I love how this album combines the ancient with the futuristic. There's her classical tone with the traditional baroque instruments, and then the cutting edge electronic beats. So sick

This album, especially Sad Day has soooo much influence from Kate Bush (a legend in the world of Artpop and British music) I really recommend getting into her music. The album Hounds of Love is a great place to start.

I recommend you listen to Fka twig earlier works (and yes, some are about her relationship with Pattison as well but they are .... happier. Which makes a great contrast to Madgalene). Also, her genre is not clearly defined, but it's mostly classified as art pop. Fun fact: before she face revealed, most of the critics was very confused about what genre she was part of, bc she has like this classical training and use of music, while being very pop, edm and stuff. But once she did face reveal and the British critic discovered she was black, she was put in the r'n'b category, despite her music not being that rnb, she was pissed. Now it's more or less fixed and she is considered art pop, though she genre bend a lot still.

Thank you for noticing the amazingness of daybed. No one pay attention to that masterpiece and it just hurts me. I said this before and now saying again, Daybed is not just an ordinary song, it's an experience. First time I've listened Daybed, I was in a bus, I remember I was just blown away, I felt the atmosphere that song creates.

Loved your reaction and the fact that you loved "daybed", cause it seems to be the least favorite in every review! Such a distrubing, melancholic feeling to it... and the album in general! Btw, I think you might love "Honeymoon" by Lana del Rey, I think it's a very similar project to this one: very cinematic, atmospheric, really haunting and melancholical... kind' creepy too and great production!

This album is just brilliant. I really wish more people would discover and realize the the talent of this women. I listen to this on autoplay over and over and over and it never disappoints. There is just so much going on in this body of work and I get the feels and discover something different every time I hear it. The last time time something gave me this much emotion was Damien Rice's album "O" and that was 2008. I can't say enough about this piece of work. She is a true multi-dimensional artist who is not afraid to take risks and I appreciate that.
@yuh45663 жыл бұрын
I'm so happy you got to experience this album!!! it's truly amazing. one layer that really deepened my appreciation for this piece was understanding the way twigs uses Magdelene's story to comment on womanhood and her own public perception. Mary Magdelene was an extremely powerful figure, she was a healer, a doctor, and a devout follower of Jesus. But over time this perception of Magdelene was completely erased and replaced by a rumor that she was actually a wicked sinner and a prostitute. Her story highlights the way women are misconstrued and demonized by society. By naming this album Magdelene, Twigs sort of relates her experience in the public eye with Magdelene's, saying she feels her narrative was completely corrupted by the media. When she says "come just a little bit closer to me" in the song Mary Magdelene, alongside the industrial and medieval instrumental, I always feel like I am in an extravagant palace that looks a certain way on the outside, but twigs is calling me down into the chambers to reveal the true secrets hidden underneath. this is a lot but listening to this again inspired me to type all this lol. you should also react to her first album lp1 btw

I’mma need a reaction to Fiona Apple’s Fetch The Bolt Cutters. While I feel something from Bjork (especially Homogenic) would hit the spot for you. She really is the queen of alt-electronic-pop. A reaction to Kate Bush’s Hounds Of Love or The Dreaming would be nice as well. FKA is clearly very influenced by Bjork and Kate Bush.

I do wish you would pause the songs less and give yourself more time to experience the song. Even if that means clipping parts of the song out to stay under YT's radar.
