FJ Cruiser Side Mirror LED Upgrade Install

Thanks for the vid! I didn't have any trouble thanks to your video, no broken tabs, or cracked mirror. I had the FJ in for a repair at the dealer a little while ago, and I asked them to also replace the bulbs in the mirrors, and they didn't do it. On my work order it said mechanic didn't want to break mirror, so he did not do the repair. Can you believe that? a Toyota certified mechanic would not do this repair!!

Awesome, I’m glad this video helped. That is pretty crazy that a Toyota mechanic wouldn’t be willing to do the job. I guess they break more often than I realized. There’s been people commenting on here saying they broke theirs as well. One guy tried using a screwdriver to remove his mirror though so I’m not surprised with that one haha. Thank you!: 2 weeks later update: I want to caution everyone to put tape on the mirror before you try to remove it even if you take it off the wrong way this is not as easy as it looks mine were very hard to get out I cracked the driver side mirror and cut my hand & when I did the passenger side I put an x with some packing tape on the mirror it was just as hard to get out but it did not crack the mirror I ordered a new one for the driver side and when I get it I'm going to put some tape on it again before I install it I hope this helps someone

6000K is a measurement of color temperature (frequency of the wavelength) not how bright it is. Brightness is commonly measured by lumens.

dig inside there and get the blueish defuser out and the will be much brighter..

@@JoshuaAMG if you look inside the bulb socket there is a rubbish type of defuser, if it has not been removed already. if it is still there it can be a pain to remove. A long small metal hook like used by a dentist and needle nose pliers can get it done or a long thin flat head screw driver used to peel the edge and pliers to remove. its like a rubbish foil thing and very irritating. once it is removed the markers are much brighter... There is a vid here on the tube somewhere where the guy removes it

tried to install some aftermarket tail light assemblies and the turn signal has a hyper flash. how do i fix that??

Wondering what purpose those lights actually have? I mean if they were connecting to the turn signals, that would make sense. But just an "on" light - just for looks?

hagakuru if you look at the front of the FJ the headlights are more towards the center of the vehicle so at night time it gives the appearance that the truck is more narrow than it actually is. I believe the lights on the mirrors aren’t for visibility but actually for other drivers on the road to see that your truck is pretty wide. It’s just a safety thing, or at least that’s what I think haha.

Kendall Phillips someone commented saying there’s a blue diffuser in there that you can pull out to make it look brighter. Honestly I think these lights are a safety thing so oncoming traffic can see how wide the truck is since the headlights are kind of narrow together in the front. It doesn’t really give you more visibility changing the bulbs, just makes them look brighter and a better look in my opinion. Thanks for the comments.

The 6000k is not how bright it is. It represents the color temperature of the light in kelvin (k). 3500k is neutral white, anything lower is considered warm (red). Anything higher is considered colder (blue). 6000k is on the blue side, in the range of daylight.

Geoffrey Wagner kzbin.info/www/bejne/kIqVhqSYibprqck In this video Miranda and I remove them to paint them blue. I think at around 5 minutes is when we take them out, it was pretty easy. You don’t have to remove the door panels to remove them, we just have them off for removing the mirrors.

Apparently, using a heat gun or blow dryer to warm the tabs up helps to keep them from breaking. Or so the forums say...

Do the screwdriver trick. It worked better for me the second go around. You stick a flathead up from the bottom until you get it behind the tabs (you can see it happening if you get your eye around the space) and then twist the screw driver and the tab will pop right off. do this for the bottom tabs and then the others should come off fairly easy now that you have more room for your fingers.

Well you used to be able to find them in parts stores but everything has been a bit scarce since the pandemic. They are nice though cause they have a grippy texture on them. They’re called “Astro Grip” nitrile disposable gloves. If you google them you can order some.

cptsanity123 did your mirror have those tabs that hook under at the top or was it different? That’s the only reason I pop it loose from the bottom instead of the sides so those don’t break. That’s crazy your mirror cracked though. I’m sorry to hear that.

Well I used brake clean to wipe under where the seal was and it’s bad for your paint so it’s really not the best thing to use haha, I wasn’t so concerned cause we knew we were going to vinyl wrapped the whole vehicle anyways. Also some people commented that they broke their glass when removing, one person said he tried getting it off with a screwdriver so you just have to be careful when removing. It should come off by hand like you see me do in the video. I guess those might be the thumbs down haha. Hope you have no issues with your replacement.
