for a while. If it comes time to release the and you take the clips off but they still go belly up. You will have to poke’em. Most of the time within an hour however they are good to go. The deeper is really the best out there. It uses your smart phone and even has a mapping function.

Does this really work putting clips onthe fish too funny
@BassGeek2 жыл бұрын
Yes it does. It’s really the safest way to get fish caught from deep water to re-pressurize.

Sorry but these do not actually work. The fish being upright does nothing to alleviate barotrauma.
@BassGeek2 жыл бұрын
Your wrong! Used them for years they work you have to have live well treatment.
@Honks342 жыл бұрын
Actually I’m not. Please enlighten me on how a fin clip decompresses a swimbladder.
