i did a techno remix of "our God is an awsome God" and used a beat instead of vocals on a sytrus instrument, it turned out really neat for an opening synth. i havent fully understood Vocoder though until i saw this. Thanx for the vid!

If it is just clarity of the voice format it is probably more your speakers than the sound card. Vocoders are VERY touchy with the carrier used, as he said. Just keep trying. The best way to learn synths is to try what ever you can think of.

I wanna record me singing a song, with my voice layered with Vocodex sound effects ( like saw, machine 2, organ etc). But how can I do this? I recorded a song earlier, and masked it with Vocodex noises. I turned off FL studio, and when I went back to the song, it now played, but it played without the Vocodex sounds. How can I fix this so the song will always play with whatever version of Vocodex sounds i had added to the song?????

I dont know why, but when i sets everything my voice doesnt goes on the left channel (even if a i put the whole PAN [panorama, if a sounds goes on the right or the left channel] on the left)

Thanks a ton, this rocks. Just a note - for many people, they might not be able to use ASIO4ALL while watching this video. I think it has to do with ASIO4ALL wanting exclusive access to the sound driver. I personally got around this by recording my voice to WAV and then just using that WAV instead of live recording, which meant I could use my standard sound driver instead. Thanks again NFX!!

And I know how to loop a sound. but how can you loop one sound, then say loop 5 more sounds, and have those sounds playing in the background as I start singing. And all the while I`m recording, with my voice playing through Vocodex. HOW CAN i DO THIS????

so what do you need to make your voice sound like t-pain, NB Ridaz, or Roger Troutman? I Gotta Keyboard, but have no damn clue how to set it up for the Vocoder. And my Sound card won't let me hear what i'm saying anyway, so i have to insert my "acapella" or what i want to say. I Have a Sony Vaio and FL Studio 7 XXL, and i a newb. This Vocoder seems like a basic one. so anybody have any clue how to get one, and hook it up to ACID Pro 6 or something. a little help will be much appreciated.

Question: How can i hear my voccoded voice live while i speak in my microphone? I can't seem to be able to hear what i say in my mic and use the sounds heard by the PC live on FLS set on "Line IN" from my speakers at the same time like in this video. If it is only set to line out, i need to pre-record in order to modify my voice. Anyone got an answer please?

I'm using the Fast Track, but the vox and carrier are not panning to left or right instead are playing in both sides (stereo). I have selected Line 1 Fast Track mono as my input and have tried the stereo input as well. Can anyone help me on this? Thank ya mun.

3. Go to the mixer then doesnt matter wat channel just put any mic then like little window will pop up down on the corner and it going to say some thing about asio4all ok now dont click on the window click the box under the window where the window came from ok then a box will pop up there willl be the the mic u have now there is going to be a power buttton turn it on and then click the + sign and turn on everything that was turned off on the mic u have connected :) hope it worked :)

Homegrown tutorials such as this one would be improved tremendously if they were steamlined. Technical textbooks can have the same problem... you have to wade through and mentally edit-out lots of sidetracks: Please decide what the point is and then don't drift from it at all. It makes for far less rambling presentation, and sharpens the whole experience of listening and learning.

can you make one on how to make your vocoder set up sound like vocodex? because i tried a very similar set up with vocoder and id didnt sound good so i experimented and set up a vocodex in a 4th channel and sent vocoder straight to vocodex and used a saw and it sounded how you would imagin it should sound? or did i do something wrong...just sounded like my voice with a synth over it through the vocoder. but thanks for the help

Heh meh i am trying to learn some stuff from your tutorials about fl studio. I have started making a dnb track.But my knowledge about the program isn't efficient enough to produce the sound that i want plus make the changes that i want etc.I have seen all your tutorials tried some shit but they aren't working maybe i am just dumb or something. The explanation I gave you there was obviously not for the "playlist" ! I just thought it would be a lot easier to explain it through the older way people would edit in fl studio. Most of what Ive learned, I learned through watching a LOT of tutorials through YOu Tube. Ive have some saved in my favourites! I actually may start doing some more tutorials for beginners as Fl studio can be a lot of fun but frustrating for the beginner who just needs straight answers!

Okay, quick answer for you would be this. Go to your main synth on your channel window. Now right click your volume know. At this point you will get a sub menu...click edit events. Now, you should see a volume edit window for that synth with a paint brush for a cursur. "Right click on the bottom left corner to start a ramp of volume in pink . Make it as gradual as you want. Let me know how you make out.

If Your Havin' Problems With Your Mic Still, Un-Highlight All Of Them And Highlight The Mic Itself Only. Test It Out First If It's Not Gettin' Any Sound From It.. If It's Still Recording What Ur Saying.. Then Go to Audio Settings.. Click On The Down Arrow That's On The Right Side Of The Screen. Click On Primary Sound, Then The Sound Should Work Now.. Even The Mic. That's How I Solved My Mic Problem..

I love all your tube vids thay have got me realy doing way more with FL. My question is that im sadly using a web cam mic for the vocoder. Its all i have at the time being.I followed everything and it works! Bd one thing that is messed up is that i cant hear myself. I think its cuz of the USB mic.ASIO is on and its picking up my vocals but i cant hear anything. Not even anything on FL it shuts the sound off for some odd reasion.

hello, i've spent ALL night trying to figure out how I can sing while my music is playing, so i know what i am singing to, i have done it before! However i cannot do it again i don't know why! when i select the ASIO4ALL the mixer recognizes my mic but there is no sound/ output to my speakers. I have done it before, please somebody! Speakers are connected and DO work, do i have to do something through edison? DAMN thx

I could see that when you played something, or talked, the bars showing how loud that was did not get very high. How do you manage to do this but still have enough amplitude to make a song? My sounds almost always peak, or close to peaking, and I do not get any loudness at all. When I talk in my mic, I have to scream to get a little volume. The volume is not too loud even at a peak. What can I do?

