A tip. instead of fighting the gaskets. Use a product called "Indian head shellac". it is used to glue the gasket to the cover or pan so that is won't move around when installing it. and it is usually a good idea to put a little dab of silicone at the joint where the flat part of the oil pan gasket meets the front and rear pieces. Great build. still can't get over the razor blade. but it is getting there. and looking good doing it.

Other than the bit of RTV on the joints you didn’t use sealant anywhere else on the gasket. Do you have any oil leaks?
@Jerod_Helt2 жыл бұрын
I don’t like using sealant unless it’s absolutely necessary. Gaskets are designed to create a seal, I like to let them do their job. And no it doesn’t leak any oil.

Hey, looks great!! You have to be pumped up. A couple of observations and a question... First the question, where did you find a new/rebuilt oil pump for a 1F? While watching assembly, I noticed that around 6:54 you put the oil pump baffle on and it looks like you just tightened the nut with your fingers? It looks like there was a cut in the filming - hoping you tightened it with a wrench then. Did you need to torque the oil pump bolts? Also, when you put the timing cover on, you should put all the bolts in it and finger tighten it so the cover is still able to 'move around' and that crankshaft pulley seal can self-center the timing cover when you install the crank pulley. It probably would not hurt to loosen all the timing cover bolts just enough where the cover can move freely, do a couple crankshaft rotations then tighten the timing cover back up. Some folks will put a tiny skim coat of silicone sealer to the inside bore of the crank pulley especially around the key way to keep oil from seeping, but I never do that.

Good eye as always! Yes I noticed some of those things as I was watching the video back. I did tighten the nut for the oil screen but cut the footage a little too soon, so you don't see it. I was also thinking, while watching it back, that it would have been a good idea to install the pulley before tightening those bolts. I will go back and loosen them to let the seal center. I got the rebuilt oil pump from Spector Off Road.

@@Jerod_Helt Wow, just checked SOR and they want some major ca$h for a rebuilt oil pump. But, like my grandfather used to say, "It's cheaper where there's none"

joe sixpack yeah I was shocked too. That price does include a core charge

I thought the same about the oil screen being finger tight! was worried that would soon work loose and foul something important....

The pistons are ITM. So is the new CAM and most of the new bearings👍

@@Jerod_Helt Awesome! i was think Wisco for mine. I just pulled my motor a few days ago. See the video on my channel. But trying to get a good baseline from the community on how i should build it. I was it to have a little pep but dont want to destroy the motor in the process. suggestion are welcome as well. Keep up the good work

I know this might be sacrilege but for the convenience and parts availability, and cost, why not drop a Chevy 235 into it?
@joesixpack75514 жыл бұрын
...also, what Make/model/year was that crank pulley for? I went back and checked your 'First Start' video and it looks like you may run into clearance issues with the fan with that pulley? Not sure if you might end up with a spacer and longer bolts? It is hard to tell as everything is black and I'm not sure if you already had the AC crank pulley on when you fired it up back then. It looks tight with the fan blades - maybe just the angle or my old eyes - lol. I'm planning to do A/C on my truck as well...
@Jerod_Helt4 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure the year and model of the new pulley. I found it on eBay after months of looking. Most pulleys I found had a smaller outer groove for a narrow belt. I did have the added pulley for the AC on when it ran last. However, I did space the fan out last time by putting some lug nuts behind it. So this time I will probably make some more permanent spacers.
