Hi thanks for saying that. yeah the frequency of tests isn't that high but I'm striving to do real stuff in the bush to really get to see if these things perform as I expect them to. As you can imagine it's a lot more time consuming than desk top reviews LOL!

Hi thanks! yes I think it could be possible using the two Molle loops on the back of the scabbard. I'll have to try it but just looking at it I put a spare Dura flex buckle into the existing one and I reckon without too much effort a simple belt could be rigged up. Yeah September probable still some mushrooms, I guess dependent upon hw much rain in where you will be in Italy. I love picking the Porcini ! We dried about 4Kgs last week couldn't eat all of them so just had to dry the rest.

Good stuff! The blade is basically the same as another Fox, the Hossom Retribution Scout. By the way, I'd love to see a review and test of this one. A comparison of the two, with regards to how comfortable their handles are, would be absolutely great.
@BushCampingTools

Hi, mmmm, I'm not totally convinced it is similar, the HRS has more of a tanto-ish front end but it may be the angle i'm looking at it from. Anyway comment much appreciated! I think these moulded grips are fairly comfy but what I like is the shock absorption value from the use of such polymers.
@diderichlangmannen
@diderichlangmannen 5 жыл бұрын
No, it‘s by far not the same blade. They have completely different styles and also the sizes are different. But for me the Retribution Scout seems to be a very nice knife. It looks like something that could be more interesting than 99% of the last models from all the different knife companies.

@@diderichlangmannen Yes mate, I think we established that. That would be 99% of the makers, that you're aware of. Not all. No one knows all makers. You're right however, about the Scout being plenty interesting.

Hi there! Thank you for your great recommendation! Have seen many your videos and bought many fox knives too. Among them I love the rimor most. Could you please share your opinion on which fox knives is the best for bushcraft?
@BushCampingTools
@BushCampingTools 2 жыл бұрын
I think the Rimor is one of my favourites for many reasons but I also like my Trapper model too. The Rimor is probably more robust? Maybe maybe not and better for hunting due to the belly (if you had to use it for that). The scabbard is better for the Trapper though. I guess it depends upon what one expects from "bushcraft" and what environment one is going to be working in as to the choice of knife.
@ericchiang1368

@@BushCampingTools Thank you! I feel Trapper is amazing too. :) However, when mentioning recent years new knives, now I turned to looking for Lionsteel... The Fox new products seem too expensive(a small folding one can be more expensive than rimor) and not practical?

I'm looking at getting either this or the fox bushman. My question is does this have a sharpened spine suitable for striking ferro rods and other bushcraft tasks like the bushman
@BushCampingTools
@BushCampingTools 4 жыл бұрын
Hi there, the Bushman is good knife too. You can strike a steel against the gimping on this model, although the edges are slightly more rounded than say the Parus (as a similar sized knife). The Rimor is not as "bushcrafty' as the Bushman from that perspective.

It was a present from my mum. Normally I'm wearing a solar powered Diver's watch but the bezel died on me so not very useful for diving anymore although it still works fine as in time keeping. Maybe I might start reviewing some diving watches soon???

Hi, Thanks for the review Since you have already reviewed other FOX knives... Can you advise which one you think is the more suitable for "survival" Rimor, Trapper, Combat Jungle ? Any rationale welcome Thanks !
@BushCampingTools
@BushCampingTools 4 жыл бұрын
Hi there, and thanks for watching and commenting. If your definition of survival is the following: left on a uninhabited island, the only water sources, you have to dig for and it's ever so slightly brackish- but safe to drink, you only have fishing gear-lures only, two dive masks one set of fins, a quality tent and 25L of bottled water. The boat is supposed t come and collect you after 3 days. You have enough food with you for 2 days, it's only a few kms swim back to the mainland, besides strong currents, there are plenty of sharks. In that situation I actually had a machete and one multitool. There was some rudimentary crop of cassava on the island for stranded fishermen- some of it was ripe/developed enough to cook and eat. Any of those knives would suffice but as I illustrate it really depends upon what you mean by survival. The combat jungle would be better in the scenario I presented than the other too due to the blade being slightly thinner and easier to deal with preparing fish and hard root vegetables. If you would like to read the real life story behind the above i welcome you to my blog article: hardcorecampingtools.blogspot.com/2015/11/komodo-island-photo-by-author.html

hello, congratulations for the video. I'd like your opinion. Is rimor or combat jungle better for use and robustness? thanks a lot
@BushCampingTools
@BushCampingTools 5 жыл бұрын
Hi thanks! The Rimor I believe would probably fare better if used in a constantly wet environment as the grip is basically all weather being made out of FRN. The Combat Jungle (a superb knife BTW-I always wanted one LOL) has a milled out tang and micarta scales and as such would need to be pulled apart after submersion for cleaning and drying, especially if used around salt water. The FRN grip on the Rimor is so tight fitting leaves little chance for water ingression and there are really no any parts of the asymmetric tang to hold water. I think they are both pretty "robust" knives. Maybe the Combat Jungle would/is better at cutting up meat, due to it's lateral profile. The combat Jungle has a more versatile scabbard with the external pocket (I keep a fire steel and folder in that pocket). Both are good products, the Combat Jungle has more "style" than the Rimor, the latter which looks more kind of tactical but in function if one wants to beat the blade with a wooden baton, then the Rimor has a wide flat surface as apposed to the slightly rounded spine of the Combat Jungle. The Combat jungle if used for hunting is less likely to pierce a skin due to the tip being more rounded. I believe the Combat Jungle is actually a Molletta design from way back. The Rimor has been designed by the Fox knives design team.Hope that sort of helps.

Compared to the tracker sniper fkmd do you think is an evolution? Better or worse?
@BushCampingTools
@BushCampingTools 4 жыл бұрын
Evolution for better if using both knives for outdoors work, definitely. In reality the Trakker sniper is not really useful for outdoors work. It is really a knife suited to military tasks. That being said, it can be used but will never be as good as the Rimor. This has to be one of their best outdoor/survival models for sure.

This or Extrema Ratio DMP?
@BushCampingTools
@BushCampingTools 2 ай бұрын
Both have their virtues. However, I really like the Rimor a lot. It is a very much lessor known balde i believe but one which really rocks. The DMP though is really designed for the soldier. Of course it can be used for outdoor work. But two different blade shapes, one recurved and deep belly section, the other a simple drop point so hard to compare. I think FKMD/FOX's Parus and Rimor are top dollar for the outdoors persons.

What grind is on the blade
@BushCampingTools
@BushCampingTools 5 жыл бұрын
Hi the edge has a standard angled bevel and the actual blade grind is that of a scandi as the line from the top of the bevel only goes to 12mm before this flattens to the spine. Or I guess I could say drop a line perpendicular from the spine 12mm, then from that point it angles to the start of the edfe bevel. The geometry is is such that towards the tip, say midway under the swedge, the blade thickens again. This allows a good weight distribution for chopping/swinging. Running one's fingers along the blade you can feel the thickness change (increase slightly). So despite the swedge decreasing the top thickness, the midpoint is thick. I might have to publish some more detailed pictures of the actual design and how I interpret it in another blog. Hope that kind of helps and is not too confusing. I did ask them for a schematic but I don't think they will supply me with one, probably for confidentiality/copying reasons. Maybe i will make a solid model and show the cross sections of the blade. It is an interesting design and I believe well-thought out.

Hey, have you ever tried a pinky lanyard? It's a small paracord lanyard that allows just enough room for your pinky finger to fit in allowing extra chopping leverage on small fixed blades like the Esee 4. It actually works really well if that's the only knife you have with you. Great video!