It's either under the Options or Tools there is an option labeled Audio Settings click on that. Now when you get there you will see output, most likely it will be your what your computer uses, go down and click Asio. If you see this now you should be able to see more then none on your input section. Your output will show other options as well you will have to use whatever jack your speakers are running to.

@outphase78 i need help. i did everything on the video. i don't have the "rave lead" sound, so i put it on default. i put the vocals and the carrier to the vocoder. I panned the vocal to the left and carrier to the right. when i play some notes on the piano, it doesn't work. I check the mixer and everytthing, but it still didn't work. please help.

Use your brains. If you don't like the length of the video, skip through to the parts you want to see. If you don't know the basics, watch his other videos or find out before trying to learn to use a vocoder. Personally I think it's a really good tutorial and has helped me a lot. He's put these vids up for free so be fucking grateful.

Is it possible to get a clean sounding vocode where it's the same sounding vocals, just you can change the pitch of it? Why I ask this is I get ideas on vocals that I can harmonize a second version of the vocals in behind the vocals themselves, but I don't know how you can get a clean sounding vocal when Vocoding. Is it possible or do I need something like an Autotuner?

great tutorial! i got a problem anyways. i'm using fl studio 8 and even though routed the voice and carrier channels to the vocoder channel, i got the mic and carrier signals on my master channel, so i don't hear the vocoder working, because it is played as the same time as the raw signals, which actually sucks. any suggestions?

if it want playt the keys but it shows the key pressing then it probably means you hit the leter S or sometyhing while in the MIXER i'm not sure if it is s but there is a certain key thaty when youy hit it while the mixer is up it cuts off the channels in the mixer, whic\h is stupid in my opinion. try thart

I have downloaded the Asio Drivers, it's called Asio4All, but when I open the settings, It shows the Bush Face`s and there is In and out, The out Channel it's red colored and it shows as "not connected" when I get into Fruityloop in Audio there is "Asio device", but is unavaliable Is anything I'm doing wrong? thanks...

Okay, I gave up on the mic input thing and just did a sample. However, I have another problem that's pissing me off. When I pan the synth/vocals, they do not come out as stereo. Yes, they are feeding only into the vocoder, but for some reason when I play them they're still panned solely to the left/right. WHY?

But see...the problem im having is...wat if you already have vocals in wav form?..you alter them..and then bounce them back to a folder. NOW u cant use them with a track..because now they too slow...no matter HOW hard yu try to fit them in. Has anybody ever had this problem??? Please help.

So it works like yours but I get a hideous high pitch squeal towards the end of each word. Its not in the vocal or the carrier alone. I have tried different vocal and carrier. Sounds almost like when a microphone squeals at a live show. Any suggestions what this could be from?

i got my vocoder working but my issue is just a little bit of my voice is still running through i want to eliminate that extra voice and oonly have my voice go through the vocoder. also if i wanted to Skype is there a way to use this to talk on skype with different voices?

Funny that you would mention writing sentences properly when your first one should have a question mark at the end, and "Damn." is not a sentence. Also, if you would have taken the second S out when you wrote sounds, you would have had one sentence that made sense.

Yeah, I found out. But after I had managed to make the Vocoder work, jammed around a bit, but when I changed the soundcard driver back to normal again (from ASIO4All) I found out that left and right channel was switched. Really annoying when you are playing BF-Heroes...

Okay, first, put your beats on soundclick (or another similar website) And follow the instructions. Leasing means they pay to kind of 'rent' the beat for a song on a mixtape or album, but full exclusive rights means they can use it as many times as they want.

You need to install an ASIO driver, then hit F10 in FL and select it under the "Audio" tab. Note that if you're using a sound card built in to your motherboard there's a good chance that you won't be able to hear any sound output, which would mean you'll need to shell out for a better card.

I had the same problem myself,I think that there is something with the ASIO shit. I had to use ASIO output and my ordinary sound as input which created a second and a half delay on my mic.. I know u might think that I'm stupid cause of how i made it, but it's working for me now!

I have a problem. To use the ANALOG MIX (L/R) I need to switch from my Audigy drivers to ASIO 24/96 [B400]. But then I don't hear myself or anything else (i.e. synths, samples etc). Could someone help me with that? I tried everything and almost smashed my shit because it gave me a headache. :D

@stevenmcl1 sounds like you're going for more of an octave shifter. There's a free single wav program you can use to do this, called Audio Station. Not the best program in the world, but it has some handy stuff. I think you can find it on download.com

SHit , it took me a while but the stupid mistake I was making over and over was "left clicking" the arrow to route the channels. In this tutorial you cant see the dialogue box that comes up when you right click it! Its always the little things!!!

I have everything picking up right, my sound is coming from my speakers. I routed to vocoder, panned. Everything seems fine, when i turn down the 1st two bars in bring up wet it doesnt make the conversion into the robotic voice. Any ideas?

you can press CTRL-drag on the black line above where the timeline is, then you get a red line that marks where the loop will end and start. Otherwise it will go back, for all I know that is. I'm also new to this but I found that out.
